Did mountain slope change their size? My shell A maximum internal length is about 262mm.

Sizing up always ends in disaster I reckon. 2 shell sizes up is pretty much guaranteed to not work imo.
Given what he said that he has a VERY high instep, i really suggest up 1 size from his current boots. Yes, usually, up size is disaster, but not for his special case.
Also mind that 951 is in 1.5cm increment. If david has 2 size to choose from, choose the bigger imo.

Cool - good info all. Thank you.
I have a size 10.5 foot, narrow heel, skinny calves, fairly normal fore-foot and a VERY high instep. The high instep is a problem in most any foot wear I want to buy. The Deeluxe shell accommodates the instep fairly well with minor mods. The instep is so high that I can't slip my foot into a traditional overlap ski boot shell with the liner removed. Slip on casual shoes won't work because I literally can't get my feet in them. You get the idea.
I used the Deeluxe 325T's with the stiffest tongues and I would not want them to be any softer and feel like a bit stiffer would be good. So the SB will work but I wish I had a bit better heel hold with less cranking of the buckles to get it.
I've tried the Deeluxe 700 series and they did not even come close to working with my foot. I spent 15 minutes in them in my living room before putting them back in the box and returning them.
Based on the above is it worth buying some MS boots to try on with the idea of returning them if they don't fit well or would it be a waste of time?
dave
If thing is working now, it is not worth to try 951 (though it is good) because you have high instep. 951 is very tight on the instep. If you still want to buy, i highly suggest you buy one or two size up.
Photo of tongue shown. However, you can put your foot in the boots , doesnt mean it fit you. Imo, 1 or 2 size up.

I use 951 just because they offer the smallest hardboot shell AFAIK and as far as i can try on. They are too stiff to my taste and weight. Perhaps that's what WC racer needed. They are not cheap but not unaffordable at all.

So you mean that difference between internal length ie mondo size and external length ie sole length is 1mm ?
Yes, I think MS951 Shell B may even have minus difference (-1mm etc). Here is the length of D425 26 mondo. Just add 1cm for 27 mondo.
Perhaps photo is better. If you visualize the boots in 3 dimensional, hope it make sense.
I use straw tube to measure all boots I have to get their internal length. Of course, there is measurement error. Therefore, I measure 3 times and take the average.
I have internal lengths of D700, D425 , MS951, Head Strata Pro, as well other ski boots. Atomic (the ski boots brand) once publish their internal length before 2016. I get a deeper understanding of boot fitting then.

Thank you for your good idea. I have new idea to ask my wife to let me buy new gear.

27 mondo external size is that, not internal one. With those feet size i would take 27 size one
Please let me clarify. For d425 mondo 27, the boot internal length is 294mm and external length (so called the boot sole length, BSL) is 295mm. The internal length is for boot fitting. External length is for binding fitting.
Wonton has different foot length. Fit should be done to the smallest foot or the average of both feet, definitely not the big one. Boot shell can be punch if a little small, liner can be cut a little but, but nothing could be done to a too big shell.
Havent said that, boot fitting is difficult. One finger or barely one finger shell fit is the rule of thumb.
I have gathered all those boot fitting experiences for years because i live in a city without snow and boot fitter.

D425 27 internal length is 294mm, which is likely a size too big.
No know knows the exact answer. Buying boots online is always a gamble. But 26 is a better bet imo.
Just to remind to change the cant adjustment plastic of deeluxe before it is too late. Search my post and you will find it.

@daveothanks for your reply. No, because my 951 flex like a feather without tongue. I just need a very soft tongue. I dont think 950 tongue is soft enough given they are the same structure.
I once wanted to custom mold a tongue by myself. But i did not bother to study the casting of pu. And the tongue geometry is complex.
I now have a spare new raichle 122 tongue which is kinda ok, it has Fulltilt-like groove (may need cut as well) but havent been on the snow this season due to covid.
I guess some touring boots tongue may be ok too.
My wife uses a 21 mondo atomic backland tongueless but will mod springs. I tried tongueless as well, but feeling unsecure, afraid of damaging the shell, water ingress issue and lack of the torsional stiffness.
Backland is my second choice,
1) it can ride tongueless
2) light weight
3) custom fit shell (951 fit me very well as well but ankle is little too large for me, non deal breaking issue)
4) size in 1cm increment
5) cheap
But it does not fit binding very well, kinda ok. I have not yet find a cheap pair to try and 951 is actually good enough imo.
I have not try UPZ, but its smallest shell seems to be larger than 951 shell A a little bit.
Zipfit is a game changer as well, worth every penny. I have two pairs (one thicker/one thinner) for me to ride till the end of my life and for cutting modification (not yet done)
I am quite obsessed with boots fitting. I told my skier friends, if i ski, i would buy one pair of ski boots from each brand. Just kidding.
Thank you 1xsculler.

@daveo it may surprise you - i do NOT use any spring with the "broken" tongues. (See photo)
The bottom spring is only for the purpose of keeping the heel lean angle, not for suspension. That spring does not compress at all.
it rides like this.

Our C-Shell accomodates mondo sizes 270-280 and D-Shell accomodates mondo sizes 280-295
MS951 shell C and D internal lengths are 292mm and 307mm respectively.
Great boots! I use shell A. Thank mountain slope people making these retro boots.
Even better if they offer tongue (which is 90% softer) for free carving, light weight people and extremecarving guys. Otherwise serious mod needs. Look how i cut my tongues. I am still finding way to cut more.

The internal lengths of 287 and 299 shell are 279mm and 292mm respectively.
299 shell is most likely too big, 287 shell shell is a few mm too small.

Me again , a year later with the UPZs. Not much time on them due to COVID but a handful of days. Orig Deeluxs are 28. New UPZs are 28.5 . I think after all those years the 28 were too small . First day out this year decided the thermofit in 28 are too small and back of my rear heel is in excruciating pain. Never had the heel pain in the Deeluxs but they also never felt great.Went back to the UPZ liners , heated them , put in all pads that came with them , added a heel wrap for rear and boots feel ok . Not slippers but not painful. I unbuckle on the lift .
Thinking about trying Intuition liners . Shell fit is 2 fingers . Anyone have a suggestion of what liners and volume to choose . I want a comfort fit , not performance fit .
The heel pain is the direct back of my heel and it is much less painful in the stock liners . But still there . ThanksIf your rear heel is pain, you are same as me. You need a shim in the shape of a butterfly, "reverse-U", or "C".
You can ask a bootfitter to help or figure out that shape by yourself.

Good idea!
I didn't carry a cable lock because my boards are always with me, including toilet time. And I don't eat lunch at all. 8 hours straight! If I am very hungry, I will find a restaurant in the middle of the mountain and put my board within my eyesight. I guess it would be difficult for a thief to steal an alpine board not wearing a pair of hard boots.
I guess the only way to steal my board is to break into my hotel room .

How can you manage to fit 272/268 feet in Shell A? Boot Punch?
I have 255 feet and feel quite tight with custom fit liner.

Nothing special on it, it is fun. It somehow personalized you board. On the other hand it can also make your board difficult to sell. No everybody has the same taste. Angry was only board I did not sell and I did not even bother with fully custom built Virus. Maybe I was hoping I will ride it again, but not sure. Too “big” board for my current condition.
On the other hand, one good thing about "difficult to sell" is that no one will bother to steal your lovely board. Thief only target for those big names, Kessler, Oxess, SG, F2.

Contra 166.5x21 in 12 SCR. This board is for steeper terrain (25-36 degree), in addition to my ECVC 168. I have asked Bruce for 10-15% softer and smaller SCR.
The graphic looks superbbbbbbbbb! (better in reality since my photo camera is quite poor) Best of the best!!!!! Thanks Bruce. I highly recommend the matt surface. Hope it can touch snow in 2021.

Laser sailing, tennis, slalom/LDP skateboard, some ping-pong, hikes with the dogs... And not to forget the ongoing house renos - excellent workout . I might even do a bit of fencing again, if I feel that my arm has fully recovered from a last season's riding accident.
No gym, weights, running, or any other meaningless structured workout, for me.
Can you please shed some light on slalom skateboard?
I use a surfskate to ride mellow downhill (1:20) as my summer training. But the speed is just too slow to mimic the feeling of alpine carving.

Let me join the party. My daughter designs the graphic and I manage to put things together.
Snowboard graphic is a bit tricky because one should consider the location of insert and binding which will cover some part of the graphic during riding, as well sidecut. Each graphic takes about a month of my spare time to do it.
The rainbow/people is the 1st board. The rabbit/watermelon didn't build. The black & white is the latest one which has arrived last Friday. Take some time to post it on board porn.

I learned:
How to modify my boots to allow better flexion between turns.
That I'm able to ride stiffer boards much more easily without the excessive ramp of my old boots forcing me onto the tail.
How to extend off my board in the turn rather than relying on the cuffs to support me.
That's interesting. What is your weight? and how to modify your boots?
I am 168cm/135lbs and use MS951. The tongue was cut and cracked into a spider web and I get rid of all spring. Then I barely flex the boots.

Backland has a "stiffer" tongue. https://shop.atomic.com/en/products/backland-hard-tongue-26-27-ae0000812.html
My wife use backland as well, with no tongue. She is just 45kg.

Replacing the defective original plastic cant part of Deeluxe boot with metal part is recommended.
Protect your ankle before facture!

U just cut these pads from EVA or leather or neoprene. Though officially, Sidas (and other manufacturer) sells these pads.

hardboot/ski boot fitting is a huge topics which I can talk non-stop for at least 3 hours. Keep it short, if in doubt, always buy a smaller shell than a bigger shell.

Agree with daveo, C shell is the minimum size you can fit. D shell is much bigger.
If C shell stock liner doesnt work, then go with zipfit.
In rare scenario (such as very high instep), you will need D shell
