  1. UPS quote to your zip code is about $108. I packed it in cardboard with some extra space on the edges for safety. If they pack it, another $80. Will you be in Boulder CO on May 9th?

I may have some time this week to try the cost from USPS if the line is not too long. It was a lot more than I thought it would be. Even if I trim the box down he said maybe around $80.

  2. Free board that I know nothing about. The base looks good with only one gouge deep enough to take Ptex but not close to through to the core. Edges are super clean. The waist measures 8 15/16" (you do the math)

Free plus shipping from zip 93923 by UPS.

    Did I mention Free?

  3. In mounting the F2 to a Burton (Flight Attendant) the screws were bottoming out before I could lock it down. I ran to Home Depot to try and figure out a good strategy to shim up so the screws would lock to the Tnuts that run in the Burton channel.

What you see under the binding is a scribe cut of some free LVP (luxury vinyl plank) flooring. Rubber sticky on the bottom and not too smooth on top. Did I mention Free samples? It is a little thicker than I wanted but serves well after 2 days of riding.

  4. At a shop (snowboard specific shop)to demo a board, located at a California resort that will go unnamed. I bring in my Coiler with Bombers to set up the bindings on the demo board...
    Employee 1: "Your monoski"

Me: "Are you serious? This is a snowboard shop right?"

Employee 2: "I used to race"

Me: "Cool, what kind of set up? Hard or soft boots?"

Employee 2: "Soft boots on that board with the squiggly name."

My conclusion: recreational marijuana laws should have been phased in slower.

  5. 2 days in so far. 156 Burton Flight Attendant with F2 RS bindings. On the second day I added the heel boost on the rear which feels great.

Overall, I am feeling guilty for not having to work so hard on turns. When I am on an alpine board I feel obligated to crank hard on every turn. Like every chair lift ride is for a purpose to dial something in tighter and tighter.

On the twin tip set up I could do some surf style sliding occasionally and just let it go. I was even able to navigate a half pipe (no air yet). Being over 60 yrs, there were only 2 competing at Nationals in the half pipe so I figure that if I can show up next year, I can podium.

  6. I am setting up a new pair of F2 RS intec. How much flex on the toe bail is too much? My other bindings are Bomber Trench diggers so they are pretty tightly locked. Should I crank this tighter? The bail is very tight against the shell but there is still a little room on top of the toe. I am concerned about pressuring the front of the shell too much. Link is a video of the movement.

    Thanks,

    Alan

P.S. Disregard the vintage Fat Bob, that is only a place holder for the binding adjustment.

  7. Hoping for a speedy recovery for Martin. Besides the lesson I had (maybe 15 plus years ago) being a great focused set of instructions (I taught skiing for 2 years, before snowboards had bindings, so my expectations regarding instructors are high), Martin was obviously a kind and caring person. Not many people can teach from that place of pure giving but he did.

  8. I was there earlier last week, 26th? It was good but this was just a few days after the last snow storm. More coming this weekend I think? We arrived around 12 so it was soft and stayed good until closing. The following day I headed to Northstar and it was O.K. but not until about 12. It was freezing enough to be bad in the morning even on a freshly groomed run.

  9. I have this (or similar older model) I got it to be able to wear glasses under the goggles without them being smashed into the bridge of my nose. For that it works great and you look like an Apollo 13 naut. The down side with this system is that the fit is not tight enough to keep out snow if it is snowing, blowing or you do something snowy towards your face.

  10. I did an experiment and demoed a Burton Step On set up. Photons with Step On and took out a Burton Custom.

The thought being if I want to be able to more easily go all mountain when I am with skiers (family/friends) then I would be more versatile and more likely to jump into the trees or down the steeps. Going down the steeps on my 172 Coiler is pretty challenging based on my suck level and being as old as time itself.

The board was fun and I was at Northstar (California) where they have groomed expert runs. It was much easier and I could lay it over and carve on the steeps but the soft boots were not making me happy. Granted they were demo's so they were not a perfect fit.

My current thought is to put my hard boot set up on a shorter twin tip instead of going full softie. I have TD3 step in and UPZ XC12 which are pretty forgiving. Does this sound like a bad idea for any reason? If I go with something like a Donek all mountain board (maybe Knapton Twin) will that be stiff enough with the TD3's? Is there another all mountain board that would be a good choice.

I am shrinking over time and currently close to 5'8" tall. The guy at the Burton shop was telling me the right size board for me was around a 58. I demoed a longer board (160?) and have never ridden anything as short as a 58.

Is this all a terrible idea? The soft boots just did not seem to give me what I wanted.
