  1. Looks like the bbq is not available this Sunday based on the number of staff on duty. We will probably be using it steady from 11am to about 230pm. Wish I could do something more but this new food policy has tripled our food load per day. To my knowledge, open bbq's are not allowed on the area or in the parking lot. Sorry guys....wish I could be of more assistance this year. My workload has changed tremendously.
  2. Let me see what I can do. It will be very busy that weekend but I think that is Super Bowl Sunday. Let me see what is going on and I will get back to guys. We have a new bbq policy and the bbq is jammed with people this year so I may not be able to offer the same as last year.
  3. My daughter is coming in from the navy at midnight Sun and I have to pick her up at the airport so I will be taking Sunday off. Hope you all have a great time.
  4. After the rain hit hard Saturday and Saturday night, we got about 3-4 inches of fresh snow. Amazingly, the riding was great. The new snow was heavier and stuck perfectly to the base resulting in some excellent carving conditions. Sorry you guys did not make it up but I would have satyed how too based on Saturdays weather.
  5. I am happy to see that the HB setup is being used by other patrollers. We have about 120 NSP volunteers here and I have about 60 on paid staff ( that includes Hill Maintenance and Mt Security staff) We have about 35% of our patrollers on snowboards however I am the only one on an alpine setup. Many of the new hire paid staff have been on boards ( 70%) so the mix is slowly increasing. I find patrolling on hardboots is very easy and is especially good for icy conditions although I would argue that two skis (edges) are better for the moments when your primary edge breaks loose on the steeps when running a loaded sled. I kinda thought there were more HB alpine parollers out there so keep in touch. Thanks for the article...you have been a true friend along with the rest of the group.
  6. Looks like we have about one more week left. There is plenty of snow and it has been windy and cool the last couple of mornings . The deciding factor in our closing date will be the ticket count. It has been very low during the week so I am expecting that we close in about a week however if the count goes up we will stay open day by day starting the 13th. I will let you know in case you are looking for one last run of the season.
  7. :eek:Found the board has started to delaminate along the side between the bindings soooooooo I have to cancel the sale of the board.
  8. Yep that was me and the dogs on KTLA morning show. Today Monday weather is overcast at 1:00pm with fog rolling in. Cold with temps at 34 degrees right now
  9. Rain caused a hard frozen surface this am but the sun is out and is expected to be good riding (springlike) by about 10:30 today. Hoping the weather on Sat doesn't foul up Sundays ride. Looks like it could be more of the same as last night. Snow depth is great and when it softens there is about a 2-3 hour window of decent riding each day.
  10. See you guys in the am. Riding in fun early morning and get the speed up to drive thru the heavy stuff later in the day.
  11. Sorry I have been able to ride with you guys but work issues have had me tied up for the last week. I will be around this weekend the 28th and the 1st in case anyone is up here. Snow is spring like but carveable and heavy
  12. They are stilll working on 18 from Running Springs..closed at this time. In addition, North Shore Drive (38) from the dam to Fawnskin is closed due to a house getting ready to slide down the hill from snow and debris slides. Plan on 38 thru Redlands or 18 from Lucerne. Check with http://socalmountains.com/roads.php for the latest on these roads. Riding is good but it is definetely warmer today. (48 degrees at 10:30)
  13. Heard the same about the Artic Circle. Sounds like maybe Friday night. They said they have about 30 slide areas to clear ...some as deep as 15-16 feet. On Frday thru Sunday I will be managing the patrol at Snow Summit so maybe I will see you guys then. After riding Weds as hard as I ever have, I am staying home on Thursday to do stuff around the house. Sorry I will miss you Terry and Aaron. PS I could see you guys from my house on chair 7 in the am...unmistakeable carving lines from 3/4 miles away
  14. AAron....is your dad coming up...if so let me know. My phone died today and I don't know if you called or not. I plan to be a Summit around 830 am so I can get a ticket for him at the patrol room. Just give me his name and I will write it up over the phone about 800am and you can pick it up at patrol.
  15. 330/18 should open sometime. Got about 3-4 inches today. Ridiing is great. Yesterday, I left at 800 am to get my wife at LAX and got back at 700 pm. Came up thru Lucerne. Roads are good now but you need chains. The reason I bought a Donek Metal is because of their two year warranty so no problems expected. Still like the 4WD for these soft days. I am working at Bear tomorrow and will have Thursday off and freeride that day. Will be on the Donek and trying to figure out how to tame that beast. Have to work on Friday and will not be off until the following Thursday and Friday I think. I rarely get stuck with 35x12.50x17 tires on a lifted 2002 4wd Yukon but it is the others that block the road with poor driving and decision making. As a town that depends on tourism, we do not like to see the roads close but it is nice to have more of the mountain to ride when that happens.
