  1. Should have asked him for a card, or whatever. Very nice gentleman, had two teenage boys with him, 16? one was his son. Also had two teenage girls, one was 14 and pretty sure was his daughter... His son raced well in the GS....
  2. Well, he was an east coast dad... and provided me with similar feedback... thanks for your imput either way....
  3. Been finalizing our race schedule. Have some more info: Yes, we will be having a Downhill training day on the Friday before the Cooper Cup Downhill. This is not required for participation on Saturday but for obvious reasons is highly recommended. If you are too sketchy at speed on Saturday we will reserve the right to refuse you full speed runs. Would hate to do that but safety is our first priority! Sunday March 22nd we will also be holding a downhill. To participate Sunday you will have had to raced on sat. It is a team downhill and you can bet on your team or buy another. I can't remember exactly how those rules play out so I will have to give more details later...
  4. Thanks to any comparison with Thorndike.... though I doubt that was intended!!!! Can't say I can offer what Pete would, am acquainted with what a class act and world class athlete he is... I will continue to brainstorm what may be desired that I may be able to offer... Think that Noah may have been the very dedicated father I spoke with under the Bomber tent at the RFTC... thanks for your imput. Wish I could have made the pirate party would have expected good ideas floating around there... more info soon...
  5. Maybe I am spreading a rumour for event promotion but the word out of Sean's mouth was that he was considering planning on turning up at Ski Cooper for the Downhill and bringing his camera... I should also take this chance to promote the new Donek Calendar that Sean mentioned to me. I am excited to get a hold of a copy!!! He said something about it going to be available though bomberonline.com too but for now it is on his site and looks hot!!! 2009 Alpine Calendar :: $17 Enough pictures to keep you stoked all year long. Our calendar also lists FIS and NorAm race dates, plus Expression Session events for 2009. My goal is that we can have a decent presence at this years downhill and next year maybe Sean will find the event worthy of listing on his calendar!!
  6. I am thinking that a lot of participants for this years USASA Nationals may need some speed training and gate training prior to the big event... I know that alpine races can be kind of scarce leaving you little practice before nationals... Would like to hold a race camp at Ski COOPER specifically aimed at tightening up for USASA nationals... I have a great training lane and race director support... any thoughts?
  7. Was just at Ski Cooper yesterday for our race crews first official activity this season... really excited for this season. Looks like I will be playing a larger coaching role with our race club!!! The club is really open to growing our involvement with snowboard racing. We are hoping there is enough interest to add a race in late march that is held with snowboard gate panels and possibly run as a dual. Seems like an actual dual race could draw enough competitors... or is there more interest in a "Y" race like Jeep king of the hill? if that comes off it likely will be just before USASA nationals.... And with Copper mountain hosting USASA nationals through 2012 we are gearing up to put together a race camp to provide gate training for that event. We think we can offer a more personalized, lower overhead, gate training alternative for people coming up from the Colorado metro area. We offer less distractions so your focus is the race training. We like to keep it fun too!!!
  8. OK- COOPER CUP!!! We are basically a family event. We encourage all our race kids parents to participate and most do. Now this doesn't mean it is not a fully functioning race, results are sanctioned as Nastar and many of our participants compete in Steamboat at their nationals. Cooper Cup results can be found on the nastar web site... The COOPER CUP is all about having racing as an aspect that all the diverse winter sports share!!! Racing with each other more than against... That is just our whole attitude we foster with our race club. That being said... I will be very competitive attempting to maintain my position as the fastest board at Cooper If you look up race results you'll see how delicate my title is... Race Registration is held at the base lodge from 9 - 11 AM morning of race. Entry fee is the same as any other timed Nastar runs at Cooper : $ 5. This includes free aps at the awards held in Leadville at local restaurants. I will update this post with the sponsor schedule asap...
  9. Thor- would love to have you up!!! The Cooper Cup is super laidback. We usually allow for course inspection and two practice runs if you are on it. We normally start timed runs at noon without a regulated start order. Done by 2ish. Then awards are at one of our local restaurants with free appetizers around 5pm. Help get the word out I am hoping to have some other carvers to suit up with for that downhill!!!
  10. Hey B-2, great video links... thank god our snowboards have evolved! but Cooper is pretty much exactly the same as back in 1981! for one we still have 100% natural snow! in fact you still see the 1981 ski fashions surviving as hand-me-downs not as a spoof! We love it up here and look forward to sharing all the fun!!!

  12. First off let me introduce myself. I am Todd Quigley Ackerman. I am thirty-one years young and this will be my second season as an Alpine Coach at Ski Cooper in Leadville, CO. My fifteenth or so season as an alpine snowboard racer. I want to let everyone know that snowboard racers are more than welcome to participate in our local races at Ski Cooper. We offer a great place to get your start in alpine racing. We are not a sanctioned USASA event. This means less hassle and cost for both us and you. We hold a multi disciple event so the whole family can participate, telemark is also welcome. As we are primarily a ski race we have courses set with full size breakaway gates, but I am optimistic that we may be able to generate enough interest to hold a race with snowboard gates in the spring before USASA nationals at copper. If there is interest I am also trying to put together a low cost training camp for nationals. We are excited that our neighbor Copper Mountain is hosting USASA Nationals through 2012. This means over the next four years we are in a very unique position to grow our program and offer a much needed more economical training program within Colorado. This winter's Cooper Cup Race Schedule: Sunday January 4th, 2009 Cooper Cup #1 GS Sunday January 11th, 2009 Cooper Cup #2 GS Sunday February 1th, 2009 Cooper Cup #3 GS Sunday February 15th, 2009 Cooper Cup #4 GS Saturday March 7th, 2009 Cooper Cup #5 GS Saturday March 21st, 2009 Cooper Cup #6 DH Yes, that last one is a downhill! So put it on your calendars! How many races can you get out the truly big decks for? Ski Cooper has excellent grooming and great terrain for perfecting your carve! We hosted the first snowboard race in April 1981 and have always welcomed carvers on our slopes. We hope you race with us this winter. Questions? Comments? Gripes? Complaints? (about racing at Ski Cooper) or to arrange for private coaching... I can meet you at Copper, Loveland, ABasin, etc. if you ride elsewhere but won't necessarily have gate access. 13. as far as I have heard... Ink- have you worked out access to the hill that early? I am a graveyard snowmaker at copper and am trying to have a sled ride worked out... but you have been around so I am not trying to patronize but that may be a factor for you... can always hike it...

  15. If you change your plans to be in Colorado, I am sure we could figure something out... I am currently in the process of working out my coaching arrangement with Ski Cooper where I am a developmental alpine coach. Looking forward to working with the kids again, but with the current economy we are nervous about our returning numbers.... We are only half an hour from summit county and very close to USASA nationals at Copper... well not trying to dissuade you from Utah, but if plans change... you are an inspiration!! best of luck!!!
