I have had the opportunity to see Bruce build a board and have seen the amount of thought and care he puts in solving small problems and improving his build process. I know that Bruce was not a nurse but worked at a hospital. Personally I think the nurse comment was sexist as I have met male nurses and they work hard and do a valuable job. I do not know Virus, but would like to think that, like any manufacture, he is interested in improving his designs. Good engineering only happens by examining ways that a product does break. Boards break as they have a life expectancy as they are meant to be used. I would like to know how a board is made and why it would fail. As for the issue of being innovative, engineers only improve designs by small degrees each time they redesign a product. I would like to think that all board builders use feedback from customers and test their own designs by riding them to improve their product. I am only 16 but it’s clear that both builders care about their product that is the real issue.

I was on the top of the hill with my Dad waiting for the hill to clear. I asked the older gentleman on skis if he would like to go. He said no I love watching you guys carve the hill go ahead! The same day a skier asked me if my snowboard was broken. I replied no I bought it this way. Perhaps it was the stubby nose. The day before we were riding with Bruce V. My Dad has a new VSR with a snake skin topsheet. Bruce loudly complemented my Dad on his huge snake!! Lots of funny looks in the lift line!!!

The Hodgins boys will be there. Gabe usually is there and Imo and Ken usually are there until 10:00-10:30. Last Saturday there was 6 or 7 carvers. The snow was great and there is a possibility that the Moonstone side will be open. Conditions look cool but good for the weekend. So we will see you there!

The ugly one is mine its a 177 NSR and the red snake skin is my Dads 168 VSR. Now all we need is some snow.

I think everybody does things when they are young that they grow up to be embarrassed about. Does that mean that they cannot go on to learn from those experiences and do good things? Besides he didn't use a performance enhancing drug he just got mellow! Also he didn't smoke he just inhaled.

My Dad rode the Oxygen Apex and it is a fairly stiff board. The Surf Politix is softer and it rides better in powder. If she learning it would be a more forgiving board.

I only weigh 115lbs and I bought a coiler this year. It’s really hard to find a board made from that weight range, that is longer than a 156. The best thing is to look for an old board made for a light weight rider on the bomber classifiedsm, sometimes they pop up.:)

I have used them for about a day. They are stiff, side to side flex, but I only weigh 115 lb's. I just switched from bails to stepins so it is not really a good comparison. F2 doesn't give you enought shims so you have to make your own.

My son recently bought a board from Bruce. He is 15 and this was his first real alpine board that he bought with his own money. Bruce, who lives locally rode with us a Mount Saint Louis and manufactured a board to fit his size and weight. Bruce was great to deal with and treated Stewart professionally and spent his time to explain what he needed in a board. Stewart's riding has vastly improved and the board looks fantastic! The whole experience including a tour of the shop was friendly and very interesting. Bruce is definitely a Mr. Wizard at making boards! Ride one they sell themselves!

My Dad had a 1/2 day off and took me to MSLM on Friday. They have started to open the Moonstone hills. They were getting dumped on all afternoon with changing snow conditions. Saturday looks good!:)

Coiler NSR, 2010, waist 20 cm, height 177 cm, side cut variable
Rider: 16 years old, weight 130 lbs, height 5ft 4inches, riding alpine 3 years.
Equipment: F2 bindings and Deeluxe Suzuka boots
This board was designed and custom built by Bruce V. This summer for a first time racer. The board has been ridden without a top sheet so that modifications could be made after it has been ridden in a variety of conditions. The board will have a top sheet placed on it in the next couple of weeks without any changes. It is fast with excellent edge hold in a variety of conditions. It cuts into a carve smoothly without chatter and the tail shoots you into the next carve without shaving off speed. It is damp but not dead and can be used as a free carve. It is poppy enough that when ridden aggressively you can get air between carves. Fast, fast and faster but can turn on a dime. The only problem is that if it was any longer it would not fit in my Dad’s compact car.
