  1. Qualifying is over.....Final ladder is posted....http://www.fis-ski.com/pdf/2010/SB/7025/7025SLRF.PDF

    Morison didn't make the Q's

Jaysey and Lambert go head to head in the first round.....

Congrats to the Americans.....5 qualified, (but up against tough rivals) including Vic Wild

Finals should start around 11:00 am Eastern

Webcam of the finish area at http://www.opentopia.com/showcam.php?id=3606&time=1255088988

    Good luck to all

  2. Oshawa Ski Club at Kirby has Demo's available at their Pro Shop via Dave and Andrea at YYZCanuck. Oxygen Protons from about 148 to about 184, Deluxe 225's from 24 to 30 and F2 bindings.

They are home to is probably 30 or more alpine riders including the Race program...Towers has about 5 OSC riders in his high performance program.

The weekends will be a bit busier now with the seven week lesson program and racing starting this weekend.

  3. Nadia- On the last photo notice that on the side of the baseplate of the front binding there is the word -INSIDE-

These Burton Bindings have a 3 degree cant built in to them. (cant is the amount the boot is angled to either side)(lift is fore and aft)

The word -INSIDE- should appear between your feet.

You need to put your rear binding on the front and your front one on the back or else you will be riding with 3 degrees outward cant on each leg...though it's OK if you are severely bowlegged.

These bindings were for free riding....meant to be ridden at fairly low angles without a lift plate...hence the 3 degrees of tip in.

  4. I don't think there is any B or C team with the level of finance at the CSF. Everyone else pays to play.....trying to get points to move up. There is very little funding for snowboarding (and I think they have decided that BX the main disipline) even though we have had GREAT results from Jasey and Matt in alpine. Adam McLeish moved to GBR this year after being on the cusp of the alpine team for years in Canada.

It's pretty easy to look up the racers running at the FIS level for any country in any year. Go to FIS-SKI then click on FIS Points, the top one is the newest list (new one will be out Dec 9). Sort the list with the drop down menu (change LASTNAME to Parallel), country (CAN or US) , gender, and search.

Here is a list of Canada's racers. Sort with the gender drop down. http://www.fis-ski.com/uk/604/607.html?sector=SB&listid=10049&lastname=&gender=M&firstname=&nation=CAN&order=PAR&fiscode=&birthyear=&Search=Search&limit=100

You can go as far back as 1996 to follow any ones results through the years. There are some interesting names that pop up ;-)

There are plenty of good alpine riders in programs in Ontario and Quebec that are too young (under 15) to race FIS.

I hope this helps, and I didn't just muddy things up.

  5. Dave-

I believe the race in Tremblant is the North American Championship (NAC) . The WC is in Stoneham, north of Quebec City on February 22.

Le Relais, also north of Quebec City is hosting a NAC PGS and PSL on January 24 & 25.

Link to all North American FIS, NAC, and WC snowboard events. (Hope it works)

    http://www.fis-ski.com/uk/disciplines/snowboard/fiscalendar.html?place_search=&seasoncode_search=2009&sector_search=SB&date_search=&gender_search=&category_search=&codex_search=&nation_search=CAN%2CUSA&disciplinecode_search=&search=Search&limit=20&date_from=today

Its a little confusing though...if you go to the next page the same events and dates at Tremblant are listed as MAS with different codex numbers. (except HP) ...??Phil? MJB? LeBob? Tim? anyone?

All would be wonderful to watch. I am hoping to be at all three events.

The Stoneham venue is great...you can see the whole course top to bottom from the chalet and can easily walk to different viewing points along the race course.

Le Relais is even better as the course is easier to walk to and the parking lot is higher than the finish area and you can see over the knuckle right up to the start.

I don't know where the GS race will be at Tremblant...most likely the upper half...Taschereau or Kandahar. Both would be near impossible to access on foot. But hey, why not volunteer...lift ticket and lunch are generally provided for gate keepers and timers, or maybe just work the set up, slipping the course or teardown. You get access to the run plus the benefit of seeing North Americas best and the new young talent up close. It is always a struggle to gather enough volunteers for alpine snowboard events, but if it goes well we will have had a hand in promoting this great sport.

At Tremblant you can probably volunteer the day before or the day of the event, but for Stoneham contact http://www.gestev.com/ well ahead of time.

p.s- Skategoat, are you going to bring the kids so they can see where they want to be in a couple of years?

Or if MAS means Masters should we be training??

  6. Freeze the vid just after the fall and watch as he swings the ski in the air....looked to me like a 4 inch riser shaped like an M when viewed from the side, maybe spring steel? Anyone seen that before? Is it new or old?

    JDB.

    p.s.

Anyone notice Benny Karl's WC snowboard binding system last year?

  7. CBC is supposed to be showing the FIS Snowboard World Cup from Stoneham Quebec on Saturday March 29 at 1:00 pm.

Check for changes...it is the CBC.

Don' t expect much Alpine PGS, most coverage will probably be BX and HP.

I'll have to set the VCR .....Lots of snow here ...I'll be riding.

  8. I also found a well shot and well edited 25 minute video of the WC at Gujo-Gifu Japan including BX, HP, and PGS. Thats the BX where Graham WATANABE won GOLD. The PGS starts around the 19 minute mark.

If the link dosen't work go to www.snowtime.com ,look for the free videos and Scroll to "Nokia Snowboard FIS World Cup Magazine #14"

What a great snowsport site.....I'm bookmarking this one.

I don't know why the TV networks can't or won't show this stuff. It's already shot, edited and packaged. Great stuff!

Any one subscribe to this site? I may try it next year as there is still near no press at all available here.

The CBC had cameras all over at Stoneham but I haven't seen anything on the schedule yet. If anyone hears about a broadcast ....let me know.
