  1. Now about getting my wife back to DC for school...

    Greyhound...Amtrack...Air Canada...United....Delta...Hertz...shall I continue?

Oh, and a little birdie has told me there may be another reason to come North earlier in February but I will wait for the official announcement so I don't steal the thunder. :eplus2:

I think many may already know...

  2. Hey those of you that ride mtn bikes in the dark....what do you use for light systems, or what do you wish you used for light systems?

I'm in the market and can't decide, budget of up to about $400ish, but would rather stay in the $200 range.

So far I've been thinking this: 2 x Nightrider Lumina 650s, one for my helmet one for my handle bars, or this setup: DiNotte XML-3 on handle bars with a 400L on helmet.

    Thoughts?

  3. So they say: "we come up with what we believe are the best events to showcase to our fans on-site and obviously the networks, too"

OK, MAYBE a long X course for the fans on-site isn't appealing to the masses.

But they also say: "snowmobile snocross...returning to the 2013 Aspen schedule." Isn't that a longerish course too?

Oh well board and ski X were the only events I tried to catch...

  4. So, yesterday afternoon we drove up to Red Rocks, then up 74 to Kittredge and Evergreen, then turned around and did "The Fort" for dinner. Not too bad a place, great menu! Not sure whats going on tonight or tomorrow yet...

Saw some fly fishers fishing pocket water on Bear Creek. Anyone out there fly fish?

Next time, assuming its a warmer month, I'll have to being my road bike, my mountain bike, my hiking boots and my fly fishing gear and forget about work. Saw a large amount of road bikers in and around suburb Denver as well as up 74 along Bear Creek. And obviously if its cold, bring my carving gear...

I may have to talk to the wife about moving out here...but it might be too tough to get any work done.

  5. Thanks All! I will need to check some of these places out and see what my schedule really allows for as my trip gets closer.

Michelle, if my schedule can really allow for an hour trip each way, I will come out for visit, haven't been in Summit County in years, at least since some friends were living in Silverthorne...and never been there without snow on the ground. I'll know more in the coming weeks.

  6. My first was a 1971 VW Convertible Superbeetle, got it in 1989. Tore the engine apart and rebuilt it with lots of mods: cylinders, pistons, crankshaft, carbs, cams, exhaust, etc. Could spin the tires in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear, got rid of it in college. Miss that car...

  7. So, looks like I am coming to Denver in June to meet with my boss for work. Need some advice on where to eat and drink within an hour or so. Please let know where to go!

Also1, he already said I can come back a couple of times in the winter, so I will have to time one trip around SES in 2013.

Also2, should I bring my mountain bike and spend an extra day or two this June? Anywhere worth while within a quick trip of Denver for an East Coast average single track rider?

  8. Come on, someone buy this before I have to as a backup to my 187 Tanker Heli OS. I've got the blue and white top sheet one, not sure of year (2003?), 187cmx25.8cmx9m. What a blast to ride, even on the East Coast! I even had it out on Thursday at ECES!

  9. I always have a Nikon AW100 in my pocket or pack, whether I am carrying a DSLR or GoPro, or not. It is waterproof, shockproof, etc, etc, takes pretty good pictures (for a P&S), and has surprisingly good video. It does have some sort of capability for gloved users, something about shaking it and then using buttons. I have never used that feature, I just take my gloves off. One pair of gloves, I've cut the finger tips off of my liners for ease of use of a DSLR.

  10. Ben what are you getting for mps? This is on our list for my wifes replacement in 2-3 years.

If you drive nice and are running the stock tune, with the Ecoboost motor and AWD, realistically about 16 around town, 22 on the highway. Driving with an aggressive tune loaded, and "enjoying it," it drops to around 14 around town and maybe 19 on the highway. But to drive a 4 door huge station wagon that outperforms most sports cars and luxury performance cars/suvs you see on a daily basis out there is a blast and is totally worth the drop in MPGs.

Not sure what the naturally aspirated Flex gets for mileage though.

I actually despised the Flex when we shopped, but one dealer made me sit in one (almost forcibly), a loaded Limited with Ecoboost (and AWD), so I sat, and fell in love with the inside. Then I drove it, we signed for it an hour later. This is coming from a 6'7" guy who has only bought full size SUVs or mid-size or larger P/Us in the past as my daily drivers. I'm still not a huge fan of the external "look," but everything else about it makes me love it. It does real well in the snow too. Only thing missing for me was the ground clearance for hunting and fishing, but I solved that by buying my wife a 4dr Wrangler.

  11. What are some of you using for vehicles? Last time I looked at SUV's, finding ones with a long enough roofline for a big container or interior to carry a our long boards and my long skis. They were few and far between. Ford flex fit the best then.

You said it, "Ford Flex," Limited with Ecoboost and AWD of course. Oh yeah, tuned too! Mine is a 5000lbs, sub-13 second car now, about 425hp at the crank, 320hp at the wheels. With tons of room, even I can sit behind me in it. Check out www.ecoboostownerforums.com for some info on the Flex, SHO, F150 and others with the Ecoboost motor.

  12. VTers and regulars, you guys think Stratton will be crowded this Sunday? I'm not a weekend rider but thinking of coming up and putting the kids in lessons for the morning, and getting some turns in myself.

Anyone else going to be out?

It's either that or a nice long bike ride in CT.

  13. Thanks, I was out with Geoff, Jack and crew for a run or two early and couldn't keep up with them any more due to dealing with may pack and camera gear for photo ops, then I hung by the race course until lunch. Time to search for a new bag for shooting on the snow. While my pack (f-stop backpack) is phenomenal for weight distribution and what not, it does need to come off my back to get to my gear. Not so good for run and gun shooting riders who just go, go, go... Time to find something that can rotate around my body, but also be pretty stable while riding.
