  1. Hi Slopestar

I'm the other MH east rider here. Maybe this season we'll have more than

two hardbooters at east at the same time. I ride there weekends and the odd

day off. Post up here when you are going.

Like Theo said, west is pretty good at night or late afternoon, just stay on the steeper runs and use chairs 5 and 6 more than the quad. I got there at 3 pm one spring day and some of the runs off of chair 5 looked like untracked

    freshly groomed spring snow.

I also go to Summit a bit, with our family having 3 birthdays in December we take advantage of the free birthday passes.

Look here for the carve sessions at Summit, it's always fun riding with a group

and the grooming there is the better than MH. I think I was there about 7 times last year.

    "Snow Summit carver here.

My experience with the mountain, people, and younger staff on the West side was less than stellar."

Hey Albert was this 3 years ago when I saw you and Chris there? If I recall

some of the older staff was pretty cool.

You should give east a try.

  2. The Mammoth web site had a picture of a large lift line in the morning.

They took it off the site later on.

The combination of free tickets and most So Cal College students being off on Fridays is the perfect storm for a crowd.

Plan on going after the next storm later this month.

  3. I'm hoping for a late October opening also. I've been there early the past few years before thanksgiving and I don't think I will go again if only Broadway is open. But then again I may NEED to go.

I agree about the heat. It's hard to imagine Loveland making snow while I'm burning up at work.

  4. Hi Loc

    check out this link

    http://webpages.charter.net/tcrocker818/

Scroll down the page to the "History of Southern California Snow Conditions"

Look at the 97/98 and the 82/83 seasons, both good El Nino seasons.

I rode Mt Baldy on the Memorial day(May 25th 1998) and Mammoth on the last day of June. Baldy had good coverage on Thunder Mt. and was open till the end of May I believe.

Check out the May reports for '98 on this one (3 ft of new snow in May)!

  5. Hey Theo, how do I get a printout? Don't tell me I need to drive up there!

"I ended the season on a high note, carved a nasty black diamond top to bottom at a safe speed"

So I take it the newer Coiler works well or were you riding the delam special.:)

  6. That might have been true for the original Madds. The 3rd generation Madd that I owned, then sold to George, was user friendly. At least as user-friendly as an 18cm wide board can be.

I agree that the Madd is user friendly, I rode it all day on the Sunday that

I bought it and it felt great. I love narrow boards! Too bad I have big feet.

  7. There were four of us carving at June, Niel, Kerry,Ilia(on a Prior)and myself, we just weren't all together. Just wish I could see better with the snow and wind.

I almost stayed Sunday night but couldn't blow off work. I knew Monday was going to be an awesome day. There was over a foot of snow on top of my car from Saturday night to Sunday afternoon.

  8. Erwin: I'm glad you're ok after the collision. What an end to a great day.

    I think I'm buying a helmet tonight.

Julian thanks for posting the video and thanks to Andrea again for filming.

It's very helpful to see what I look like compared to how I feel riding. I

need to get lower, more on toeside turns maybe.

Also Julian you were right about the BTS being $59 my eyes must be getting old and I saw $49 Sat night. I'm still buying a pair for my boots.

  9. Good to see you riding again Aaron. I think "carvealicious" is the word I was looking for to describe the snow on Thursday. I was just telling Brenden on Thursday that it helps to get low(and back hand front cuff) and that I have seen pictures of rail grab backside (heelside) turns.

Don, I tried to catch up to you two but always seemed to be about halfway up looking down, maybe next time. Keep watching the ride board.

Tomorrow looks like a Baldy day, though Valentines day may cut it short.
