  1. The vet that started my dog on the Deramaxx is has also been a friend of mine for the last several years. He too has two dogs, one of which he has put on Deramaxx and trusts it completely. His background and knowledge seems to be very solid and he also studied and practices some interesting alternative medicine, acupuncture being some of that. <O:p</O:p

Any way, I only give my dog Deramaxx as needed for her comfort and not necessarily every day. If she really overdoes it she will show signs of the pain and may then get just a bit more right then. I think that it does a great job but, like I said in the previous post, she does not speak English too well so I have to trust her reactions.<O:p</O:p

Threadjacked maybe, but it still must be the longest thread and maybe even the most viewed.

  2. Just went to this thread to see what the topic is and how it has morphed.

Rimadyl is OK stuff but I think that you should give Deramaxx a try. It is non steroidal. I switched to this after a recommendation from my vet in McCall and it seems to work better than Rimadyl, at least for my dog. Once a day instead of twice and can be found with a lot of other drugs at

Deramaxx is also said to be much healthier for your dog (however I cannot seem to get a straight answer from her, the dog). petmeds2go should save you some $$ on anything that you want to use. All you need is your script from your vet on file with them to order it.<O:p</O:p

More on Deramaxx on their site

  3. I would follow the ice and add the “BR” suggestions if you want.

The only thing that I would do at this point is to see sports medicine therapist to get any and all exercises that would help in speeding the recovery of the mussel. This person should be able to evaluate the injury and let you know whether or not you need to see a physician. This should make it easier and quicker to get it back into shape. Some of the exercises at this point will most likely be very minimal and maybe even seem stupid, but do not underestimate them. All recovery starts with small steps.

  4. Good that you looked into the application. While earlier may be better chances statistically there is also a snow covered access road that if closed would add about $200 per person for either a fly in to the first airstrip - still leaves 75 miles of river but we don't float the first 25 with the flyin.

There is also an over the snow shuttle for about 1,600 bucks. Either option adds time, money and a bit of uncertainty. The uncertainty is the water flow. It usually peaks earlier rather than later in the month. We usually don't want to go at peak. If it is a grim snow year     then we will go for the peak flow or earlier. No offense but with jbird being relatively new, I haven't boated with Tom and Lisa - they have some skills and gear but also relatively new to rafting and you and your wife we just don't need to push for bigger water.

    We will talk soon.

Anyone else on this thread besides Dave and jbird interested??

    Ken? Art? Ken?

Just so you all know it is also possible to put in at/near the highway if indeed the road is still snowed in and float to dagger. Carve Dog, one year we did this at well over 10 feet in kayaks and the guys doing this with rafts did not rig their boats until after the pack bridge above dagger. A loaded boat will just fit under the bridge with out the frame.

If you do this option, the water will be high enough that you can still get to the take out as early as you need to. Believe it or not we did the trip to the main over night and could have done the whole rive in one day. Obviously you do not want to have any beginners on that sort of trip.

So even if the road is still closed, it does not mean that the river will be scary high. It can still be a very fun trip for all.

  5. Hey Jerry

I would be interested in the trip. It's been a few years since I have been in a boat (kayak mostly) but would do the trip in a raft. That river is fun at all levels. Went down one time with a few friends in the early spring and after having to put in at the highway we still could have done the whole stretch in one day. Not sure a raft would have been my choice at about 10+ feet, but at less than 4-5 the big boats are the best. You can haul a lot of beer (and food) in them.

PS. I do not remember the dates to put in for the lottery but maybe we should know what the cut off time is when it gets close.

  6. Every one has different feet, different boots, and different needs.

I had foam liners made for my boots. They are a bit on the heavy side and the stiff side, but what I like is that you put on your boots and they fit like a glove. My feet do not even begin to move around in my boots like I remember thermo fits can in what seems like a short time.

I also use a good custom foot bed (cannot remember the brand) which should only keep your foot from deforming and flattening out when you are pressuring it hard. I do not think that a foot bed will help heal movement. That should be the job of the liner. Grant it, it may take up more room in the boot making a tighter fit. It could be that I am lucky and do not get cold feet either. I do believe that keeping your core warm will increase the heat your body sends to you extremities'.

I also wear an AF700 which is already stiff, some of you in the AF600, 121/3/5 and 324/5 boots might not like the added stiffness.

I have over 2 years in my foamed 700's and the fit is just as good as the first day they were made. I almost changed back to the heat moldable liners (weight and flex) but was told by my boot fitter that I would never have the heal hold down that I have gotten from the foam injected liners that I am using now.

    There, another experience...............another thought..........

  8. I did do a big water Selway trip with Irv about four years ago. He is a fun boater to watch.

I only boated with Irv when I would see him on the North Fork. (my back yard so to speak). I don't boat any more, gave it up for too much work or something.

If you have a spot for me I will take it. That would be nice.

I know that you have done a clinic or exam in the past in McCall and if you are still doing that sort of thing let me know and if none of the instructors are putting you up, you can have my place to use. Not much but it is dry and warm.

  9. Looking for feedback on the ear pad headphones available built into helmets - I have a Gyro 9 and know they make one with speakers in the ear flaps. Seems like it would kind of suck...lots of windnoise, but would love to get rid of the ear buds I wear now.

The upgrade is very nice. Sound quality is very good.

You can keep the volume low enough to talk on the lift and sitll hear your tunes or loud enough to tune out the rest of what is going on.

  10. I am up for some days at Sun Valley</ST1:p. It has been about 2 years since I have been there. I have even purchased the discount ticket pass the last 2 years(offered to Idaho residents with other season passes) and have not been able to get there, usually due to work. One sometimes forgets how much fun that mountain can be.

The earlier dates, January 18, 19, 20, would better fit into my schedule as it stands now.

  11. I consider Fin and crew friends and have always admired his dedication and ability to manufacture great products. He is true to his beliefs and honest about his discoveries. A true craftsman and an honest individual. I am supporting his effort and wish the best to all.

<O:p</O:pI also think that Jack should make a challenge thread for the donation end of it (PBS style) and see how many of us (only if you can afford it) will pay double, triple or even four to eight times the donation for just one starter kit. (I would start it but I am not geek enough for that type of computing) And Jack, if you do the challenge keep everyone’s names out of public eye. Numbers would be enough.
