  1. I decided on the Evo with Randal R-II's and Abec 11 Gumballs (I'm pissed that you can't get the pink gumballs anymore though!).

I actually hemmed and hawed about the wheel choice for the better part of the day today. I had originally planned on 97mm Flywheels, then decided they were too big and I would get tired of pushing them around. So then I decided on the 90mm Flywheels, and then the 83mm Flywheels. At 83mm, I realized that I might as well look at the 75mm-ish size wheels, of which there is more than one choice. I was ready to go with Retro Pink BigZigs, then realized that the pink bigzigs are only 77a durometer - way too soft for my purposes.

Then I'm sitting here, and I thought about what duro I DID want, and decided that ~83a+/- would be best for all around (I find the 80a wheels on my Gravity board to be a touch soft and short-rolling, if comfy and quiet).

So it was down to the Bigzigs in Yellow or the Gumballs in 83a. Damn near everyone on a longboard on my campus has Gumballs in one durometer or another, so the deck was stacked towards the Bigzigs (green wheels are getting out of control - like Denali Jackets and Uggs). Then I noticed that the Bigzig upgrade price was $29.99 and the Gumballs were only $19.99. Sold to the Gumballs! I took the extra $10 and got black R-IIs instead of silver. The black trucks are going to look SICK on the black board, too bad I couldn't find black wheels as an upgrade option...

Grand total price? $237.93!, $50 less than I was going to spend from daddiesboardshop.com for a similar package. Thank you boards on nord!

It's going to be a loooooooong week waiting for this thing to show up.

  2. If you look board for campus riding why dont you pick GS board?

You'd have to know the campus. We've got several very very large and steep hills.

Between the huge hills on campus and the fact that I want something to bomb with on the weekends, that's why I'm looking at the DH-style boards.

  3. I'm giving serious consideration to buying a new board with some of my tax return money, and it's come down to the Landyachtz Evo or DH Race.

The DH race is 1.25 inches narrower than the Evo, but that doesn't bother me much as I ride with overhang on my current board, or with some alpine-style foot angles. The Evo seems to be pretty popular here at school, but all the reviews that I've read talk about how great it is for bombing hills, with little to no mention of how it scoots.

I've heard that they both push like a dream because of the low ride height, but what about low(er) speed turning? 95% of my riding is done around campus and I don't want or need another tank like my Gravity Spoon Nose, I need something that can actually take turns off of pedestrian paths without needing to take a racing line, something that can dodge the fat chick and her friends as they giggle up the hill.

At the same time I'm looking for something that's not going to wobble me into a tree on said hill, because we've got some serious hills here and my spoon nose likes to wobble like mad (hence looking at drop-down boards).

    So DH Race or Evo?

Edit: I just read the product description of both (GASP) and gleaned more information from those than the countless reviews that were to the effect of "OH MY GOD D00D, I DID 60004 MPHS ON THIS BOARD IT R00LZXORS"

Looks like the Evo has angled mounting points whereas the DH Race does not, and these angled mounts make it turnier than the DH Race. Evo it is.

  4. It's a nice name, though. Coupla years back, I met a woman from Derry named Caoimhe. Try pronouncing that!

'KEEvee' is the most common, evidently. Although, with that Derry accent, it was a bit different.

You just confused the hell out of me...I live in Derry...New Hampshire lol :smashfrea

  5. neither are rockered if you buy something prior to this year.

why would you get the coda though? just curious.

I'm interested in the Coda because of Arbor's boardmapping concept. They advertise the Coda as being best in the park and damn good on the rest of the mountain, which is exactly what I'm looking for. The width seems good at 25.4 on the 161.

I'm still pretty open to ideas on what to get at this point, I'd like to get an Arbor because of the company, but it all comes down to the almighty doll-hair.

what size softboot are you in?

I'd start there and get the board based on not having to ride retarded angles, maybe choose the boot you need first?

I rented a size 11 yesterday, but there's no doubt that with a good fitting I could be in a 10.5 or even a 10. It's too bad that the Startingate doesn't sell softies.

I have not been on a rockered tanker but I do have to say I have a kessler that's decambered in both the nose and tail. I'm not entirely sure full rocker would be THAT negative. might not be beneficial for carving either but it's a park deck.

I'm still weary of rocker - it just seems too jibber-ish...I'm going to have to ride a board with rocker before I can make a judgement for myself, but I absolutely will not buy a rocker board before riding one. I'm used to going for big camber, so completely reversing that is unsettling to me.

As for it being a park deck, I'm really looking for something as a one-plank alternative to my Teles. I don't want a park-specific deck, which is why the likes of the Coda, A-Frame, Burton Supermodel, et. al. are on my list to check out.

Right now, I'm going to be buying boots first - I still have my old bindings so that's not high-priority, I just really need boots like you said. I'll probably buy the first mid-flex boot that pops up in my size on Brociety.com...I missed a good pair this morning because it popped up as I was leaving for class . It was the Celsius cls9 - for $110... It didn't sell out, so it'll be back soon.

  6. Just got back...

Hot damn that was a good time!

Modern softie gear holds an edge much better than it used to. I couldn't really drop it over because of boot-out, but it did a reasonable job of carving it up.

I'm somewhat ashamed that I brought my coiler today and left it at the ski/board check all day :o but I had a damn good time anyway.

  7. Rockered board. You can butter without even yanking on the off-snow leg. :ices_ange

    Never.

Bob, I wear a 10.5 street shoe, and the guys at the StartinGate stuffed my feet into size 26 Stratos pros. My Old Vans softies are size 10.5, and if I molded the liners they would fit perfectly, so I guess my feet aren't all that big.

I'm wearing size 29 Tele boots, but that's because I got a screaming deal on them from Steep and Cheap (65% off IIRC) - that's probably what you remember.

Would you be interested in trading your park board for a Burton Amp 153?

  8. I'm officially a victim of Olympic marketing. After watching the men's halfpipe competition, I decided that I need to get back on some softboots and go hit the park.

I hadn't seen freestyle snowboarding look that awesome since I was 9 years old - and even then, everything impressed me at that age.

    I'm so ashamed.

I rode the "mini"park at Gunstock last sunday on my teles and ate **** countless times trying to hit rails on skis lol. I'm renting a noodleboard this sunday and I'm going to take a lesson to get back into the swing of softies and cruise the park some more.

    Any advice?

  9. :D I am a licensed RN !

I've told Michelle and Dan but wanted to let you guys all know. I am super psyched... and now back to sending out resumes!

congratulations! My fiancee is currently trying to transfer into Nursing School, hopefully three years from now she'll have something similar to say :biggthump

  10. I'm guessing you saw the 60 minutes episode?

Looks like they are several years away from a home model that they could sell for under $3,000.

If it does what the pre-press release article that I just read on The Guardian says it does, then I'm all over these things. If it really can do what its creators claim, then petroleum as a fuel will officially be on life support this Wednesday, and I think that my house will be off-grid soon.

  11. These are also sold, sorry Ronin!

I was paypaled for them this morning.

Again, sorry for the model name.

And as an interesting factoid, these are the newer version of the OS1, I have another set that is older (and much more beaten up) that has much larger dimples and a SIGNIFICANTLY larger kingpin. I'm not sure why Jeff redesigned them, but I personally prefer the beefiness of the original bolt and dimples. I'm sure there was no loss in structural integrity, it just makes me feel better to have the larger kingpin.

  12. Pictures

You can see that they were mounted once in this picture. IIRC, what happened was I mounted these to my powder board for a trip to jay peak and never got the chance to actually ride them because it actually didn't snow at Jay that weekend :freak3:

Other than being mounted up the one time and not ridden, they're as good as new - and that's damn good.
