  1. Guys,

The magazine will have a section called YOUNG GUNS. That means kids >18. There will be plenty of OUR AGE in the magazine but we realy want to push and promote the younger riders.

Everyone that wants to contribute stuff like exceptional pictures of riding or even a nice groomed slope just email it to me in hi-res with the name of the photographer and the rider.

Anyone else that wants to write a piece regarding a group of carvers in a specific area anywhere in the world can go ahead and do so as long as he can provide good quality photos. And anything else you can think off.

The ultimate goal is to promote our community.

  2. Hi everyone,

    I hope summer was good.

The magazine is at full speed right now so if you have stuff, ideas, photos to contribute, NOW IS THE TIME!!! The deadline is end of October.

Looking for young riders!!! If you are, or you have, or you know any young hardbooter get in touch!!!! By young I don't mean 40!!!

  3. Guys,

if you want me to put you on the mailing list please send me an email:

alexis@gforcecarving and in the subject put: CM mailing list

This way I can have a list of emails for people that are interested in this and send updates for the contents and the progress of the issue.

  4. Dear all,

As I mentioned in the previous post the magazine is happening. Hopefully this thread will help bring people together that want to contribute material : photos, articles, ideas, etc.

In terms of advertising we will be working as follows. Companies related to the carving industry can advertise for free (full page) in return they have to promote the magazine through their website. (banners, etc.). I hope people will find it reasonable.

Concerning the contents, the overall layout will almost remain as is.

    Carving events

a coverage of events that take place around the world.

We have material for SES 2011

We have material for GCS 2011 (Greece)

We will be going to the Carving Masters 11 in Solden.

Anyone who has material for any other event (text and quality photos) please get in touch.

    Interviews

    Open to suggestions.

    Technique tips

Begginer, advanced and expert tips by Jack Michaud and others

    Young Guns

Kids that are into carving (photos, info, background).

    Rider profiles

Each issue will feature 5 riders from different countries and different riding styles

    Manufacturers

Presentation of manufacturers, their products and the development process

The final price has not been detrmined yet but ny no means it will exceed 15 - 20 $.

  5. I have some good news everyone. The magazine is a go!!!! We have resolved the funding issue so we are looking at November or December for the first issue to come out.

I will be starting a new thread to try and get people involved.

  6. We have concidered the online magazine but what would the difference with BOL be? BOL has everything a magazine has. Articles, photos, etc. The general idea was to have something that everyone would keep. There are so many people that have kept the snowboard life issues that had articles related to alpine snowboarding with pictures of Cliff Ahumada and a bunch of other guys. There was also an issue that had a full spread of NIKE ACG ad with Shannon Melhuse on a heel side turn.

Overall I think that when there is something printed it becomes part of history.

Ads for related stuff is not easy since the most of the companies do not know what carving is. If we had had an issue in our hands it would be much easier to approach them and sell advertising.

  7. Even if the trip for us is halfway around the world, it is the highlight of our season. It is an amazing experience to ride with everyone and to watch everyone ride. The level of riders is just getting better every year. The photos and videos for sure keeps our minds busy until the next session.

    Ray,

We definitely missed you and Anja this year!!! I am looking forward to see you in Soelden for the CM event. Till then, enjoy Europe as much as you can!

  8. anything ever happen with this?

The problem regarding the production of this magazine was that none of the manufacturers were willing to pay for the advertising. We were trying to get half of the production cost covered by the ads. Unfortunately we were unable to get even that. We still have all the material for the magazine and we still want to do it but we are looking for alternative means of funding this project.

  9. There has been some feed back on board selection for EC. So far the general thought is technique plays more into it than equipment. Coiler has gotten most of the attention for boards...My question is if one was going to put down the cash on a new ride and the riders style is side to side laying down as deep as a carve the run/condictions will allow (also 98% of riding is here in the New England area) is a board like the Sword, G-Force, Pure Board (Bastard), F2 best bang for the $ than a Coiler or Donek. My goal is really to get feed back from those that have gone through this process since demos are hard to find. However I am looking forward to the Beast demos of Pure Board.

Here is my point of view as a company owner/rider. The companies that you have mentioned (Swoard, G-force, Pureboarding, F2) design and produce boards according to how they think that a board should work based on their riding experience. These boards are part of a small production (compare to the total snowboard production) and thus are considered semi-custom boards. When someone decides to run a production of boards he has to make a lot of compromises as to who is riding it (level, weight, strength), where he is riding it (snow conditions, etc.). Based on my experience it is impossible to produce a board that will fulfill 100% of the riders therefore by trying to increase the percentage and widen up your market you tend to make more compromises.

Manufacturers like Donek, Coiler etc. can give you the oportunity to have a board made exactly for you not to mention using your own graphics. Discussing with them your level, weight etc. will give them a prety good idea what the board should be in terms of flex, length, width and sidecut radious. The only downside is that you have to wait for the board to be made.

At the end of the day however the board is not going to make someone a rider. It is only the tool. The most important is to get the technique down and then fine tune it with the board that is going to work for you!!!!
