  1. Thanks "Shred"

We have a long way to go with the mag. Proofreading is definitely something we are planning to work on for the next issue.

The response we got already has been more than we expected so we have stuff coming in from allover the world (New Zealand, japan, Korea, etc.). 30% of the material for the next issue is already in our hands so an earlier launch date for the 2nd issue is very possible.

WTF 2012, please do. Document it, take photos and we 'll put it in the issue.

  2. Intresting.. Was the response the same for the Euro Manufactures.. I guess next issue will have Room For Frank at Virus and Marcel at Oxess, both top notch guys and top notch product !! did they respond? Im surprised if they didn't...

    Right Said Shred...

What you see in the magazine is what we got. I did inform Frank but did not put pressure since he was busy making my boards for 2012. Will be featured in the next issue. Oxess was informed in many occasions (in person and via email) but did not respond at all.

  3. I'm jealous. I ordered mine the day they went on sale and I haven't received mine yet. :(

Please send me an email so we can figure out why you haven't received it yet. There might be a delay due to the holidays but if you have ordered it on the 15 or 16 of December, you should have it by now.

    Jack,

Thanks for the comments. Indeed racing is missing from this issue. Unfortunately we were unable to find the appropriate person that would provide racing material for the mag. We will definitely work on this for the next issue.

Regarding North American manufacturers. We have contacted all of them and asked them to give us photos and information for the company profile section, or material to make an ad for them (FREE). Unfortunately there was absolutely no response from the companies that you have mentioned apart from Sean who was kind enough to give us some of his photos. I am aware of the time limitation that each manufacturer has but there is nothing I can do if the companies will not give me the material.

  4. Question, the rider profiles? That section isn't really introduced at all. Why are those people featured? Why were they picked?

    Nice job!

You are absolutely right. The idea was to introduce riders randomly selected from within our community ideally from different parts of the world.

What is missing is an intro section with the why and how.

Big Thanks to everyone for their comments an support!!!

  5. As some of you will start to receive the issue within the next following days, I would like to use this thread and get your feedback, comments, ideas, things you like and you don't like. This information will be used to make the following issues better!!

Please use this thread only when you have already viewed the magazine. It will be a big help to us.

    Thanks for the support.

  6. Well done Alex for taking the initiative and producing this annual. I've placed my order and am waiting with bated breath for its arrival!

Hehehe!!! Imagine my state of mind when I went to the publisher to pick up the first print. Just taking it in my hand and smelling the ink and paper...I cannot describe this.

The weight of the responsibility however is pretty heavy. Making the first magazine to express, describe, represent our community!!!!

    We will see!!!!

  7. It is so overwelming to see people responding to the magazine. Within the first 24 hours from the launch of the website we have gone over the 100 barrier with orders coming from all over the world. US, Canada, Russia, Switzerland, Germany, Finland, Sweden, The Netherlands, Japan, Australia...etc. We have a long way to go yet in terms of sales but I would like to thank everyone for their trust, going forward and buying something that they don't know exactly what it is and if it is worth it. BIG, BIG THANKS!!!! I hope what you will be holding in your hands in a few days will meet your expectations!!!!

  8. It is finally out!!!

And as the first copies are already on their way, I cannot describe the feeling of having the magazine come to life. After all the work and the countless hours in front of the computer screen we get to have a magazine dedicated to our community. Will it be successful in bringing our community together and promoting it in the right way? Thats for all of you to judge and evaluate. Personally I am happy that I decide to do it and went through with it even if the economics of the project prove to be unsustainable.

Hopefully people can use this thread to post their comments.

Here are some facts about the magazine that everyone should know.

    - Not a single ad that is included in the magazine was charged. All the ads were free. The goal is to break even only with the sales of the magazine.

    - All or at least most of the manufacturers (globally) were contacted to provide material for the magazine (ad or company profile). The ones that are included in this issue were the ones that submitted material. Nobody was excluded.

    - The price of the magazine is not what we were hoping for. Unfortunately our intention to produce a luxurious publication ended up with a magazine (book more likely) that weighs 800 gr. As a result we made the postal service very happy since half of the price is shipping. Still, I would not go for something less (in terms of printing quality and paper) than what it is since it is an annual publication even if it affect the sales.

    I hope you enjoy it!!!

    Thanks for the support.

  10. I did answer your email. There will be no subscriptions. It is an annual publication and you will be able to buy directly from the website as soon as the magazine is out.

Currently we are looking for 15 of December if there is no delay from people that we expect stuff from to close down the issue. Mainly from Asia, Japan, etc. We are trying to put as much stuff as possible regarding the global carving scene which proved to be quite hard. It has been very difficult to find people to communicate there. Hopefully when the magazine is out we will be able to get more people involved in submitting material.

  11. Very True!

This is one of those things that if you see it as a business move or as an investment you are never going to do it. But none of the people that are involved in the alpine snowboarding business and most of all the manufacturers do it for the profit. It is obvious that they love what they do. And so do we. It is all about making something about the sport that you love most and reaching people around the world that are equally passionate.

And here is the interesting thing. Indeed the project concentrates on a niche market. Lets suppose that we would do a magazine about a much bigger audience like music or sports cars. What would be the chance of being able to sell that all over the world?? Close to none!! With this we can reach everyone and everywhere as long as the quality of the product is as it should be for an annual publication. The good thing about this market, our market, is that although it is small you know where to find everyone.

But I am also curious about the success of this project regarding the acceptance of the magazine from the international community and the sales capacity. Not in terms of profit but in terms of covering he expenses.

It will be interesting to see what happens. I will keep you all posted.

  12. The magazine is running at 100% + right now and it looks like we are going to meet the deadline that we have set. To start sales on the 15th of December. There is a website: www.carvingmag.com All the sales will take place through this web site. There is also a facebook page: carvingmag.

The contents of the magazine so far are the following:

    - Technique. Anatomy of a heelside turn.

    - Science. Why Wax

    - History. Portrait of a MADD man.

  13. Alex, get in touch with Dave Winters. His kids RIP and they are super young. If you need his contact info, send me an email but you can also contact him through BOL.

Allready did. Dave has sent a bunch of stuff about the boys. Will be a nice piece!!

  14. Hi Alex

I'm 41 and I've an italian hardboters forum,

    hardsnowboardingitalia.forumup.it

we have some thin board/boots/bindings review,we also asked 10 questions to bilders and racers about hardbooting if you wish I coud translate them.

We are a group of centurions :) riding next to Rome  , I'll look up for some foto.

I think I have completed this questionaire. The magazine will include articles on various communities around the world. Their history, the people involved, the mountains they ride etc. There is a piece like that on Frozen Backside. Maybe you are interested on doing something similar for your community in Italy. Send me an email.

Our goal is to cover whatever happens in relation to our sport in different parts of the world.
