  1. Two other notes...I'm only 145lbs...so that changes the life expectancy of any part below my knees....second thing, this thread was originally about cracking the shells due to a non-step-in binding. My opinion, being an engineer, is that if the bales are super loose you can fail the shell heel due to impact loading..it's as if the bail is a jackhammer ...however, super tight can fail the bail as Bobble and the original author of this thread believes (it's overstressed and with super cold weather and alot of torque that could certainly be bad). It should just be snug. If you need more or less dampening then change the flex pattern of the binding, boot, plate, cants..whatever makes it comfortable...but the boot should be properly snug in the binding. However I'd defer in an instant to Fin's opinion as he designs bindings.
  2. Bryan, I'm the Mike B Bobble refers too and amazingly when I saw his boots at SES 2 years ago I was surprised to see t-nuts in the boot. They looked factory installed. I dont understand it but they were in the boots. I used to have a set of AF600's that one side of the rear boot (screws closest to the tail which are stressed the most) pulled out of the shell (these were the formed in inserts without a flange). Anyhow, I'm pretty sure that if you install a step-in heel assembly without loctite (blue) then if the threads back out (from vibration/time) you've suddenly got impact loading on the flange head and it's toast. (note that I didnt use loctite on those step-in heels which failed the inserts in the shell of the AF600's). My recommendation is to put blue loctite on a quality stainless steel bolt and just thread them in snug. The t-nuts should be hammered into to the shell such that the flange is completely flush with the shell. That way when the fastner is installed the flange isnt pulled down, deformed i.e. yielded and the strength is not weakened. The loctite will prevent impact loading...the bolt/nut is designed for static loading only. I've ridden with this type of setup for about 10 years without problems. What I'm doing with my Track 700's (2 seasons total) is sticking with the stock shell, stainless bolts w/blue loctite, removal of liner immediately after each ride. Much less chance of corrosion with drying vertical, ss bolt + loctite. However, I expect with time I will start to see recession of the moulded in inserts which means drilling and t-nut assembly with flange flat to shell (SS bolt and blue loctite). If it cant loosen, corrode, and it is just a static (torqued snug) load, the tnut should last a long time. If not then the t-nut needs to be a thicker higher grade of steel (409 or 304 stainless)....it would need to be...Bomber!
  3. I can do that if you want..The invoice would be for $206 which is what the "gift" option (3% paypal fees) would have pushed $200 up to on your side. The second button on "Send Money" is for "relatives or friends" and puts the paypal fees on your side...i.e. 3%...Let me know if you still want me to send you an invoice with this info.
  4. $35 shipped to cover my shipping costs...
