Awesome.
Now if we can get them (back) on Canadian boards!!
Oh, hi there Bruce.
-
I think I remember Kundstatd having a few Oxygen boards that were pretty short...
-
Did snowboarding even exist before Jasey-Jay?
WHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Watching Jasey Jay over the years he is certainly one of the most dedicated and consistent riders. It would be nice to see him go out on top
Hell yeah. PLEASE Jasey, DON'T HURT 'EM!!
Ross, do your thing. I definitely need to pick up "Off The Chain".

Just add more layers! I LOVE riding in the cold because most of the straightliners stay home. I end up taking frequent breaks though, it's hard to keep your hands and feet warm at -40.
Ugh, Winnipeg is a whole other breed of cold.
-
Hmm... I never ride with any skin exposed. Then again, I live in Ottawa. At -40, I wouldn't ride. Wind chill is a big factor though.

hey Keyser Soze (aka Verbal)... the photo in post #7 doesn't show what you need?
It totally does, FML. Sorry, I was at work and images are often blocked. Expect to see more of this from me.

Keyser Soze - I've had good tunes from both Tommy & Lefebvre and Kunstadt. (Both on Bank street)
Didn't the T&L on Bank burn down?

I've been wondering about this for a while actually. Sometimes when I'm in Thrift shops, I see older Tecnica boots, and it reminds me of what can be found at the Carver's Almanac: http://www.alpinecarving.com/boots.html#ski
I've always considered picking up a pair of the newer ski boots at these thrift shops for the $5-10 they're being sold for (provided I can flex them forwards a bit) and giving them a run out, but I've hesitated because of the warnings I read about getting knocked about. Are these valid concerns for people who are reasonably experienced carvers, but not race caliber? Or is this mainly just a serious issue for people that are first making the transition to plates?
Modifications to boots have been mentioned in this thread:
http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=22984
well, the boots could be softened. I've dremmeled and hot knifed more than one set of ski boots.i've been training on them all week. so far we've ground the plastic "footbeds" under the liner, blown out the toe box, custom footbeds, instep inserts, drilled out the buckles to enlarge them, taken out the shim for forward flex and stiffness, and molded the liners.Bob (or anyone else who has performed such operations, for better or for worse), do you have any examples or pics of where you've hot knifed ski boots to help with flex issues? Scott at the Carver's Almanac mentioned cutting strategic places, but I'm curious as to what those spots would be? I don't think it's been covered in a thread before.

Working working working. FML.
I could technically ride tomorrow, but I'm quite sick at the moment, and braving the cold is not on my "to do" list until I get better.
My rookie ass thinks my board needs a tune-up. Where do you guys take your boards?

Anybody have a pic of the shock cord fix?

Possibly just an English expression. Je n'ai acun d'idee comment on peut le dire en francais.
"off to the races" implies simply that all tasks are finished one is ready to go.
Ahhh, gotcha. I thought there were actual races happening in Tremblant or something, and you were going to watch them with Ian.
And then I felt sad about being excluded.
And then I cried.

And Toronto-area Apex Composites helped develop a unique plate system. "It's proving to be the new piece of technology where you can gain percentages," Anderson said of the base plate, which connects the snowboard to the rider's bindings. "So that was priceless."
Neil was right, they are playing this one close to the chest. I contacted Apex Composites about the plate system, and they said:
"Due to confidentiality agreements, we are unable to discuss any details about the system until after the Olympics. Stay tuned..."
-
we will be off to the races.
Say what?
Or is this just an Anglophone expression I don't get? FML.

Thanks Dave!
This weekend I was at Kunstadt Sports in Kanata (Ottawa) to buy my sister a pair of used softies as she embarks on her quest to learn to snowboard. I was looking at Dalbellos, and the salesman came over, so I asked about the Krypton Pros. He asked me why, and I told him I was a hardbooter, so he said "ohh yeah, the forward flex on them would work great!" He mentioned that they used to have a pair each of Oxygen and Raichle boots in the used section, but couldn't recall what had happened to them.
Anyway, he then told me that if I wanted alpine gear, the place to go was "yyzcanuck.com or something".
You're famous!

Get well soon!

Um, why switch to skis? I can ride as tightly as any skier, and I'm at least as much in control.
I wouldn't switch to skis because I've never done anything more than cross country on two sticks. I can ride tighter, but if I'm not out there carving, it isn't much fun for me. Perhaps I need to incorporate more into my riding, but I hardboot because I crave the carve, so otherwise I'm kind of missing the point. For me anyway.
Also, I definitely don't ride nearly as well as Jasey-Jay, so if he's suggesting a switch to skis, it can't be a ridiculous idea.
-
Which led me to to ponder how many hardbooters are affected by the crowds? Do you guys just bag it or just work through it? As a newb I get so paranoid about what is going on around me when its getting crowded that I completely lose focus and it goes to hell.
Not just you. I'd like to hear any sort of tactics that experienced riders have for dealing with crowds, but even Jasey Jay says that when it gets crowded, it's time to get the skis out.

At the 6:25 mark.
And if Jasey says it, IT'S THE TRUTH!
-
Oh, that sucks! I thought I read that there was nothing broken and it was only going to be 3-4 weeks! Damn... He's a serious contender for a Canadian spot on the podium.
-
Jasey-Jay is automatically qualified because he won at the World Championships in South Korea earlier in the year.
From what I've read, racers need to place in the top five, three times over the course of these qualifying races. Matt Morrison won the first event, and Lambert just picked up a silver, so I guess they need two more top 5 finishes each for automatic qualification. I don't know what happens if you miss out on automatic qualification. Perhaps someone else can shed some light? Or correct me if I'm way off the mark...

LOL. When you head over to TGR, be prepared to post nekkid pics, ideally of women.
Yeah, not of yourself. You might end up abused and banned. I wouldn't want to go through that again.

tgr??
Teton Gravity Research. I had the same reaction the first time I saw the acronym as well.
Look what's on the front page of the Toronto Star

Sorry Dave, is Sean Martin a Canuck?
I really don't know, this may just have been a joke I didn't get.
