  1. So me and a bunch of folks from the TGR forum will be participating in an unofficial (not an AM event) LBD at Alpine Meadows on Saturday, April 23. Rules are snowboards must be longer than 200cm. Skis over 210cm. Subtract 10cm for the ladeez. Unless some of you show up, its likely I'll be the only snowboarder out there. Or, if you have a large board you'd loan to a friend of mine, he'll ride it - I loaned him mine last year when I couldn't make it to Kirkwood.

I'll definitely be out on the 210 Donek. I know some of you have big Tankers, Tinklers and other big boards.

Retro or otherwise entertaining outfits are encouraged but not mandatory.

We're talking snowboards, not skateboards here.

  2. Definitely worth moving around. Where are you staying? Northstar is a freaking zoo on weekends (so is Squaw), so Alpine is a very good choice on those days. Homewood is small and has a bunch of slow lifts, but some of the most amazing views if the weather is clear. There are a bunch of carvers who ride at Mt. Rose, but its also sort of small.

If you come to Alpine, give me a heads up a day or two before. If I'm not teaching, I'll try to make a point of strapping on my alpine gear. I haven't ridden much this season so I need to get out there and carve some turns.

  3. 1) Yes. Just make sure you set up the bindings correctly.

    2) There's no f'ing way I'd buy Intecs over Fintecs. Plastic guts vs. metal guts. Support the US company that lives for your business vs. a foreign company that doesn't give a crap about you. No contest.

    3) Totally personal preference. I don't like to bend down unless I have to.

  4. My set up. I'm goofy. 5'10", 195lbs. 6 degree heel lift, 3 degree toe lift on TD2s.

Right foot (forward foot), set up the boot to be as upright as possible. In your picture, that would mean lowering the bottom slotted nut.

Left foot (rear), set up almost as flexed as possible. In your pic, raise both nuts. This means that the springs are pretty compressed before I do anything. But it works for me. In powder I ride in walk mode.

    I left the cants alone.

  5. What's the angle on this? If we all buy a pair you get a free one or something? There has to be some angle.

You've never done a group buy thing? Get a bunch of people together and get a special deal - why pay retail? If you get it for less than you'd pay elsewhere, then why do you care if the organizer gets a slightly better deal? Its a PITA to be the organizer of these things. IMO if you get a freebie or a bit better deal, good for you.

re: the goggles - I found them to be kind of heavy, big and of mostly novelty value at this point. I'd wait for v.2.0 if you want something like this. I didn't ski with them. Just put them on in the lodge and walked around outside a little.

  6. Wow. Lots of folks getting their undies in a bundle. Sorry I missed the original entertainment, I'd probably have gotten banned too.

I like the idea of a time-out. Much better than a permanent ban.

Its sort of sad that we need any censorship (even self-imposed). Maybe we need a "do you really want to post this" button that pops up before our posts show up? This place is so incredibly pc compared to other forums. Tex and I both spend time on TGR. You have to try really, really hard to get banned there.

My daughter has a test this week on the constitution. Last night we discussed the first amendment and all that goes with it. I explained that free speech doesn't give you the right to yell "Fire" in a crowded theatre, but she pointed out that she could stand outside school with a banner that says "Homework Sucks" or "Grading on a curve is Socialism" if she wanted. Last year a kid in her school got suspended for starting a "Mrs. Martin is a biatch" (or some word like that) group on FB. My daughter didn't think that was right - even if starting the FB group was a stupid move. I kind of agree with her. But we also agreed that when someone posted a comment along the lines of 'we should egg her car', that went to far. Right in line with Brandenburg v. Ohio.

I loved Dukes of Hazzard. I think that topsheet is cool looking. I'd never put it on my board, but don't care if snowman puts it on his (I'd probably feel different if it were a swastika, although I'd also probably still support the person's right to display it if they really wanted to invite that sort of attention). But I also think that if a bunch of forum members want to argue vigorously about their opinions, and even get all butthurt and insult one another - that's OK up until you go to far and advocate violence or some other lawless tactic (like busting up signs at Bola's business).

In the end though, it is Fin's forum. Don't like it? Go start your own. He can put you in time-out or ban you if he wants. And you can re-register with a new alias - but remember its a pretty small community and he's not a dummy - he'll probably figure it out and get understandably annoyed. You've got the right to write to him and protest your ban. You can even call him a nazi censor in your email if you want. Just don't be surprised when your time-out becomes permanent and he starts blocking your emails.

Bottom line, don't be an idiot.

If you really want to mess with someone, you can do what This Guy did (sort of snowboard related and very funny).

  7. The carnage at the finish of the women's ski final was insane.

But the most amazing (and fun) carnage to watch was SitskierX. Those guys were freakin amazing to watch.

And I think they need an event like Speed & Style (the snowmobile event) on skis and boards. You get points for speed and extra points for doing cool tricks off the booters. Can you imagine flip tricks in the middle of a BX race? :eplus2:

  8. Board and boots sound fine. You may overpower the board, but give it a try.

I'd be very hesitant to use those bindings. :nono: OK for kids, not so much for us grown-ups.

If $$ is an issue, I'd try to find some good used bindings here on BOL. Bomber, Catek, F2, Snowpro would all be better choices than that (sort of in that order of preference IMO). Even Burton plates that are metal would be safer.

  9. Rocker: re: language. If you're going to call it a rocker binding, why not be consistent in language on your site? You talk about the binding "rotating". I was looking for how it was going to rotate (change angle). You should say it can "rock". Or angulate. But it doesn't rotate (well, it does, but along an axis that matches your binding angle). It confused me when I looked at your site.

Of course, your inability to speak clearly and articulately can be quickly explained away by your choice of schools. M Go Blue. :AR15firin
