Guest dragonfly jones Posted January 5, 2004 Report Share Posted January 5, 2004 Steamboat Springs, CO The first stop for the womens side of the Race to the Cup was held today at Howelson Hill in sunny Steamboat Springs Colorado. An international field of riders started todat's events with riders coming in from as far away as the Philipines, Ireland Canada and a strong compiment of riders from the US. After some dramatic and exciting head to head battles for the women it came down to Becky Bassett (USA) and Constance Boisvert (CAN) in the final with Becky pulling out all the stops to take the win and claim the top step. In third place was Ashley Nice (USA) and fourth place went to Ekaterina Vavialov (CAN). Those two were a highlight of the event, as the two ypoung ladies put on an outstanding show, running neck and neck and not giving up for a chance to step on the podium. Rounding out the top ten finishers on Sunday: Erica Mueller (USA), Andi Jo Stump (USA), Caroline Calve (CAN) Kimiko Zareski (CAN), Lilian Halme (CAN) and Lindsay Lloyd (USA) 10th. A few familiar faces will be in the mix in the morning when veteran US Team Rider Lisa Kosglow starts the race. And Sondra Van Ert (USA) was rumoured to entered as well. The racing action continues with the women starting the second portion of the weekend with a PGS at 9:00 am Monday morning followed by the men at 9:30.
