the results are in.....I FAILED:(

I did awsome on everything except the unloaded sled, i found a nice patch of ice for my emergency stop. And, well, i stoped about 20ft from the whistle blow, on my stomach with the sled flying toward my head. I did however manage to stop it, and continue on.

Possibly now that i have another 2 weeks of classes, i'll use my alpine board. Then maybe i can hold an edge on "firm" snow.

It's a learning curve, man. I was in the candidate colours, running a training-sled on a steep blue, with a patroller in back, when I saw a wreck 100 yards ahead of us - a grommmit snowboarder in the terrain-park; big air, bad landing.

So my patroller escort, from the sled, says "go for it", and I straight-line it toward the wreck. I rode into a trench - the sled was still going down, when I was going up and out. I got spat out of the handles, and landed face-down. The sled took off on it's own, with my ski-patrol instructor flailing around inside of it before it finally skidded to a halt, just short of the wreck.

Witnesses everywhere.

Tah-dah! "Hi. We're with the ski patrol - can we help you?" (No, really, you can trust us with you in the sled).

I don't get paid patrolling - but I don't always look so entirely professional either.

You will make it the next time - don't get discouraged. I didn't pass Basic the first time and went on to pass the next Season (freestyle board). Four years ago with alot of time on the hill, I passed the Senior on an Alpine setup. It's great to have other Patrollers boarding at your area, but you will find most are on freestyle boards. Go back next time and show them what you can do.

Interesting reading some of the posts. Early on I was taught to do transitions including rotating 180 degrees periodically to look uphill, view, and talk with the patient. I've done that using a '171' GS board without any problem. I would presume the conditions and ability might dictate your choice of maneuver.

You know, it's Snowboarding and even in Ski Patrol you have to change perceptions.

Good Luck!
