Chubz
I am sure some if not many of the folks here have tried this or seen it, but I just got back from VA on vacation at Massanutten, while there I tried the Flowrider. For all of the years of riding boards of many sorts and endless turns, this sport is more difficult than it looks. While I did not "get the knack" for it, it did get its talons into me though. Fortunately there is a flowrider 30 minutes from my house to work on the skills. I was able to get a lesson and about 20 runs in. I could drop in from the top, but still had trouble just doing simple turns across the face of the water. The other challenge is standing in line waiting your turn, about one per twenty minutes and they only give you 45 seconds= about 3 falls. Here is some footage of one of the riders I was able to watch in person. Also search youtube for Mr. Furman for some cool body board flowriding. Met him , he was pretty cool guy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3BpMkYh354
SEJ
That's wild, didn't even know it existed.
Steve Prokopiw
at Silver Mountain's indoor waterpark.Although I wish the window and real estate company that owns Silver would have spent some of that money on the mountain, the Flowrider is cool.In fact,we are hoping to host a two or three day expression session during which use of the waterpark will be offered(Morningstar Lodge packages include use of the waterpark) after getting off the hill.Could be lots fo fun! If you haven't surfed one of these, you will fall more than you have since being a beginning snowboarder;so being in good shape helps! Stay tuned for dates... photodad2001
They have one about an hour from my house at Bomberang Bay, Kings Island's water park. I rode it when they first put it in 3 years ago. The thing you have to get used to is that the water is moving and you are basically still instead of the other way around. If you're looking for a smooth glassy ride it doesn't exist on a flow board. It still is cheaper than driving to the coast!!! And you can get longer rides... either you wipe out, or they flush you out!!!
willywhit
how cool can it be if they put one on a cruise ship ? http://cruises.about.com/od/royalcaribbeancruiseline/ig/Freedom-of-the-Seas/freedom_of_the_seas014.htm
Steve Prokopiw
But give me a little credit since the "disappointed idealist" in me was exposed by my statement that the flowrider money would have been better spent on more important improvements to the mountain. SEJ
Willy, they put a lot of cool stuff on cruise ships. Bars, casinos, hot tubs, trap shooting, massages, etc. It just costs ten times as much. That part is not cool.
