Pat Donnelly
Oregon Ski Resort Calls for Volunteers to Clean Up the Forest News - Resorts Mount Hood, OR - Calling all outdoor enthusiasts, skiers, snowboarders and anyone else who loves Mt. Hood. On Saturday, July 21, from 9:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., the Mt. Hood Meadows Friends of the Forest Day will take place on the summertime slopes of Mt. Hood Meadows ski area. This family-friendly volunteer activity is co-hosted by the National Forest Foundation and the US Forest Service. Mt. Hood Meadows Friends of the Forest Day is an opportunity for families and individuals to experience their National Forest lands, learn something new, contribute to the well being of public lands that we enjoy year round, all while having a fun and rewarding experience. All ages are welcome; individuals and families with children over 10 will find the day most rewarding. The Mt. Hood Meadows Friends of the Forest Day will have volunteers restoring slope conditions by picking up litter on the slopes of Mt. Hood. Volunteers will hike down the mountain, enjoying the scenery while also giving back to the National Forest. Mt. Hood Meadows is generously providing lunch to all registered volunteers. During lunch, a member from the Crag Rats, the oldest mountain search and rescue organization in the U.S., will give a short talk about their own squad of volunteers and the work they do on Mt. Hood and the surrounding areas. Volunteers should register at www.becomeafriend.org/volunteer or call Sam Haffey with Friends of the Forest at 805-264-2477. Information on what to wear, where to meet and driving directions will be provided to registered volunteers. The National Forest Foundation (NFF) hosts Friends of the Forest Days around the country in partnership with local organizations.
