It's a very important event for italian alpine-riders, because this is really a good signal concerning the hardbooting trend here, but it's also an important meeting for all the "hard" people that would like to join, since there will be a lot of very good things to do with alpine setups: slalom training in prepared tracks, videos, equipments test, workshops concerning teaching / racing / evolution of alpine / etc... The event will be located in Val Senales (Bz - Italy) http://www.valsenales.com/ in the following dates: 16/17/18th of June 2006. Tenths of hardbooters will be there (as we already seen in other wonderful events on this forum, dreaming on their pictures!). timinor
What kind of snow conditions do you have at Val Senales in mid June? Has this been a heavy snow year in the Alps? As I recall, lack of snow was an issue before the Olympics.
RicHard
The lack of snow has been a problem for the west side of the alps. Just to give you some numbers, I had 14 days of carving in the eastern part of the alps and it was snowing for 11 days (GRRRRRRR!). :-) To be serious: the olympics were in the western side where the lack has been very important. On the other side (and in the center of italy), everything has been really good! Think about the fact that now, in april, at 2000m, in the center of italy we have more than 3metres of snow to surf on! :-D In any case, the valsenales glaciery reports today: 180-300cm... (with -15°C)! I think it's enough! :-) Hope to see some of you there! :-)
timinor
So in June, what are the conditions at Val Senales? How many lifts will be operating? How many runs will be open? Are the slopes easy, intermediate or advanced? Is there room to freeride or are the slopes all roped off for gate training? What time do the lifts open and close? RicHard
June should be a good period for the area. There is a cable-car that take you to the ski-area, two chair-lift and two skilift (that's what I know, but I've never been there). 5km of slopes? More? It depends on the snow! At the moment, there's snow til the end of the valley (the winter area)... so... it seems there will not be any problem but... who knows? THe same problem for all the glacieries (last year, in June, Tignes was suffering a lot). Blue and red runs. Regards, Richard.
RicHard
Within sunday, the new www.scorpionracingcenter.com site should be online. It will contain all the info about the "European Alpine Boarders Meeting"... Regards, Richard.
RicHard
Hello everybody! Within about one week, the European Alpine Boarders Meeting will be reality! I'm going in Val Senales (www.valsenales.com) in the middle of next week to stay there for a week: anybody there?! Good prices for the hotel with swimming pool, very close to the lifts... The day before yesterday it was snowing with -8°C! It's winter time! See you (carving) there...
skatha
Just to let curious yanks know-my dad bought a BMW from the factory 2 years ago and spent June and early July touring the Alps. Still lots of snow because of the altitude that year. This season I read of some good dumps-just after the Olympics.... Sound like a good time, I'd be there if I could walk, hadn't just gotten a new job, etc...
Mats
Just back from a skatessession and saw your post about your carvefest! I need snow! And it seems to be a nice place. What´s the nearest airport? Venice? Münich? Anyone driving there? I´ll maybe fly from Stockholm if I find a decent ticket. /M
RicHard
What about the "Trento" airport?! Have you got flights to go there?! It would be about just 120Km far from the resort! :-) The second should be Venice (Mestre) but... more than 300Km... :-( Anyway, I suggest you to choose the "Cristal" hotel http://www.cristalhotel.com/default.asp?sprache=de&seite=home Very close to the lifts, with swimming pool and about 434 euros for "H/B 7 days with 6 days of Ski-Pass included". ;-)
Mats
Hi Richard, I would have loved to come to your session but Milan is the only airport with affordable direct flights ( I wont lose my gear) and then I have 4 hours drive plus rental costs. I´ll pass. Good luck and nice turns to you all. Mats
