was gonna reply then realized this thead is from last year.
-
^^was that you riding at Vernon early Sunday morning? I was there but on a FS board and soft boots, was kicking myself for not bringing my Alpine board, conditions were that good. With this snow, will definitely ride Creek sometime this week.
-
Tues. Feb.12, planning on being at Vernon peak in the AM. hopefully there's still snow left after all this rain.
-
I'll be up there first thing Sunday morning. Hoping for groomed corduroy. ....
-
up for a fellow Creek rider. I'm up there every weekend, although not on hard boots all the time.
-
rode there last Sunday midday. pretty good snow conditions, although wished they weren't blowing snow on open trails. Great Northern and Zero G were good, not a lot of people. Did a few runs down Horizon, not the best spot with the crowd, although must admit it was fun using slow movers as moving slalom gates
Also if they ever fully groomed Granite, my opinion it's the best carving trail on the mountain. Hope to see some fellow carvers out there.
-
i started off late morning on the right side of the mountain (as you're looking at it), did a few runs on Rocket, as it was fairly open and led to a nice open area on the bottom, perfect for carving wide turns. then went to the other side early in the afternoon, but got too packed so spent a good hour or two on Pocono Raceway, practicing my carving turns.
Also those kids on the Camelback snowboard racing team were amazing, I caught a few glimpses of them carving turns, the youngest must've been only 10 but they ripped!
-
will be there tomorrow, hope to see some other carvers out there. if anyone wants to ride up, post a meet up time and location.
-
this thread is 6 yrs old but still relevant. this is why I rarely ever take my Alpine board at MC, just way to crowded on the weekends. esp. on Upper and Lower Horizon on Vernon. I think it also has to do with the way the trails are configured, too many sharp turns forcing everyone to bottleneck at the turns. if I do ride Alpine, its usually very early in the morning ( 8AM) before the crowds start coming.
-
anyone planning to ride Camelback Sunday Feb. 26? Might be looking to take advantage of the "Alien" lift ticket plan, since I have a season pass from another resort.
I actually prefer riding alpine at Camelback due to the long wide winding trails.
Also did anyone notice the hardbooter on the front page of skicamelback.com website?
-
saw you ripping down the slopes on Sunday down towards the gondola. was surprised to notice you were in soft boots.
did see a few carvers early last Sunday morning, was kicking myself for not bringing my Alpine board (old Rossignol VAS) then, conditions couldn't be much better then. hope to ride with you guys sometime.
mel
oh and the comments on the MC FB page are hilarious!
-
funny this thread came up.....went on a 2 day trip over the weekend, brought the alpine board, since I was expecting hardpack and ice conditions over the weekend. (Poconos in Pennsylvania). Sat. conditions were exactly what I expected, and my old Rossi VAS performed well, however I did not expect the place to get a half foot dumping of snow overnight into Sunday. I was kicking myself for not bringing my freestyle board with soft bindings. So the only thing to do was suck it up, loosen the clips on the hard boots, shift the weight back, and somehow I made it work.
-
I'm 5' 5" 150 lbs. and I ride a 166 Rossi VAS board (old but works) at Mt. Creek (NJ), I find that its the ideal length for making quick turns around the short narrow crowded trails.
-
great thread:
for me its money (or lack of), too many other expensive hobbies (mountain biking, paintball, conventional snowboarding) and not enough time to do them all.
plus can't see the justification in laying several grand for brand new gear when my 12 yr. old Rossi VAS with the 17 yr. old SP5's only get used several times a season and work perfectly fine.
-
hey Mike, its Mel from ECES. I have a season pass to MC this yr. so I'll be up there quite a bit (though I usually ride a FS board). LMK when you're going, we could prob. meet up.
-
thanks for the review on the Burton Custom V rocker 151, I have the same exact board from the same store coming in today, and I've heard it actually makes a nice carving board, so I'd like some feedback from someone who's actually ridden it that way
-
got your email
-
ya I rode for a couple of hours in hardboots before switching over to a soft setup around 11, conditions just got out of hand.
i think i caught a glimpse of you from the gondola, were you wearing a dark greenish jacket and orange boots?
-
i'll be on Vernon Peak tomorrow trying to get some early runs down Great Northern or Zero G, hopefully the trails have been groomed
-
hey guesswho, this is mel from Belleyare....if you're up for riding this weekend let me know, thinking of going to creek and or camelback. if you can get to north jersey by train, i can pick you up. later...
