  1. A few notes for RWMaron ( take anything Dave* says with a grain of salt)

    ............

    BTS Caveats

-as they allow the boot to flex properly at the pivot and rely on the springs not boot shell deformation for the preload/tension I think boot shell stiffness is much less of an issue with BTS on, ( pulling on my flame retardant suit now:flamethro )

-they lack walk mode, so depending on where you like your cuff angled

prolonged hiking could potentially be a PITA (pain in the $%%) , I like a

fairly vertical cuff setting so not a problem for me.

    Dave*

Does boot tongue deformation count or is that taken out of the equation as well?

  2. maybe ok for a run or two, but "walk" mode is just that - for walking. search the threads in the main forum for the disastrous possibilities of riding in walk mode all the time

speaking, what is the real difference between walk mode and locked mode? I will argue that resistance is all being employed here. I will not break down the elements of the resistance as they are intuitively obvious. Now that begs the question on the BTS. In fact, walk mode is generally recommended for powder riding where you are in a surfing mode as opposed to carving.

WB I always enjoy your posts; you bring a very unique and critical insight to this forum. Ride on bro!

  3. Dennis (salty peaks owner) ......... Just recently, he was selling libtech Banana Hammocks for over 700 ( in his shop, they claimed they where unavalble nation wide and out of stock at LT hence the huge mark up) when the retail is so much less. I went to Lib Tech and got two for 250each 40 minutes later. I like to think he is a nice person who has done some stuff locally for snowboarding. But he is a well known for his outlandish e-bay practices, and sudo scams. and also for price gouging.

    Just my personal experance...

Are you sure Lib Techs are that cheap, $250.00. Even the snowskate from Mervin is a lot more than $250.00 retail. Are you confusing your wholesale pricing and industry connection, in order to to slam Dennis?

I think some clarification is in order here. I am not defending Dennis but nothing is wrong with his pricing in a free market economy, as you have no idea his overhead cost. In addition, he has Milo Sports, down the road, to content with.

Is price gouging unAmerican? I say not, just look at Enron, Exxon-Mobil and you see that price gouging is totally American.

Now on the race plate, did you check the contents before you left his store?

If you did not, then you expect his manager to just believe your word, knowing that there are scamming customers out there including shop lifters. Note that these groups contribute to increased cost of doing business.

  4. One reason I do not buy local if I can avoid it is the damn 9% sales tax here in WA state.. shipping charges if any are small in comparision.

Way to go C5 Golfer. Why pay any tax at all? Of all the taxes paid by Americans, the state tax is the most important because it is more closer to home. Shopping locally, directly affects your local economy without getting into economics and trade deficits or surpluses.

Do you know anyone that works for the state of Washington or does any member of your extended family works for the state? Then, you are not willing to support them. As you know, the state tax is approved by the citizenry and should be paid to support services offered by the state to it citizens.

Hopefully, the move to introduce sales tax to all internet sales in the continental US may change your position. On the other hand, should the Walmart mentality prevails then we are all doomed.

  5. I dont like wide boards, I have enough hard boot boards, This would just be and extra selection for BX

No one really makes a narrow BX board, But Id like to experiment with using a board with soft boots thats narrow than a regular freeride deck

Ha! check out All Boards Sports for a volkl cross 167. They may have the SG cross 169w but may be too much mulla for ya.

  6. Looking at this board width with a 22.5, Im wondering if with riser/palmer plates and some angles, its might work? even though im wearing 12's?

what can anyone tell me about it?

Why soft boot? Still looking around for smoking deals, hey?

That is an all mountain board that has not been made in ages. It is like the Nidecker Proto, Donek Axxess, Prior 4X4, Coiler AM, SG Cult and more fun hardbooted. In soft boots just rock it at high angles.

  8. ....... I had the full range of comments, all polite and friendly. Everything from "is that a monoski" through to "where in the US can I buy a race board - I can't find them anywhere. For this last I pointed the chap here.

Here almost all the boarders sideslip. I saw maybe two who could ride piste well on their soft gear. Duck stance seems to be on the way out.

Hello! Online there is also Hardbooter.com right in UTAH!

Shops; All Boards Sports in Colorado, Starting Gate in Vermont.

Carver's Almanac has more comprehensive list. www.alpinecarving.com

  9. just checked the site...it's the one on the far left (red one) i think it's the 162.

    thanks guys.

i checked the spec on the board...somethin peculiar came up, it has a much shorter running lenght for it's size compared to other boards (131 cm for a 162)...not just that but all the all sigis boards are....anyway, has anybody tried it?

Saw a couple of SG Snowboards (185) at Loveland. One had the Hardbooter.com and All Boards Sports Stickers on it and Hangl plates, I think Jeff Cooper was riding it.

Check with Jeff, the hardbooter guys or the All Boards Sports guys. I think All Boards Sports is an authorized SG Snowboard dealer.

  10. Back in the day when Raichle made thermoliners and Scarpa did not, many folks simply change the liners between the Raichle numbered boots and the Scarpa without any serious problems. The fit may no be perfect in the touring boot but it was much better than the stock.

Fast forward to the present, with Scarpa having the original Raichle thermoflex liners and Deeluxe with a made in China imitation, the situation may have a new twist to it. The made in China variation is less quality and lower performance than the real McCoy that Scarpa now have. Note Scarpa took over the manufacturing slot vacated by Deeluxe. So, for the extra $50.00 in price the Scarpa replacement thermoflex liner is a much better deal.

Now, depending on your riding and touring styles, you may save yourself $200.00 by remolding your Scarpa liner in your Raichle boots and transfering the liner back and forth, a pain in the a##.

Generally, most riders, particularly racers, are in boots at least one size too small so the horrow stories you hear (Bordy, etc) are true. On the other hand, most freecarvers who do not race anymore quickly recover the lost sizes and makes liner switching much easier, as boot tightness is much reduced.

In short, try this out first before you shell out $200.00 for the best liner in the business, Scarpa thermoflex liner. Going with the China-made Deeluxe liner is a step back into the dark ages.

  11. Phil:

I am not sure you understand this industry very well. The buyers get wined and dined; they get tons of free gear; they get flown into upscale resorts for board tests with all expenses paid, etc. It is like politics. Please pay attention to the bold texts below.

Burton's marketing is unparalleled. You understand that spending so much money on advertising and building a strong team that does not ride stock boards translates to market share. There are the Burton camp folks and the others. Used to be in the B camp but no more. :p

On the test, I do not doubt what you saw but I got the inside scoop on the test. Funny that Prior was not even asked to participate in that test and just heard because it was taking place in his backyard. I hope you catch that one. We just have to wait for the results.

By the way, the folks at Couloir also had their test and we know what the results has been for the last four years at least for split boards. Interestingly, Burton has finally thrown in the towel and changed to the Voile system and we shall wait for that test results, also. I will bet that the conclusion is that overall Dupraz rock and Prior splits still hold its premier position. :biggthump

  12. How many people are willing to pay the extra cost?

Its sure nice not dealing with wax.I like tuning my own boards after having shop monkeys almost destroy some of my favorite sticks there aren't to many places I trust besides PTC but thats a long way from home.

    Frank

Try Alpine Base and Edge in Boulder CO is much closer 303-887-8762

  13. I'm sure they'd both be good, but although those guys described the various STs under test as "fun", they ended up choosing Khyber/ Malolo boards by the time they were through with the formal test.

As you say " Different strokes for different folks". It's just when I hear a lot of enthusiastic equating of powder with STs, I feel obliged to squeak a tiny bit and to point out that those boards do not appear to be well suited to the sort of powder riding I'm familiar with, which is specifically BC cat and heli terrain.

This time I used the "Future" test as an example, but I've no shortage of those. Hence my recommendation is just to "ride before you buy". Failing that, most people who don't know precisely what they want and why would do better with [depending on terrain] a Khyber/Malolo or Fish for powder riding in the conditions I'm familiar with. This is why those boards are the default "rental" boards at Wiegele's and other places. As it happens they also work excellently for experts.

    Phil:

Rumour has it that the Dupraz was in great demand and the testers were jostling over it.

As for the rental thing, that could be a marketing hype. I would not put it past Burton to donate the boards free and for Wiegeles to make easy rental money! Got the picture! In fact Burton is known for this behaviour. The smaller companies like Prior, Dupraz, Donek cannot afford to give boards away.

You need to see through these things by now my friend. Take a Kyber for a run or the Dupraz.

  14. My new Virus with no wax base is FAST I wish all my boards had it.

I don't know how long it will last or how easy it will be to maintain time will tell.Does anybody know why more companys aren't using it?

    COST

  15. well im waiting to get some new bindings, if youll recall my broken xbones.
