  1. Guys:

You should check out Ride's CAD bindings. They have a platform built into the base that allows for lift and canting. Not trying to flame Burton, but the Rides are definitely much sturdier construction as well and the toe-cap mechanism is excellent.

I rode C60s for a few years...the Rides are far superior.

    Just my 2 cents.

  2. Magne-traction is the real deal. I have been riding a Lib-Tech TRS w/ magne-traction since last year and can attest to its effectiveness, especially on hard-pack/ice. Problem is the board is a bit noodely, especially in the nose, when I get aggressive with it (I weigh 210). It's great for trees, bumps, riding switch and all the other fun stuff, but it's not stiff enough for me to really push hard. The Dark Series is stiffer, but is it that much stiffer?

Here's the real question...when will companies like Donek and Prior, who use superior materials and have better craftsmanship than the mass-producers, start to embrace some of this new thinking/technology in their boards? I would love to see Donek with their own version of magne-traction or a reversed-camber board for freeriding.

  3. Can anyone make a recommendation for a decent pintail that's not going to cost $600 bucks? I am planning a cat trip in March and I definately want to take advantage of the shape for the pow. I know Lib Tech and Rome make decent stuff that's not crazy expensive - does anyone have a take on a Volkl Selecta?

I know you can "size down" on a pintail...what would be a good length for a 205 pounder?

    Thanks,

  4. When he tries to make a turn with an edge change, does he consistently fall in a particular direction? Where in the turn (start, middle, end) does he lose his balance? Does it happen only on one turn (either toeside or heelside), or on both? You mention he is practicing on the bunny hill; is there traffic on the slope or other potential distractions that might affect his learning?

The answers to these questions will likely help identify a more specific and effective course of action with your son. If you've time, please post any additional info you might be able to offer and I'm sure that you'll get even more specific--and helpful--advice to help your son.

    B-2:

He seems to make his turns way too "flat". I have discussed the idea of the falling leaf so he understands the concept of edge usuage and he gets that, but he seems to be starting his turn transitions way too late. There is no use of the fall line and I am not quite sure how to explain to him how the fall line should be used for turn initiation. He seems to consistantly fall forward on his toeside turns and backward on his heelside turns...he doesn't understand the concept of changing his edges.

He also isn't keeping his weight centered over the board and tends to end up on his butt when he looses momentum when he is riding on his heelside, and on his hands alot when looses momentum when he is riding on his toeside.

I am not quite sure how to explain these concepts to him as they seem innate to me...and I am admittedly not a great teacher. Any further advice would be really appreciated.

    Thanks,

  5. My oldest son, who is almost 8, has been riding a few days a year for the last 2 seasons. Initially, I think he would go riding with me because he knows how much his Dad gets into it, but recently, he as asked me (unsolicited) to take him. I think he is starting to catch the bug.

He is able to turn (on his edge) to the right and to the left, but he is having the hardest time linking his turns. We are both getting frustrated that it has not clicked yet. I have tried various ways to explain to him how to turn from one edge to another and have even forked over some $$$ for private lessons, but it is not happening.

Does anyone know of a good methodology to teach linked turns? One of my happiest days will be our first real ride together from top-to-bottom, but right now we are stuck on the bunny hill.

Thanks in advance for any insights...

  6. Guys:

Can anyone recommend a good place to stay (preferably with a spa for the wife) in Park City? No interest in Stein Eriksen Lodge as it is affiliated with Deer Valley.

I am looking to be in Park City during the second week of December if anyone is going to be around.

    Thanks

  7. I ride an Arbor A-Frame or a Palmer Crown with both Catek Freerides or my Burton C 60's with the Palmer Power Plate System. Stance angels 40ish/25ish. As D-Sub said, the key is to make sure you have no toe overhang when you are laying one out.

Without trying to create a huge ****-storm, I can carve almost as hard on these setups, but have MUCH more versatility in the bumps/crud and even pow. I used to ride hard-boots exclusively, but since I figured out a soft set-up that works for me, I haven't had my hard-boots on in 2 years.

    Hope that helps,

  8. I live 20 minutes away. The key is to get a season pass, only about $200 if you catch one of their many deals. That gives you lift access from 8-9 AM while the mountain only opens up to the masses at 9 AM.

That is the only way to do it. I am usually off the hill by 10 AM.
