  1. I don't think it's that difficult, it's just that it's been drafted by lawyers to be appropriately vague. Would be much simpler to just state:

"If you collide with a person who is/was below you in altitude (ie: downhill / down the hill) then you are at fault."

  2. Well if the Aussies weren't done before, losing Drew Mitchell yesterday has them done in. I seriously don't think there is any team that can beat NZ now.

In fact, even if they took a combined best XV from all the other teams and gave them 3 weeks to train together, I still doubt they could beat NZ.

  3. I think only 2 teams have a shot: Australia and the winner of pool A (ie: NZ or France). I actually have $10 on France at $19, but I'm not confident yet. NZ didn't play all that well against Tonga and France didn't play as badly against Japan as their media have made out - they're pessimistic French, after all. So that pool game will pretty much decide the world cup.

SA are playing quite poorly. SA really struggled against Wales, who only have themselves to blame for not winning after missing the penalty in the last 4 minutes and then losing the ball in a static ruck! Wales will make the QF as second in their pool, but that's all.

England aren't doing anything worth writing about. They won't make the semi finals just because they will meet NZ or France in the QF, and I don't think they will put up much opposition. Their pool games are against big teams and I expect they will be monstered; although they will win they will be exhausted by the time the knockouts come around.

My tip for an unexpected qualification is Fiji or Samoa. It is entirely possible that one of these two teams could actually win Pool D, therefore will avoid Australia in the QF round.

  4. I understand the conundrum. My first trip the AUD bought 47 cents! The real estate looked cheap (could have bought in Whistler for about $150k) but I was a poor student too.

Now I'm earning a little bit (currently in SGD) I could maybe afford something but I think I'd be more inclined to buy in CO. Maybe Aspen. But it's hard to justify from this part of the world cos I'd hardly get to use it.

  5. it wasn't brioche it was buttermilk bread but you can use any bread you like and the peanut butter was Skippy creamy, you don't have to use jelly or jam if you don't want to, it's your sandwich make it any way you like it, i'm just giving you a starting point and some ideas so that you can let your creativity and imagination take over

OVR already thought about the powder sugar, that's a good idea and even if you re-groom it you can just sprinkle more powder sugar on top

Only one (very small) issue.....I can't say I've ever seen grooming done across the fall line!

  6. Of course, that would cover up the cool graphic...

next on tap for fin - custom graphic boilerplates to maintain the cool look of our custom designed boards?

No, you've just given me a brainwave. What we need is a transparent Boiler Plate, rather than black carbon or any other alternative design. Just totally see through, without distortion (no pressure here Fin). That way you could see your top sheet design AND it would look like you were riding on air!

Oh yeah, by the way, happy 40th!

  7. I was very glad to have health insurance when I got sick riding in Canada about 10 years ago and had to be flown back to Oz. Between my travel insurance and health insurance, it didn't cost me a cent, even though I was hospitalised in a private room for 8 days.

When Vanessa had our baby, again because of the insurance, we were hardly out of pocket, which is almost unheard of at home.

I agree Michelle, it's not cool to have to effectively subsidise unhealthy people - though in Oz you can actually get rebates for things like gym memberships and other heathy practices - but like car insurance, it's not you as a good driver that usually causes the problem, it's something completely unexpected. And in the case of an avid snowboarder, that something is probably as likely as anything to be an out of control gumby who takes you out mid turn, or a soft patch of snow that you can't possibly know is there (Brian can attest to that!)

Yes, it's costly, but far less than the (unthinkable) alternative.

My dad always taught us - very wisely, I might add - that if you can't afford to insure it, you probably can't afford to own it. That goes for house, car, valuables and, most importantly, your body.

  8. when things got bad I would sit down and eat a nice box of powdered sugar donuts - you know, the kind with the raspberry filling. Yum! And when I finally woke up from the sugar coma, everything would be better. I'm sure there's a way to do that with chocolate....

Um, pray do tell, why do things have to be bad for that to be a good way to spend an afternoon??? ;)

  9. at this moment it looks like i may be going to the D.C. area by january... so for now i'm looking for some temporary work to get me out of this hell hole i'm at. unfortunately i can't afford to just quit or i would have yesterday

thanks for thinking of me to both of you :)

Grrrrrrr, that really sucks. Work is bad enough when you enjoy what you do.

Hope you find something that's more your style (um, isn't Jackson WY a ski town????)

  10. In Australia they discontinued 1 and 2 cent coins. 5 cents is the lowest denomination. There was a case where the guy owed 1 cent on his account, similar to you. They sent numerous letters demanding payment (postage costed circa 40 cents at the time) and then sent it to debt collectors!

Since he didn't have a cheque book, internet banking or the ability to either pay with a 1 cent coin (or receive 4 cents in change)......

......a random guy who heard about it through the newspaper sent him a cheque to pay the amount. The irony was that the cheque was one he had received as a refund for an overpayment from the same bank!
