  1. You won't find much hard boot stuff here. Better to look to Europe or US (though with currency in favour of Stirling against the Euro more than the USD, I'd go for the former).

Thermoflex liners are they key. They made so much difference to my ride comfort it's not funny. And if you have orthotic foot beds, get them put in at the same time.

  2. Vanessa knows quite a lot about this as a physiotherapist, but it's all mumbo jumbo to me. Apparently it depends entirely on individual symptoms (clicking, locking, pain, etc) so she's reluctant to suggest anything either way.

  3. Tabatha, the Moritz is the best value for money accom in Aspen. I've stayed there 5 times (the other time was in the Bomber house, which was a blast) and it's never failed. Walking distance to just about everything you want, including the mountain shuttles.

As for car pooling, I've found that if you can get a second person, it's actually close enough in cost to getting the CME shuttle that the convenience factor tips the balance. And there's free parking outside St Moritz too.

Unfortunately though I won't be availing myself of any of the above this year. But hopefully 2015!

  4. Yes, very welcome! We should talk food sometime! My favorite subject!

    FloBoot, you really should.

I'm a carnivore through and through, but I'll confess, Michelle does love food and CAN cook!

Oh yeah, and did I mention that she's just generally awesome?

  5. Agree with Corey. Another Highlands day would be good but not sure which to take out.

Also Ace's comment is true: the Aspen Brewery was a great location for a social event.

The family question is tricky, but I'm hoping to add to the numbers of kids present in any case. With luck I'll be able to get the 3yo on skis and then share 6 month old duties with Vanessa (unless you want to set up a child mindin facility at the tent???)

  6. I live at 400' above sea level so I'm a prime candidate. I got very mild headaches the first year, but someone suggested drinking LOTS of water and getting 8+ hours of sleep per night. That fixed it for me.

However, I'm still breathing hard while walking through the parking lot, and even worse when riding. You get better as the week goes on as you get used to it. Let's ride together, we can both stop at the side and cheer on the fellow rippers!

I've lived at sea level pretty much every year I've been to SES and that's exactly what I experienced. And nearly all my riding before that had been in Oz, so below 1850 meters.

But as the week wears on, you feel fitter, lungs work better and riding improves. A winner, however you look at it.

In the past I've ridden with a camelback which has helped with the hydration side of things (just make sure it's insulated so the tube doesn't freeze).

  7. I have a '99 Pinot Gris from a local Italian winemaker near home that I think will be polished off soon. But otherwise all my good stuff, including the '98 Penfold's Grange Hermitage, is under lock and key back in Australia and it's just too damned expensive to drink quality wine in Singapore (taxes are a killer).

  8. I can't wait for Jim [Callen] to get home and pipe into this thread. God knows what he's pulling out of the closet for Christmas dinner, although rumor has it a bottle of '85 Krug is involved

Ah, and now the truth comes out as to why there wasn't a snowflake's chance in hell that you were going to say no when he asked!!!
