  1. fdisk /mbr ?

Probably not, since it can boot to the boot manager, which is installed on the C: drive. In fact, if I remember correctly, the boot manager is installed on a 1MB partition and the MBR actually boots to the boot manager. I'll have to look at how I partitioned it.

I started it up a couple of times a few weeks ago because I wanted to clean it up before donating it. It was the first time I had booted it up since about 2002, which was the first I had used it since 1998.

I hooked it up to my router, which has my cable modem connected to it. It was a pretty wild feeling to have broadband access from a 486. :) I even transfered a bunch of files from my 486 to my Mac over Ethernet. I was getting a transfer rate of 33KB/s. I even fired up some of the old games like Heretic and DukeNukem3D.

    Wait, I just thread-jacked didn't I ? Sorry.

  2. OS/2, I liked warp, allot at the time I prefered it to windows......too bad she did not survive!

I had/have OS/2 2.1 . I actually got it (won it on a radio call-in show) a few months before I got my first PC. Liked it much better than Windows too. But if you ever saw the OS/2 ads and followed their strategy, you wouldn't be surprised at all that it died a quick death. And then I discovered Linux.... :)

  3. ... who "needs" a camera in thier phone anyway ?

To report the news silly !

    ( taken from
    )

Professional photographer David Gamble was driving by the scene and witnessed the crash. He also said he saw the driver leaving the scene.

Gamble followed the driver to a nearby apartment building and took video and photographs using his cellphone that he later provided to CTV News and other media outlets.

I agree with you, though. I have a camera in my cell phone, but I've only used it a few times. Two of those times was just to test it and a couple of other times it was to show my parents and relatives who were intrigued by it. I don't have a real need for it. But I did have a need for the phone's other features. I guess there isn't enough crime going on in my neighbourhood. :)

  4. btw, who are the 175 guys running OS/2?

It should be 176, but the boot sector on the C: drive on my 486 seems to be corrupted and I can't boot into OS/2 from the boot manager. :) I'll try the emergency boot diskette.

  5. They've had a heck of a long time to grow - they're not doing it very well. See link in response to TT above.

Ummm, you are joking, right ? The stats in that link appear to count only visitors to those sites that have registered with counter.com. I really don't think that would be more accurate that the stats in the article I referred to, which came as a result of market analysis.

  6. Will do. Thanks for the tip.

Super-cold weather is ideal for riding, providing it's not preceded by warm, nearly-above-freezing weather. :)

The best conditions I've come across here, in fact the best day of riding I've ever had, was when the daytime high was -24C. I practically had the entire resort (Mont Avila) to myself. :) It was like having a private ski resort. It was kind-of funny to see a liftie serving one customer for most of the day (occasionally a couple people from the resort next door would come by and do one run.)

  7. I'm off to Calgary for the weekend ! I booked my first flight using the flight pass. It's as easy as it gets, short of mind reading.

WARNING: if you want to book a flight on aircanada.com using a flight pass, don't book a flight in the normal way or they'll charge your credit card. Go to 'My Flight Passes', select the flight pass, and then click 'Book Flight'.

Anyways, I was able to get direct flights for both directions -- a flight that costs as much as the pass itself. :) Woo Hoo !

BTW, I won't be bringing my snowboarding gear on this trip. I'm just going to check out the town, as part of my "Get Me The F**K Out Of This Dump And Away From These A-Holes" Tour.

Once the weather at the resorts stays well below the freezing point regularly for more than a week, then I'll go riding.

  8. Allee, it too bad the timing isn't right for you.

I'm indeed very lucky. I still can't believe it's happening. I guess that's to make up for all the bad luck I've had these past few years. Hopefully it's not to make up for a bunch of bad luck that will happen in the future. :)

I'll give you a heads up before I head to Banff.

  9. Got my pass ! Now, figure out where to go when. :1luvu: Heck, I can go to Halifax for lunch and then onto Toronto for supper.

This is the closest I've ever come to the jet-setter life, and I'm going to squeeeeeeze all I can out of it.

Actually, I'll be going to Vancouver and Calgary, just to visit, as well as Banff and Fernie for some hopefully epic riding. Now I'm working on the rest of the resort list.

  10. Bartron...I just searched for the lyrics to the Blink182 song you posted...

    :barf:

maybe the music is really good? funny coming from a band that claims to be so punk. I heard they covered a descendents song, too...

edit..just looked that up, too. They cover "Hope" from what I can find. Sublime already owned the cover of that on 40 oz

sorry...not trying to poo on your musical tastes. I have no choice but to hate anything and everything Blink 182 does. It is a matter of principle :)

I don't listen to lyrics and thus I don't care what an artist sings about. I'm pretty much a music-only person, with the exception of Snoop Dogg's songs, Eminem's songs and some other rap/hip-hop songs. :)

And I certainly don't care about style labels. To me it's all music. I don't care what style anyone (including the artists themselves) claim to be, or which bin other people choose to place the band/musicians in.

All that matters is whether I like the music or not. Everything else is an unnecessary complication.

If I like the song, I listen to it. If I don't like the song, then I don't listen to it. Period. Nice and simple. :)

  11. Sounds like a good deal to me. I haven't kept up to date on boot pricing, but I bought my AF600 boots (2001 model) at Sharks in 2002 for $350 or so.

He should have given my a bigger discount to compensate for his pathetic attempt at bootfitting. :AR15firin :)

  12. Bartron....if you're free, just move West! It appears that we'll have quite a nice season this year.

Neuffy, I am free, I want to move out west (actually, I just want to get the hell out of here) and I have already started looking into it. :) I already got a couple of quotes from moving companies.

If I move, it will be after winter. In the meantime, I can take advantage of that crazy Air Canada deal. It will give me a chance to visit the places I'm thinking of moving to. In fact, I can do a Tour Des Rocheuses. :) Each week a different resort. I come back here for the weekends, load up on sandwiches and snacks so I won't have to buy as much food when I'm out there.

The only catch is that I want to go back to school part-time in a year or two and full-time in about 3 years. I want to make sure I'm in the same town that I'll be studying in so I can start taking courses while I work. So right now, I'm choosing the school to apply to. Looks like it will be UBC or McGill.

Not to say that there aren't problems with moving, etc. But if you're chasing snow...well, suffice to say that it appears you don't have any.

Tell me about it ! It will cost me about $3500 (based on 2 quotes I got from moving companies) to move all my stuff to Vancouver and I estimate about $3000 to move it to Calgary. That cost can be declared in my fed income tax as a moving expense and get a deduction from my taxable income. Sweeeeeet.

Right now I'm unemployed, so I'm better off staying here until I find a job. And I don't want to start working until after spring.

(Which sucks....it means our mountains are going to be busy as hell this winter.)

Nah, I don't take up that much space. :)
