  1. Dag, Doug, and I were at opening day at Powderhorn This past Saturday. Only had a 20 inch base and a little icy. They have 7 inches in past couple days so carving should get better. Attached is a pic of Dag and I on lift.post-4242-0-03177500-1419435414_thumb.jp

  2. Another great day carving at Powderhorn with Dag and Doug. 1 inch of new snow over the groom made it chalky sweet! They put some lights for night riding till 9 the last couple nights. Crowds were light and we shredded Wonderbump and Bills.

  3. Some great groom this past weekend at Powderhorn that Doug and I enjoyed. Peter who was on his fourth day on hardboots was awesome! Karl (x hardbooter from Boulder) was doing some incredible turns on his softboot setup. Epic weekend at the Horn! Missed you Flyfast (Dag).

  5. Great last 4 days at Powderhorn. 4 carvers on the hill today shredding up Bills and Peacemaker. Doug, Dag, Mike, and I enjoying the Bluebird Colorado skies and mid 30 degree weather. Almost like spring but with great snow due to the cold nights. Doug is carving the perfect Cs due to his tight turn radius and controlling speed while the rest of us are more S shaped/bombing down the hill. Hoping for some more snow to build up our 44 inch base. Happy New Year from the Horn!

  6. All booked! Starting to plan the ten days between SES and a week in Telluride, knocking around CO and visiting several resorts I've not ridden yet: Keystone, A-Basin, Breck, probably a day at Vail, and perhaps Powderhorn and Sunlight as I have to hit Grand Junction on 2/15. Any recommendations on places to ride (carving, alpine or tele, and softboots)?

There should be three or four of us from Grand Junction that should be at the SES this year. We can meet up at the session and fill you in on Powderhorn (1650 vertical feet only 45 minutes from GJ on the magnificent Grand Mesa). We have 6 runs that are well groomed and that you can carve on - Bills, Maverick, Peacemaker below the lift, Redeye on West end, and sometimes Wonderbump and Lower Equalizer. Sometimes we can get as many as 6 carvers on the mountain but normally 3 or 4 of us.

  7. Powderhorn announced early this week that they are opening up early (December 7th) due to the early snow (SNOTEL shows that the Mesa is 3 to 4 weeks ahead of average snowfall). 13 inches reported in last 48 hours with a 43 inch base. Unbelievable for this time of year! Will be meeting up with Doug on Saturday and Dag on Sunday. Both days expected to highs of 14 degrees (brrrrr). Webcam of the Horn a few minutes ago.

  8. Went to Snowmass with my older daughter this past weekend and shredded up the early snow. Powderhorn is scheduled to open up on December 12th, but with all the early snow (3 weeks ahead of average on SNOTEL) maybe they will open up early. Pic below is from webcam at Powderhorn (over a foot in last 48 hours).

  9. Not in the lift line, but today was the last day on our home mountain, Powderhorn, and as we were carving some turns down a run called Maverick, we stopped by a skier and he asked "ARE YOU GUYS SURFERS CAUSE THATS WHAT YOU GUYS LOOK LIKE YOU ARE DOING". We were surfing the slush today at Powderhorn.

  10. Powderhorn reopened this past weekend after being closed since 3/31 due to all the snow we got the past two weeks (up to a 75 inch base). Dag (Flyfast) and I did some late season carving on Bills and Peacemaker. Photos below of flyfast and GJC. Great last days at Powderhorn. Thanks for reopening and a great season!

  11. Missed you! Let me know next time you're in the 'boat!

Sorry I missed you as well (was with a couple of skiier friends). I did look up in the old Carver's Alamanac where it listed you as the Steamboat ambassador and where it was suggested that Buddy's and High Noon as some of the better carving runs. They were great!!

  12. Beautiful Shot...here in Aspen it is the Skiers and Boarders who Straightline that cause the problem...not the Boots :biggthump

You're right softbootsailer, I didn't mean to imply that it was the boots but that it was a snowboarder who was rocketing straight down right when I was half way into my heelside carve. Although I was downhill of him, he said it was my fault because I wasn't looking for him. As you all know when you start a heelside carve you start rotating & looking uphill (to my left), but he came in from the opposite side (my right) so there was no way I could be looking that direction unless I was demonically possessed (Linda Blair in the Exorcist). Again, I apologize, I look forward to getting some bomber plates to try out my softboot carving skills one of these days, it just may be a while since I just purchased a pair of Deluxxe 700s.

  13. Was up in Steamboat yesterday for my daughter's High School Tennis matches agains Aspen and Steamboat. Got away for a few runs (Best runs were High Noon and Buddy's Run) but was extremely crowded. Almost got hit by some soft booters. I did not see one alpine board. Great Mountain though! Below is a pic on the High Noon run at high noon!

  14. Just got back from Spring Break. Going to Steamboat this weekend to watch my daughter play tennis and may get some carves in. Anybody know any good runs at steamboat. I noticed Dave Winters on Carver Almanac noted some good runs (High Noon, Flintock, etc.). Anyway am sad that Powderhorn is closed for the season, but Maui was great last week. Windsurfing off the North Shore off of Kanaha Beach (where 15 foot tiger sharks have been spotted).
