  1. Hi Jason, I had actually checked in with Magic and they got rid of their hard gear a few years back.

Allee, thanks a bunch for the offer, I really appreciate the thought.

I ended up skiing for two days and had a great time. It took me a few runs to get used to having two planks, but I was carving up a storm by lunch time (same body position as carving on a board). I also managed to get my intuition liners in the rental boots, thereby making them MUCH more comfortable!

I had so much fun that I think I'll be getting a set of ski-heels with my new boots and then look around for some skiis for the odd day...fun!

  2. So I had an epic day today at Sunshine, but later in the afternoon, something felt a bit different with my right boot. After inspection tonight, it looks like I have a crack in the shell just above the heel lip (UPZ boots) grrrrrrr. It's not a complete failure, but definately the start of a crack. I don't have much interest in riding with it tomorrow, so I'm curious as to what you folks think about options.

I've emailed Dan Yoja to see if he's working at Sunshine tomorrow...but I'm curious about my other options. Does anyone know of good boot fitters around Banff or know somewhere nearby that has hardboots for sale?

I'm here for two more days of riding and am pleading for some help/info...

BTW, if anyone has an extra 26.5 UPZ boot and is in Banff/canmore tomorrow....

    Thanks,

    Gord

  3. Planning on making the trip southbound for some turns.

    Thusday - Sunshine

Friday - Sunshine/LL (not sure...anyone have a 2-for-1 pass that they are willing to sell?)

    Sat - LL

Sunday (maybe Sunshine, maybe driving home)

Not sure if I'll be carving or on the Tanker as it depends on the amount of new snow.

    Anyone up for some turns?

  4. Dynastar 3800 163cm board available. All-mountain-ish 24.5cm waist (should be able to handle your foot size) and the tail is stiff enough for me (at ~210lbs) to get some air/spring.

    Let me know for pics.

Price is $175 plus shipping from Canada (board is in great condition).

  5. Greg, these will fit you fine. I'm around the same size with the same "larger leg syndrome" and have tried on the Ripzone pants before, no worries with the size large. Tighter around the waist but not uncomfortable (i.e. not hanging around your ass like a jibber-monkey) and loose through the legs.

If I didn't have a new set of pants from late last year, I'd pick these up in a second. Someone's getting a deal!

  6. I had one board lifted in Ontario...a BX board with lifters and some sexy Flow bindings...not locked while I was changing into shoes (5 mins tops)...grrr still pissed about it!

I usually get some cable from the hardware store and make a cable lock with a pad-lock...looks scarrier than it is, but definately just a deterrent to theft.

  7. I'm personnally a huge fan of soft boots in the powder/moguls and super-busy days. But it is all personal preference. I do think you are doing the right thing though asking questions and getting clarification on the basics before just going out and buying what your local shop tells you.

I have a Dynastar 3800 board (163cm) that has a 24.5cm waist which would be a good do-all board for you to start on. I'm looking to get rid of it to thin the quiver so I could let it go for $175 plus shipping. Email/PM me for pics (the board is in great condition).

Good luck and welcome to the most addictive sport around!

  8. Soft!!!

5-10cm of fresh, lots of wind-swept pow which was a ton of fun whilst riding my softies. Still cold due to the high wind-speed.

We'll be there again early tomorrow morning and it's still snowing, so who knows...definately another day for the tanker and the soft boots, an alpine board (non-AM) would have a tough day.

  9. Heading to Sunshine tomorrow. Plan to hit Divide and Standish in the morning and Goats Eye in the afternoon.

I'll be wearing a red and grey jacket, black helmet and blue coiler (unless there is a miracle of tons of snow tonight...then a tanker and softies).
