  1. Find yourself an Iyengar Yoga studio and start practicing. IYENGAR Yoga. Don't waste your time with other styles. This style has medically proven results with back issues, including herniations.

This is the ONLY way you will solve your problem. In my opinion drugs and/or surgery can both be avoided. l had L5/S1 issues for 20 years before finding this practice. Now, after a few years l am doing whatever l want.

  2. I wore Reactors for 10 years. Now have RC10's. Both fit me well. Never had any heel lift issues in the Burtons. The UPZ's have a bit more width.

I wear a size 11 shoe but a 27 or 27.5 ski boot or snowboard hard boot. Be careful you don't go too big or it won't matter which company's boots you are in. Might be a good idea to try on some if you can... or go to a reputable ski shop where they can help show you your right hard shell size.

Most people go by the rule that if you remove the liner and put your foot inside, you shouldn't be able to fit two fingers behind your heels when your toes are lightly touching the front of the shell.

  3. l wouldn't use a 3 buckle boot.

lf you can get your hands on a pair of Burton Reactor/Wind/Fire boots l'd say do it. Great boots... loved mine.

lf you're just starting out and not 100% sure if you're going to like it there's no reason to spend big cash. That Prior is 21.5cm wide so even with the longish boot sole Burtons are known for you have lots of room. Great board too, by the way!

Of course, the other option is to peruse the Classifieds here and look for something like a used Head/Deeluxe/UPZ.

Can't go wrong with a Burton 4 buckle boot though, especially if they are really well priced.

  4. From everything l have read and in my own experience there is no need to pay attention to the centring arrow on the RC10. l just set the blocks equally distant from each other, centred them on the binding base and rode.

l have size 27 as well and haven't flipped the blocks, however setting the bindings up was a real pain in the ass with the screws covered up by the blocks. Once all the trial and error re: sweet spot search was finished it was a non-issue, though.

  5. Heelside: drive hard with lead leg/knee (master) first then back leg (slave)

Toeside: drive hard with back leg/knee (master) first then front leg (slave)

Considering one's front leg heel and rear leg toe are closest to the narrowest point of the board this makes perfect sense.

  6. Sorry for the late reply. Victoria Viento is THE best place in Tokyo. They even carry Kesslers in stock.

And yeah would be stoked to have a ride session up here! A couple of years ago two other BOLers came up for a week... TPalka and Mats. They spent most of their holiday chin deep in powder at Niseko and then we hooked up for a day of carving at Rusutsu. Fun times! My Japanese riding buddies are already excited at the possibility of hosting an event.

Bring a powder board too, though. It's barely mid December and it's more than chest deep everywhere but the groomers!

  7. Hiya,

Coming home for Christmas and am wondering if l can avoid bringing 2 pairs of boots with me. I have last year's RC10's and a friend has a set of DIN toe/heel blocks that he isn't using. Can I confidently ski as hard as I want with them? How do the boots fare as ski boots?

Plan on doing a lot of skiing AND snowboarding while I am home so if necessary I'll carry 2 pairs of boots. Would be nice if I don't have to, though...

  8. I haven't watched her do up the boots but l will definitely note which notch she uses next ride. So the key here is to barely have them done up? She does have really strong legs/calves so it isn't a power thing. She skis like a demon in Lange boots which aren't known for being soft. The original liner is in there now however l may look at those thermoflex/intuition liners to remove the stiff liner tongue from the equation. Good tip... thank you!

  9. My wife is in a newish pair of UPZ RC10's... the cream coloured ones. The red tongues have already been installed but she can't flex the boot as much as would be nice for anything other than gate training or going full out on groomers. l am trying hard to avoid going down the "2 pairs of boots" road as we ski too. There is a limit to our storage space.

Can these things be cut up or ground out somehow to achieve a bit more flex? Bear in mind she's only 5'1" and maybe 48kgs.....

  10. 1993 Sims CON 166. This was one of Mark Fawcett's designs along with the two MFR race boards. Apparently it has a Volkl wood core.

Absolutely wicked snowboard!! 27cm nose, 20.7cm waist and 25cm tail. Great allrounder... LOVE this thing :D Just found another one on the local auction site and will tuck it away until mine finally gives up the ghost.

  11. OK gotcha...

No need for exact measurements. lf that works for you then it's all good. l tried using my old stance l had with the Burton boots and my legs felt totally blocked in the UPZ's. lt may be due to being... or feeling... like there is more natural forward lean in the boot than my old Reactors. After l spread my feet and added the bigger cant everything improved.

l suppose it could be an interesting experiment to remove the cant altogether and bring my legs closer together. l'd get more flex out of the board, too.

  12. Set the boots up for center of the board-not center of the boot. I feel that my stance in a little closer that in past. I am 6'2' and my stance is 17.5". This past Saturday I was laying down the most extreme carves I have ever done. I know the set up with these boots can be frustrating-but there is hope.

    ??????????

Dude my wife is 5'1" and her stance is 17" l am 5'10" and my stance is 20.5". You may want to look at that again. l just changed my stance this season by adding almost an inch and more rear cant and it is much better. Pay no attention whatsoever to the center marking on the boot. Center the binding on the board and center the toe/heel blocks on the binding and forget about whether or not the boot center mark lines up.
