Once you try riding with music, you realize how incredibly loud everything is when actually moving. Wind, skidding, lifts, etc. If I have music loud enough to clearly hear all parts of it when riding, it's quite loud once stopped.

i.e. it's possible to have music at a very low level and still hear 99% of everything around you. I have conversations with people on the chair without adjusting my volume. The safety concern is like saying that you don't drive a car because someone once drove at 200 and died when something went wrong. Adjust volume to suit your needs.

My choices? Paint The Town Red is a fun modern song for me right now. Boogie Belgique if I'm feeling mellow. Wax Tailor is fun too.

Interesting tunes! I just added some Wax Tailor to the list. Sounds like Big Audio Dynamite meets De La Soul with a sprinkle of Beastie Boys?! 🙂

I always ride with music and look for songs with similar rhythms and typically guitar rock/blues. I listen to a broad range of music but only if it fits the cyclical cadence/motion of the carve. I like to establish a rhythm and I use the music to that end.

But taste in music is like a nose, everyone’s different.

    Santana,

    Gary Moore,

    Joe Cocker

    Earth Wind & Fire

    How loud? Depends.

ELO for the blue bird days!

    Good ones! Thank you

@Corey  I love music enough to want to properly hear it, not have it in the background. Different folks...

Now, for those who do like to have music as they ride, apologies for the thread diversion.

I'm completely new to the earbuds in the helmet thing. I decided to try it and its pretty cool to have the option. I just flick it on when we drop, flick it off when we pull over. I don't like it too loud so I can hear the skidders and the swarm of bees on skis closing in on me before I can get another toe side head check in.

Well, that was an epic closing day.  It was cold most of yesterday and thru the night so the new snow held up with minimal thaw-freeze.  Sunday morning at open was sunny with temps around 20 in the village and mid-teens up top.  Dane and I got excellent runs down Jack's and Ridge.  B-Chute was a little soft.  A couple of runs were made down Upper K during the day.  Lower K was a little variable depending on the elevation and time.  Cathedral had good carving from top to bottom and the wide-groomed middle was again a playground of good grip.

Around noon a bunch of us went to see Kram at the infernal T-Bar.   I fell off once and had to start over.  Who designs those things?  It looks like a huge crazy upside-down IUD.  The trail down was mostly slush there because it was in constant sun.

Good times and a great season.  I think I got 79 or 80 days.

my sd card crapped out .. Imma ab out to cry...

Sunday was wet and horrible.  It started ok with thick overcast but as soon as the bell rang at 8:50 rain started to fall in the village.  I had first chair on the Quad and it turned to snow up high.  Snow at the top of the Quad was firm but everything below that was progressively softer and turning into sticky, grabby, vacu-suck mush.  Lower K and Cathedral were too slow and mushy.  Depending on the elevation either wet snow or rain was falling with high winds.  My clothes were soaked in no time and vis was poor.  I decided that making it down the cat track from Stella would be impossible and I somehow made it to the Triple and skidded down Pend Oreille to escape and go home.

It was hideous. I got on the quad at around 9:30, stalling for the rain to maybe pass or solidify. Top of quad had icy fast patches then anything with new "snow" on it was like glue on the way to Stiles. The drop was fun and decent but everything below was sticky. 1 run wonder and out.

  5. Saturday morning was decent. Went straight for the T Bar first thing and was greeted by Kram. The slide down to the T Bar was overly firm and sketchy but Little Blue was a dreamy texture and a leg burner for the first run of the day. Kinda perfect. Got a few runs down Cathedral and Zip Down and by 10:30 headed over to lower K which was a slush bucket by then. Back to Stella and everything had turned to slush by 11ish. Did some more Cathedral and Zip Down laps practicing switch, then over to the Colburn Triple to get outta there. Vagabond was so slow and slushy I barely made it to the triple. Told the lifty it was safe to take the "slow" sign down. A Ponderay run, then Stiles to finish the day. Super fun morning and an exhausting slush slinging afternoon. Gone at 2. No camera freedom day!
