THIS IS NOT AN AD!
Plan to spend whole winter in summit county snowboarding this year (just like last year), but the rental market is going CRAZY right now. I am so desperate to find a place to stay in the mountains
Anyone has advice or a room to rent? I am honestly open to any option right now.......

Still a newbie to racing board/hardboot (my 2nd year). Always want to participate in Alpine racing and hit those gates, but couldn't find any snowboard racing training program for adults throughout the season. Any advice? Thx

I was emailing the bomber website to ask about if by any chance I can visit their shop to try different spring options before purchasing. It was surprised to me that Walker, who replied to me, is also the owner of Harb Ski systems at Colorado, where I had my hard boots fitting before. I went there yesterday to got my BTS kit installed and boot adjustment. So if you are considering install the BTS kit for your deeluxe boots to gain more flex and you happened to live in Colorado, Walker's shop is definitely the place to go.

The BTS in my opinion are the best performance gain for the buck.
I rode red springs but a lot of people mix them for different rates of flex. Blues seem pretty popular also. You might want to get a blue and red set and start experimenting.
Does bomber associate with any store that I can visit to try those different spring combination? Thx

You can really adjust the flex then.
will try that also, thx

Hey Felix,
I too have 425 Pro's and wanted to soften them up.......So Yes that is what you need and really about your only option unless you find an older style Deluxe SB to just pull a softer tongue from.......but I have looked and the$49 black tongue is the cheapest way out.
As comparison I have a pair of Track 325's with this exact black tongue and flexing both 325 and 425 tongues the 325's black tongue flexes much easier even though on rated 62 below the 425's 70+
great to know, Barry! What a relief to me and my legs,LOL. Thx!

I have had enough with my Deeluxe Track 425 pro bc its stiffest race tongue (stiffness 70+ according to Deeluxe) even though I just rode it for 5 days. I just searched the alternative tongue option and found an official product (stiffness 62) as below. Not sure if it will fix the the problem of the boots, any one tried it before?
PS: I definitely understand that UPZ will be the better option, I didnt have the budget to get a new boots without selling the Deeluxe 425

Hi Briana,
welcome to the alpine snowboard world.
Actually I am also a beginner on alpine snowboard, start from this season. Just as all the previous comments, boots is the 1st priority and I had painful experience about it. I accidentally chose the Deeluxe 425 pro as my 1st hard boot, even though Sean suggested me the other options, I thought the stiffer boot would last longer without thinking about the comfort of my feet (big regret!). It was way too stiff that I even posted a thread to ask about how to initial toe side turn with it ( I was pretty good on toe side with soft boot). My personal experience is to go with a more flex boots and got it boot fitted with an expert. Good luck and you will feel in love with carving on those beasts!

@FelixDDarn you just missed us by about 49 weeks. You are a regular Breck rider right? I'd be happy to take some laps with you at Vail for Beaver Creek if you want to come over this way. I'm usually off mid-week to ride.
Awesome! Let me know your plan start from next week. Thanks!

if you want to crave on hard boot need to get up early for best condition, by afternoon we will at the log and relax due to the condition.

Yes, front boot in walk mode, rear boot with the knob turned 90deg (which gives free forward flex, but limits how far upright it can go).
The Deeluxe forward lean mechanism fully locks the boot, which most people consider (far) too stiff. Therefore most replace the it with a spring mechanism, like Bomber's BTS.
Thx so much! can't wait to try the new setting!

I assume it refers to the forward lean setting on the deeluxe.
Felix, do not set it in the most upright position. Not straighter up than the middle setting. You can also try walk mode(which I use myself). Some will argue that walk mode can be dangerous for your ankles, I disagree, the forward lean mechanism limits forward lean to the most forward fixed setting, also in walk mode.
Does that mean you are using walk mode all the time even riding? I did feel that forward lean mechanism of Deeluxe 425 limited my forward movement. Thank you

55/50 is what I meant by high. Anything over 45 will let your boots operate well.
Will try to practice on pushing back knees into snow. thx

By angles we mean -
0 degrees = long axis of the binding is perpendicular to the long axis of the board.
90 degrees = the long axis of binding and board are exactly aligned.Typically in hard boots, the front binding will be about 5 degrees higher angled than the rear, e.g. 50 degrees front compared to 45 degrees rear.
Typically binding angle will range between 40 degrees to 70 degrees, generally such that the rear boot heel and toe do not protrude outside of the profile of the snowboard.Thx!
5 hours ago, Aracan said:This may also vary quite a bit. The Pure Boarding crowd favor a lot more splay (= difference in angle between front and rear bindings) - at least 20°.
Also, you do not need to exert pressure on both tongues. For the toeside turn, focus on the rear shin. When done right, your rear knee will touch the snow in a toeside turn (and not even a very fast turn).
If you feel you cannot bend your knees (especially the rear one) enough, you can try the setting the front binding to a higher angle.
Thx
16 minutes ago, Neil Gendzwill said:I don’t understand what you meant by full straight. I asked about your binding angles to find out if you had a hard boot setup where both feet are angled forward strongly, or whether you were using hard boots at similar angles to soft boots. If you have high forward angles, thinking about pressuring the shin isn’t helpful. That’s because we’re using both the side and the front of the boot. Also it’s hard to use ankle action as a beginner.
Instead on a toeside turn, just think about trying to push your back knee into the snow. That generally gets things moving in the right direction.
Yep, my binding angle is 55/50, may need to think about changing it to a high degree. Also, thx for the advice about push the back knee into the snow in toe side.

Hi
2 days ago tried my hard boot and free carve board for the 1st time ever, it is totally different from the soft boot set I used to ride!!!!
The question I have right now is that I am suffering on the toe side since it is extremely hard for me to press on the tongue of boots, so that I can barely felt the toe side of the board (was following the technical documents to practice). Any recommendation? Thank you

Felix, Sunday’s are the main riding day of the LCI. We meet at the Chet’s Dream lift at 830. We will then decide which runs will be decimated.
Lift ticket discounts can be attained by getting a buddy pass from one of us. I also think you don’t need to buy online if getting a buddy pass. I think it’s $71 but call and ask to be certain of those last two points.
Hope to see you join us one Sunday soon.
inkThanks Ink

Choice of snow pants for hardbooters
in Carving Central
Posted
Hi Folks, what brand/model of snow pants you choose when you ride with hardboot setting? I do see most of the pro players choose the snow pants short enough only to reach to their ankles so it is easier for them to adjust buckles and strap faster.Thx
