  1. I knew it!!!! My memory is pretty good for an old lady! hahahahaha..... we did our annual NICE trip a few weeks ago. Was changed to January and the weather was awesome! check out the pics on the Idaho board....

I wanted to let you know that the Donek Axxess proved to be a bit to much of a board for me. I had fun riding in when the conditions were perfect, but other than that it was tough! Also wanted to let you know that it was passed on to a more than capable rider and it has already become his go to board! So, that big ole green Donek (ok, big to me, maybe not for everyone else!) is seeing a lot of on snow time this year!!!!!

Glad to know its still making the rounds. So what are you riding these days?

    >>Are you the Chris who came out to Schweitzer a few years ago for the first NICE?

Yup. One in the same. Last year was Tamarack and Brundage, this year is BigSky. I'm trying not to go a resort I've already been to, atleast for the next few years. Tell everyone at NICE I said hello.

Thanks for the info. Good to know about combo tickets. I'm staying slopeside at BigSky so I'll probably spend most of my time there. Sorry I missed SKES, if you decide to start it again, please post the dates well in advance and I'll see if I can make it. The hot tub looked very inviting.

  3. Thanks much for the feedback.

Excellent point about the combo ticket. I currently have a Tanker 182 and Coiler VSR packed. I think that should cover things well.

I also have reservations for a snowmobile tour of Yellowstone on Wednesday. All in all, it should be a good trip.

    Thanks again.

  4. I'm headed to BigSky in February and I see lots of press about BigSky and Moonlight Basin. While Wikipedia has a basic description of the two areas, it doesn't shed too much light on how they are related.

While I'm staying at BigSky, should I plan on spending some time at Moonlight? Is there an advantage to buying a combo ticket (both mtns)? Which mountain has the best carving?

    Thanks in advance.

  5. Hey all,

Just a quick note to let folks know that a few easterners (Chris, Glenn and Kenneth) are headed to Brundage (2/6 thru 2/8) and Tamarack (2/9 and 2/10). Could be more, but we'll need to wait and see.

We are staying with friends (Liz and Stu) in Donnelly, ID. Would like to hear from any carvers who are in the area and could join us for a few runs.

Note we are old and while we don't ride very fast any more, we still think we do. So please plan accordingly.

  6. Hey Brian,

Sorry we missed you after lunch, but we ended up riding the "black bear" trail most of the afternoon and just couldn't pull ourselves away. Feel free to send me an email at "ckostaras AT yahoo.com" and I'll give you Glenn's contact info. It was certainly a pleasure riding wth you and your friend.

    Dan,

Thanks for the kind words. Its always a pleasure to see you. I just got pictures of NICE from Troy and there are some great ones of you and Octavio.

Please note: In the picture about I am standing in a deep hole. I know it's hard to tell, but I am actually much taller than Glenn.

  7. Jack,

I had a GSHP (Ground Source Heat Pump, aka Geothermal) put in a few years ago. It was expensive, but it covers both heating and cooling. Its very quiet and highly efficient. Drop me an email if you'd like to hear details. This system makes a sense in Pennsylvania, it may not make sense in Maine.

  8. Two of us will be flying into Portland to attend OES 2009. I'd like to take a side trip to Mt. St. Helens. Does anyone know of an outfitter/guide service in the area that runs winter hiking day trips? We'll need snow shoes or skis and probably a guide. Any ideas.

It doesn't have to be Mt. St. Helens. A different hiking point of interest between Portland and Bend would also be fine. (Note: I am aware that Mt. St. Helens is somewhat out of the way on the drive between Portland and Bend)

  9. It appears I've hit a snag. I wanted to rent a 4WD/AWD somewhere in Reno and then drive it to Mt Bachelor and return it at Redmond airport near Bend, Or. Unfortunately, none of the rental companies who have offices at both Reno and Redmond (Avis, Budget and Hertz) will let me rent a 4WD/AWD in Reno and return it at Redmond. It looks like they want to keep those vehicles local.

Maybe its time to consider flying into Portland and then driving down to Bend for OES. I guess we could ride at Mt Hood for a few days instead.

    Any other ideas?
