  1. count me in, even though I'm on the west slope, I would love to ride down south this season, or show you guys some fun runs up here, 2 hours south of tahoe @ http://www.bearvalley.com/the-mountain/mountain-info/stats-maps/
  2. Aww man, it is going to be way more than 1 to 2 feet, I'm up here right now listening to 50 mph winds and it is DUMPING!!! 2 feet a day for 5 days=10 feet, shweet!
  3. buying a powder board on the cheap and using your hard-plates would work in a pinch, it is going to be too deep to ride anything narrow for the next 10 days it looks like...I have a Rossi 159 Strato Wide you could barrow if you wanted to meet up in Sac or something? Come ride here if you want the best steeps in the Sierras, we are about as far as Mammoth though, so I'd rent something locally and look for the steepest stuff you can find, the cement isn't forecast to lighten up until next Friday ;')
  4. gonna be insane, seeing as how we get even more than Tahoe, I'm kinda scared...we also get alot less road cleaning down here, LOL. Going to be a fun week, hope the power doesn't go out too much. Got my libtech waxed and quads are bueno...anyone wanna ride bearvalley.com? Empty stashes for days!!!
  5. agreed, that was what I was just thinking, along with the fact that I have no idea who Richards is, LOL!
  6. Dunno bout that, all the best freestyle, and all mountain riders around here are one-edge willys. They have cat like balance and reflexes, but skid through all the groom.
  7. cool post, haven't gotten that tech with my fitting, but after ordering my 700s 2 sizes smaller than regular shoes on the advice of this and other websites it took me 2 shell moldings and liner fittings to get comfy, but now it is better feeling than my softies, which are 10.5 US. weird. One thing, and I know that it can be found somewhere, just clueless as to where on-site... How do I keep my rear heel from lifting? I was thinking of carving something outta foam to pinch down on my Achilles tendon/heel area...thoughts?
  8. wish it was payday, I could use a trip to SLT...I love the NV side of Heavenly, midday groom anyone? I hope they still do that?
  9. Shweeeet, I'm already stacking up my cash, super pumped! Thanks Sean.
  10. and I want another one Sean..that Twombly I got from you is the best thing to happen to me since I started carving! My question is with the drastic change in sidecut design(looks-wise at least), I want something that rides just the same only better...is that what the metal shape will do? Can you make a metal Twombly? I noticed that the waist widths are wider, is that because of the insert over-sizing? I have gotten so used to how grippy the board is, is there really more grip?
  11. a Victim of Super Suck, Sumbawa, Indonesia, Summer of 09'...I have busted tons of em into 2 pieces, and even one into 3, but 5 chips? Heavy wave! Glad I made it to the surface with all my skin ;')
  12. Video is from Spring of 08', slushy on top, ice underneath...still fun. Sorry about the low quality of the video, it was our first try, and the camera doesn't zoom in video mode, so it is kinda hobo style ;') http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZqUkauHMas
  13. Oh, and BTW, I would love to ride with anyone in the Tahoe area...come on down to Bear and I'll show you the goods, or I got wheels and would love to ride a well groomed hill, we have the steep and deep, but lets just say there are a few eyebrows and pot-holes in the grooming here usually, but to my surprise on Wednesday it was PRIMO! Aloha, C.
  14. Hey gang, long time browser and fan of BOL, finally got off my duff and registered so I could say hello. Hello, my name is Chuck, I have 1 day...without snow, and it's killing me, LOL! Just a surfer from Hawaii who moved to the Sierras to ride frozen water 10 years ago, started carving on my 1st year riding in 99/00, cause it was a dry year here in Cali, and I got lucky when my bro Dave loaned me a full Burton pro set-up...So lucky, the board and bindings were 'one of' custom made by Burton for him(167cm with a 17cm waist, and carbon-fiber raceplates). Thanks DT. Instantly hooked by the g-force I bought what my bro was slinging and got a 64 prime and a set of Winds and was so happy...til 05', when I got locked into a turn due to fatigue and going way too fast, I found my leg bent(without breaking???)around a tree. Scared me outta carving for a bit. Needless to say, I was the only guy on my hill with a carving set up, all my buddies are the powder hounds, and have shown me the light cause here at Bear Valley, we get the dumps! Anyways, let's just say there was little support for me getting back into it...until 2007, when a brother of mine moved from Hawaii up here. I get to teach someone to snowboard, my way? Crazy! So, I loaned him my old freeride board and strapped on my old gear and down the hill we went. As a fellow surfer, and adrenaline junkie, I could see in his eyes how bad he wanted on the prime...so I bought a Donek 175, and some Deelux 700s, and loaned him my set up, and we both got a surprise. I loved my new set up so much, it took my riding ten levels up...Gabe saw that and promptly got himself a 171 Donek and some Deeluxs too... So now there a 2 of us hiding down here between Tahoe and Mammoth in the land of little grooming. Loving the question of the day "Is that a snowboard?", and hating the one-edged willys and straight lining 2 plankers. Not personally, just as obstacles... Aloha, and Happy New Year, da Chucklebeast.
  15. I have to agree with beckman, I love my hardshells(deelux 700s) because they translate every move directly to the snow. I also ride with Burton race plates because anything up off of the board feels wrong to me(I grew up surfing on the North Shore) and adds time to response and snow feel. Also Neil makes tons of sense about overloading your boots, with my skinny surfer legs I've had to tighten my BTS blues a couple times a year as my legs get stronger and deliver much more power at the end of the year. Strangely it hasn't been necessary to loosen them this season(I went to Indonesia this summer, so I'm in shape for once, LOL!), and after 6 days of carving, I'm ready to buy the stiffer springs... I ride toes to the nose and drive with my knees and hips and only rotate my upper body when surfing around in the flats.
