Those resorts are on major passes, so many resorts for the low price of ~1K (it's actually a deal, in my opinion). It's why I suggested bringing the price more up to like 2 or 3K.

Ok, so true.  I was thinking day-pass price not season pass price, so essentially they are all "cheap".  All listed are on Ikon or Epic.

More accurately, they, (June etc) are smaller and less popular than their "cool" siblings.

For me, smaller and less popular has paid dividends in less crowds, less attitude.  I would pay more for that, but I don't have to because the masses go to the uber slopes....where I have always assumed the monied people go there based on the autos i see in the lot and the cost of everything besides lift tickets.

I assume no one will avoid me. It's why I prefer resorts with less density... I would prefer worrying about 500 morons at Copper vs 2000

^This.  It just makes sense from a mathematical standpoint.

Getting resorts less dense usually means $$$$.

I find just the opposite: my high the price resorts (Mammoth, Palisades, Alpine, Heavenly, Summit) attract more "accomplish in my own mind" skiers whose skill seems to be measured in mph rather than turns.

My lower cost resorts (June, Snow Valley) have less ridership and bravado.  I've had a pristine carving runs all to myself many times at these places - never at the more expensive.  Maybe it's the more relaxed "it's not a competition" vibe they carry.  The math just works for me there.

  3. Certainly not always, but wealth and a feeling of privilege are often bedfellows. In our society a certain aggressive mindset is often celebrated and rewarded with wealth.

Wisdom requires a measure of humility ... to not feel entitled to "my lane", or think "I just want to take this annoying guy who's in my way."

I've seen many stay back just to watch with respect, rather than "own" the run... Others not so much.

There are a lot of Good Skiers here, that have been Carving for years...it is the People who equate SPEED with being good, who Ski maybe a week a year, who Bomb down the Hill, hands behind their back, Looking Good till they run over you... They are the Problem...and there are more each season it seems, as the Ski industry adds more Quads and increases Traffic on the slopes...

I find those people out especially in the first hour when the groom is the best.  They're long gone by noon when there's a little bit of chop.

  5. When I rode it, Gilmour bias mirrors the natural foot positioning I gravitated to on a skateboard (longboard) and allowed me a more torso chest forward facing stance.

Also boot centering (over the binding) helped my riding balance-wise, and was more difficult to achieve with smaller boots (M26) and the available on-market bindings.

I have some feedback on the heel cleat movement issues...

Thanks for that...  When you say heel cleat movement issues do you mean you feel they go up and down?

I do see the highbacks moving up/down 1/4 to 3/8" up down on a toeside.  I believe @RoroSnow used pipe clamps to keep them in place (eliminating the ability to fold the highback down after use).

May I also ask if you feel the Powerride wings make a difference, and in what way?

Its been nearly a year since the last post and we are heading into sale season.Any updates or comments on the Step-on system?Anybody abandon them? Anyone fall in love? Anymore modifications?

I personally like them a lot (photon/genesis).  Truth, in the 90's I went to hardboots to rid myself of strapping in. Now with these I can ride more mixed conditions/powder with soft boots and no infernal strapping in.  HB's are great, but not in every condition.  in fact I'm riding more soft than I ever have in 30 years.

Downside is that it can be difficult to step-in in powder.

The only other option I would consider is the Nidecker Supermatic - no dedicated boots.  However I like the greater forward lean adjustability of the S/O's.

Tempted. My Photons are softer than I’d like and after riding them I need to size down. If they’re still available next fall I’ll probably snag a pair and ebay the Photons. I found the dual Boas on the Photon better than the mix of speed lace and Boa on the Ion though.

Agreed. I do like the Boa system better than speed lace for ease of adjustment.  Do you think the Powerrides would help the Photons?

Last year, very limited, no longer made, no longer in stock anywhere I can find. It’s inexplicably still in their catalog but I talked to one of their support people about it.

Too late. Ions already gone on Ebay, got 50% of MSRP for a pair of used boots so not too much lost there.  The Photon Wides are a much better fit and not too much softer, at least just wearing them in the shop.

Step-on Ion Wide back in stock at Burton...620 bucks!

I am about the same weight, although taller. I also wanted more flex. After installing the DGSS I found the (black) tongues to be the limiting factor. I exchanged them for the super-soft red ones, happy now.

    Same here...
