  1. You Got Mail! btw, I haven't been up at Snowshoe in a few years. It may take a few minutes to figure out where stuff like ticket windows and such is... supposed to meet a couple others as well at the patrol shack at the top of Cupp at 10:30 I'll post a pic soon as I get a chance so y'all know which fat ole ugly guy is me...
  2. I'm in the midst of planning a day-trip to the shoe this sunday... maybe we can get a few runs in? Marty AKA Petrol
  3. Hey Scott, I'm in the midst of planning a 'day-trip' to Snowshoe this Sunday, Jan 27th. Maybe we can get a few runs in? Marty AKA Petrol
  4. Scott, I live in the westend of Richmond and agree with you on the season pass "value" here locally While Wintergreen & Massanutten are 'only' 2 hrs from my door, both are pitifuly small and at best offer far to 'variable' of snow conditions for me the even consider a seasons pass. BTW, even IF the snow conditions were GREAT, for long enough to justify a seasons pass, I easily tire of simply riding the same very small 'resort'.
  5. I dream of empty lift lines that aren't constantly stopping because some two plank never-evers think they are to good to be stuck on the green runs. I'd love to ride wide, empty, well grommed runs with plenty of vert as well... Sadly, being of humble means, I make the best of what I got locally here in the mid-atlantic, taking full use of the whole run when I can, tightening my line as needed to dodge other folks, bare spots and softbooters who like to stage mid run sit-ins that often dang near close off the whole run... the whole while telling myslef that these challenges sharpen my skills and that one day, I might be able to skip out on work for a 'mid-week' session .... while Dreaming of an actual trip out west

    Burton Alp 169

    Sure can, just as soon as I do a bit of studying to figure out how . . . {EDIT: ok, I took a few PICs, found a thread instructing how to upload... and now can't get my SD Card reader to read my card... and my Cam to USB cable is at work. I'll try to post it up monday Anyway, I also looked through the old sales catalog that I filed away with the reciept and s/n from way back when I bought the board, my first Alpine board... it doesn't 'say' it's "Real" wood, but it sure is perdy... and sentimental}
  7. I tried to use cant plates when I got my first alpine board years and years ago. never did get it to 'feel' right. I tossed 'em aside and just rode. ended up most comfy and riding better with a narrower stance at higher angles.
  8. I'm meeting up with a 'softbootin' friend from OH for some riding... Be nice to see at least one other hardbooter on the slopes. Anybody want to ride?

    Burton Alp 169

    I have a Alp Seven Point Zero that I only rode a few times hanging on the wall. woodgrain topsheet graphics and old plate bindings are to freaking beautiful, I can't seem to let her go...
  10. I wish I could join you. I haven't been to White Tail in at least 10 years...
  11. looks like plenty of good treatment advice has already been posted. For those NOT suffering, (yet?) Prevention, rather than cure, should always be your priority. When I suffered shin splints few years back, I was disappointed at the number of articles that totally neglected any mention of preventative measures. They all talked of treatment and cure, but no one took the time to address the issue of prevention. Aside from the importance of high quality footwear with great arch support, I learned of three preventative measures that have been very effective in helping me avoid them since. 1. a good warm up will Always help to prepare your muscles and tendons for action. Without it, your muscles and tendons will be tight and stiff. 2. Stretching is great for improving athletic performance, preventing sports injury and properly rehabilitating sprain and strain injury. Don't make the mistake of thinking that something as simple as stretching won't be effective. 3. strengthening and conditioning will also help. The exercises can be as simple as drawing each letter of the alphabet with the big toe of each foot in the air when your watching TV, or in a sitting position lower and raise your feet with your heels on the ground, as high and quickly as possible for 60 seconds...
  12. perhaps you could e-mail PICs to me as well? petrol@aol.com
  13. Alpine gear is so rare at the shops around here (and where I ride) that I didn't even know about Metal until this thread...where can I learn more? btw yes, I am unashamedly ignorant
  14. and did I mention I'm an old geezer with retro equipment? 46 yrs and my newest board is an old Burton Amp 6 that I picked up last year at a ski swap. Figured it would be great for traffic and crud but haven't really even got a chance to ride it yet. It was in almost new shape, not surprising considering that the plate bindings were set-up with as wide a duck foot as could be set, offset al the way to the heel edge on front and all the way to the toe edge on the back, lol
  15. pretty much, that's what I'm limited to :(and Until I get this cast off (broken wrist, mtn biking) at the end of the month even those or out for now... I do have a Seven Springs trip planned for SuperBowl Weekend though, a friend who lives in OH and I have met there for SuperBowl riding for the past 7 yrs.
  16. I'm new to the boards, in Richmond, I have an '07 Expy that I love to drive, a full tank of gas and a burning desire to get my first day back out on the snow. :D
