1. I like that next winter I'll be able to just hold down the shutter button for someone's entire turn, get a good sequence, and make a poster out of the "money shot".

Does the 30D have a continuous exposure/focus mode? I haven't been able to find the former. I think the AI Servo mode will do continuous, but I haven't checked that yet.

  2. Jack,

I have a 2.16Ghz Dual Core laptop that I got in Feb. In a nutshell, it f-ing rips.

It blows my dual 1.4Ghz G4 desktop out of the water, smokes my dual 2.0Ghz G5 in anything CPU-intensive, and offers true desktop performance in a 1.0" thick package. It runs SolidWorks faster than my 3.4Ghz P4 desktop, and runs it more stably, too.

If you have any qualms about the performance of the dual core CPUs from Intel, link me to a benchmarking app and I'll post my results.

    Derf and jdgang -

You are both incorrect with regard to applications having to support dual core CPUs. The OS handles everything for this, and the applications don't need any changes at all to take full advantage of them, except for a handful of benchmarking apps which still only address one CPU for certain functions - but that happens because these apps specifically override the standard APIs for this.

  3. we need someone with optical experience followed with stepper motor and mechanism background and familiarity with all type of processes including injection molding, pressure forming to typical machining and sheetmetal.

Hmmm.... My last two jobs were at a toy company designing injection molded parts and at a medical device company designing an optical cell sorter. If I weren't already happy where I am, I'd send you my resume.

  4. I have OS 7 through OS 9. Let me know what you want and I'll put disc images up fri night.

If your friend has a blue & white G3, OS X may not run on it no matter what, depending on how old it is. If it's a beige G3, it just isn't gonna happen without 3rd party hacks.

  5. so when i had it all ready to be heated i was thinking, " how the heck do those guys get 400 degrees". so i just used the grill to get as high temp as possible. only later i realised 400 could be in fahrenheit . (equals ~200 C)

    Oh no! Oops :-)

I just edited the post to make the temp Europe-friendly to prevent someone else from making the same oopsie.

  6. Alternatively, if you're running OSX, you can go to Settings -> Sharing and check off the "Web Sharing" check box.

Also, if you're not on FiOS (or don't think 2Mbit is enough bandwidth), you can always find a cheap webhost like hasweb.com and just leave your files there. I pay $5.83/mo for 4GB of storage there, and they're not even the best deal out there. Sure, it's not enough space to store everything, but it is enough to hold a full iPod Nano worth of music.

  7. Do you mean something to go with cheesecake, or a good recipe for making cheesecake?

    Keep in mind the following:

    1) A girl who falls for cheesecake is either fat or will be soon

    2) A girl who falls for flourless chocolate cake is probably rich, so it doesn't matter if she's fat.

    [ducking]

    :D :D

  8. Before you get mad, know that USASA may have just provided your email addresses to a product distributor or gear vendor who, in turn, sold those emails to someone else, who then sold it to somebody else, and so on.....

Well, I didn't authorize the sharing or sale of my email address, nor have I ever gotten a non-spam non-USASA email to this address, so I'm not really sure why they have started coming in.

I get so much junk snail- and e-mail because I'm a MD. The TSMBE didn't let those condo salesmen know, but somewhere down the line, a harmless distribution turned into a spam magnet

I get ~150 junk emails every day. No snail spam outside of CC offers though.

  9. 2) I would personally not use as much flour, 2 tablespoons will give it just enough body, replace the rest of the flour from the recipe with cocoa powder to really enhance that chocolate punch. Use can use natural or Dutch process cocoa powder.

My only issue with this is that it makes it too close to a flourless chocolate cake, which is also a good panty remover (and it's even easier to make). That's just a personal preference though and nothing really substantial.

I had forgotten about sugaring the dishes - good call on that.

Since the key to this dessert is the molten center, one trick worth trying is to place a piece of frozen dark (>70%) chocolate inside of each immediately before baking. This will help keep the center from cooking through after it's removed from the oven. I did not do this for the ones in the pics.

And to second what Erik said - be gentle! That's the key here. You want to use minimal heat while melting and, once the flour gets involved, the softest gentlest mixing you can. If you work flour too hard, it just turns thick and tough.

And to fine-tune what I said in the original post, when I say to let them cool "a few minutes," I really mean 1 minute, maybe less. You'll need pot holders for this because the dishes will still be near oven-temp when you do it. Waiting longer puts you at risk of cooking the center.

  10. I wonder why so expensive. The new tube version of Focus kit runs at $35k. Add to that engine for $20-30k, $10k suspension and probably $10k XTrack or Hewland sequential transmission and you have brand new BTCC/WTCC car.

Why one would run some old beaten modded car?

Not to mention that for Vette C06 with all ready except perhaps R-compound tires you pay slightly more than 60k.

Ohh I forgot... they doi not sound like that car :D

That's not a modded street car. It's a built-from-the-tube-frame-up rally car that has road car-looking bodywork attached. It has an FIA cage, an FIA fuel cell, etc etc etc. It's a homologation special.

Nevermind the fact that this car is made for dirt, and is faster on dirt than a z06 Vette is on pavement.

  11. you got my panties off!!!!! Now what?

Cover your ears while I :barf:

    :p

Ok, from memory, and remember that these are just guidelines.....

    1) 1 stick of butter

    2) ~4oz chocolate (semi-sweet chips, but a 3oz very dark (>70%) + 1oz milk w/hazelnut might work too)

    3) 1/4 cup heavy cream

    4) some vanilla - maybe 1/4 tsp?

    5) 1/4 cup flour

    6) 2 eggs

    7) 2 egg yolks

    8) 1/4 cup sugar

Combine 1-4 in a sauce pan, mix while melting until smooth. Remove from heat.

    Mix in flour.

Mix 6-8 with a mixer until smooth, thick, and constantly yellow.

Fold the two parts together a bit at a time.

In your dishes of choice (I used 6oz custard dishes), lube them, pour in the goods, preheat oven, bake @ 400ºF (204ºC) for 8-12min. You want to catch them right when the edges begin to set. It'll probably be closer to 8 than 12. Pull it out, cool off a few min, then flip them on to dishes. The big thing is that if you cook them too long or let them sit too long before serving, they will cook all the way through.

I think that's everything. If you make them and they turn out like ****, that's not my fault :-)

  13. Some impressive cars in the parking lot too.

That Escort Cosworth at the end was the real deal, too. Stripped, caged, antilag, 7 speed sequential gearbox, etc etc. Prepped by Vermont Sportscar. It was for sale at the event for a mere $125,000.

I'll see if I can dig up some bumper cam footage with sound tonight.
