  6. Greetings from the Land of Enchantment, New Mexico.

i don't know when / if i'll get to loveland this season -- my one day last year there was a blast -- so again, i offer an open invite to ride down here.   both ski sante fe and taos offer excellent carving, and i know both areas very well at this point.  i get to taos midweek on occasion and sleep in the parking lot (in the Vansion) the night before -- the hardy are welcome.  i also make it to wolf creek  (like last tuesday; no one was there and the groom was quality).

kevin has all my contact info.

    cheers -

  9. 2020 - 2021 update

118" at ski sante fe, so it is in fine shape for carving.  they haven't groomed muerte this season, but they have groomed parachute: fairly steep, fairly narrow, a really terrific line.

rode taos last thursday, mainly off lift 8 next to the west ridge: quality groom, snow just fine, no crowds.  taos is excellent carving, period.

bottom line:  another excellent season, despite the pandemic, despite a bit lower snow numbers.

  10. greetings from new mexico.

i was at taos today, which is known for steeps, bumps, trees, and cliffs.  it also has excellent carving.

i was on lift 8, which heads up right next to the west basin ridge, doing 15 minute laps on excellent groomers.  no lift lines, huge windows.  admittedly, this was a thursday, so i don't know what the weekend is like.

i don't know about accomodations, but you can sleep in the parking lot.  must have been 30 vehicles there, from low rent to custom busses.

    something to think about.

  11. coiler update, day 3.

    first, mario:  bring it on.😎

bruce commented, "weighting is different," and that is the key.  i've been going back and forth with bruce, and these emails have been very helpful.

i was riding it like i do my nirvanas, initiating the turn by pushing on the tongue of my front foot.  that doesn't work (for me).  instead, i initiated the turn by putting the board on edge.  with the 11 sidecut, it moves into the turn easily.

the big difference is what happens next.  instead of keeping the pressure toward the front of the board - again, like on the nirvanas - i feel like my weight is now centered on the board, and even with a little more pressure on the back leg.  the board locks in very solid, which i assume what makes it ride well in variable conditions.  again, i was on a very smooth groom.

i need more time on the board, of course, but now i think i get it.

i hope all this verbiage helps.

  12. December, 2020

The new season has begun.  We need some snow, but Ski Sante Fe has good groomers for carving.  It's not open to the top yet, but they've done a good job with what they have.  Right now they have about half as much snow as this time last year.

  13. February, 2020, year 2 in Albuquerque.

second season, and now i have a gang to ride with.  the folks are mostly on skis, good riders. fun folks, super inclusive. great vibe.

i'm riding mostly ski sante fe and sandia peak.  quality grooming, excellent carving at ssf and very good carving at sandia peak, just not as steep.

will get in a few days at taos of course, just not yet.

anyone coming down to carve just let me know.  i'm carving. you will not believe how good it is.
