  1. Gear ratio for a single should be 2-1 for a fixxie you can go a little higher but you should still stay pretty close to that until you get used to high RPMs

I'll count it tomorrow, but I'm comfortable at cadences of 100 +/- and can manage bursts in the 120 range without dying.

The gearing that I've been set at has been closer to cadence of 60 at 15 mph, I'm guessing. My bike computer's battery died a while back.

I'll take a look at that blog when I get some time.

  2. As I have actually had the form in my hands, and used it, my statement remains. 4852 IS used to correct incorrect w-2 forms, or for those who did not get one.

Right.. I agree to this. That is essentially what I said. If I wanted to use paper, I would have had it in my hands too- Instead I had the PDF on my screen.

I think I must have missed the checkbox for "please return all of my money to me, k thx bye"

  3. Kent, I may have to make a trip out of that, especially after I have my frame & know what else I need to build it up.

Tony, yeah, I've looked around there. With this much difficulty finding a donor bike, it's seeming like I might be buying a frame, in which case you can bet it will have track dropouts.

queequeg, I bet it will feel odd to me too, but I like trying new things & I love projects.

I need to go out and count the gear ratio I'm running on my trek one of these days.

  4. Yeah, here in RI, it looks like a good option to force me to keep pedaling all the time. I've ridden probably around 50 miles this week in a single gear setting on my trek, and i'm liking the simplicity. If I decide that I like having a freewheel, it doesn't take long to change which side of the flipflop hub I use.

  5. ..Especially in the RI/MA/CT area?

Looking for an old steel frame with horizontal dropouts, 56 cm size or thereabouts, 22'' for the older frames sized as such. I'd prefer if it had 700 cc wheels, rather than 27'', but either would do.

Not looking to spend much, but I also don't care if the frames paint is scratched up, so long as it's straight and not rusted. Wheels, etc can be in bad shape, I'm just after a solid frame.

Gotta keep busy for the summer months!

  6. Tony, a shorty wetsuit would take care of you for a surfing fix in the summer. I've got a 9'8'' with your name on it if you want an easy to ride singlefin that works well in local conditions.

    Dingbat,

    email inbound.

    Here's a few more photos

This fish is 5'10'' if I remember right. FAST too.

This is a recent 6'6'' shorty for one of my friends. He isn't exactly lightweight, and I think this will take great care of him.

And another of the same board- Thruster/ Quad options.

Not that too much of it is visible, but the longboard at left in this photo is another of hers, which she made for a trip to indo with a journalism group.

  7. I do a bit of testing & design work with a local shaper- she (yes she) goes to school with me and has been shaping for several years. Her boards are known as "M surfboards"

Most of them are ice 9 blanks, which are derived from sugar cane, and they're glassed using resin research epoxy.

    All are custom shaped, too.

Basic price structure is $300 under 6' to $400 for 8' up to 9'11'' and the expected sort of price scale between.

Prices don't include boxes/fins, and extra-heavy glass is extra too.

If anyone's interested in something for the warmer months ahead, get ahold of me and I will pass on her info to you.

Here's two pics of my favorite board from her- very skatey- she isn't afraid to try a new shape, and it's a lot cheaper than one of bruce's customs!

  8. I have AF600s with Thermoflexes -- think they've only been molded once, but they may have been molded twice. I have about 60 days on them since the last mold (maybe 80 days total) and they're getting a little roomy. Is this liner breakdown, or can I improve things by getting them re-molded?
Re-molding should help you quite a bit.
  9. Rocker may "feel" nice to you, also it in effect wedges the front & rear trucks resulting in more turn per lean angle.

Drop through vs rockered cruiser is dependent on what you want to use it for.

Epoxy and silica sand or tread-tex works, however I usually just use clear grip tape.
