  1. Thanks for the teaching techniques. Probably the best lesson I've ever given. I've got to give some credit to the pupil, but he was linking turns like he'd been doing it for a month or two. The J turns and garland worked perfectly. Thanks again, Carp
  2. Damn, I wish I would've had more notice. I live north of Milwaukee, but would've made the voyage over there to ride with someone new. Too bad you can't race, but free riding is in my opinion more fun. Spoken from someone not very good with gates. I've never ridden at Mt. Lacrosse, but I was in their college conference for track and cross-country and have seen it so I know where it is. Give a little more notice next time.
  3. Thanks for the feedback. Both the j-turns and the garland sound like great techniques. I wish they had those around when I started. I read about the snow on the net for WISO, I was jealous and regretting not going. Next year. One of these days I'm going to pop over to Tyrol. Any days in particular you work or free ride? Have a great winter!
  4. I used to teach about 8 years ago and was using the falling leaf, side slips, etc. to teach the students. Was wondering if there are newer techniques that get a brand new snowboarder (soft booter) up and linking turns the fastest. I was thinking of tandem, however I'll probably have to adjust my binding angles somewhat. Anything out there you instructors could email me for pics, or techniques? Thanks!
  5. I live in Wisconsin which typically isn't much colder than the NE. About 9 years ago, I was up in the U.P. of Michigan and with the cold wind coming off lake Superior the wind chill was -60. It was really cold and there were only 20 people out on the hill which made for great carving. Now I typically don't drink and carve, however on that day I was going in after ever 3-5 runs for a hot tottie. As others have mentioned the key is layering, but not too much that you sweat. Also, no exposed skin...lubing up with vaseline in the spots where the mask, goggles and helmet don't cover is a helpful hint I learned in cross-country where we've been known to run in shorts and a tank top in 5* for nationals...brrr!
  6. I'd like to experiment with this. Is there a way on the TD1's to get toe lift? I've 0* cant in the front and 3* on my rear foot. I typically don't get shin bang, however the toe lift sounds like it might provide more leverage on toe sides and allow the rider to get lower on heelsides. I'm probably missing something all together, but would like to play around with it if possible with my TD's. Thanks!
  7. I just looked on Klugs web page and I'm sure it's a race bail I have. It's all silver though with a black toe piece. It's brand new. I think I only have one. What do you want to pay for it where should I mail it?
  8. I think I have one that's brand new. Do you have a picture of it so I can confirm? It's all metal and I'm sure it's a toe piece.
  9. I typically ski at Sunburst which is about 20-30 minutes north of Milwaukee. Let me know if you want to meet somewhere. I have about 3-4 buddies that would love to ride with someone other than me. I'm trying to move to Denver so if I end up moving I'll let you know. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I had my first interview today. Thursday is number two.:D
