  1. Plates on skis have been around forever. The "new" snowboard plates that everyone is coming out with is really very old technology..... The plate I made a road last season was used on skis just after they started to use a side cut instead of a straight ski. the only thing different with a snowboard is there is no height restriction, YET. Ski plates do need to be alot more compact and low profile to be within the FIS hieght limits. The carbon fiber plate that Atomic had on their skis last year is the pretty much the exact same thing that Kildy made for the 24/7 boards as well as Tinkler made. Snowboarders used that in the '98 olympics. Hangle pates were made for skis long before snowboards to. So there is no question that plates are used on skis and 99.9% of the snowboard plates out there have just been taken from ski companies.

  2. Uh oh..Trappy chimed in! I guess I gotta make some ebay listings tonight!

    Thanks Mike!

I really should move in with my aunt in Steamboat and hang with the SSWSC crew...

we are doing a four day camp here in Steamboat.

Everyone is welcome it is right before usasa nationals too!!!

What do you mean you need to make some ebay listings?

  3. I'm still thinking away about possibilities/ materials for the actual plate.

    Rigid vs. cambered & flexible.

Full bindings vs. just heel and toes pieces

Interested to read others comments and thoughts.

Looks to me like he did ask for opinions....... and I am just trying to same him some time and energy cause I know somethings that just plain wont work. But I am all for him coming up with something completely different that works. Would be awesome.

    Boardski:

I can not share any photos at this time unfortunately. Sorry. But i know many of you have seen it around. ;)

  4. First of all in my opinion I dont think P-Tex for the mounting bracket is the best way to go especially with the cuts in it because I dont think it will be nearly strong enough. If you are trying to make it flex easier with the board then the cuts are on the wrong side of this P-Tex mount. They would need to be on the board side. Also same thing with the 3mm metal hinge, not strong enough. And could you please tell me how you are going to make a free floating plate out of this? I think it is sweet you are experimenting with this. I only have these questions because I spent all last summer making a plate of my own and most of this winter testing it.

  5. Well I cannot disagree more. Do you really think if these boards were so superior, the other manufactures would be not able to do reverse engineering on them?.

It is alot hard to reverse engineer a snowboard than you think it is..... By reverse engineering you can easily find out what the board is comprised of. But then you have a sidecut with multiple radii in them, then you need to get the flex right for each radius in the edge. And after you find all of that out it is still hard to make an O.K. replica without understanding WHY.
