  1. While that is just as cool, to have the Baker banked slalom left up and maintained all season. This is not the Baker or Neil Edgeworth banked slalom. those take place in ungroomed gullies, and are only around for the duration of the event. This would be for any normal ski area, as long as they have 150-250 meters of distance to use on a green/blue slope.

It requires no natural terrain or extra snowmaking on it. Its a normal GS course but you let build up the rut/berm/bank. For example - there will be 10 gates, 25 meters apart, and they will have knee high rut/berm/bank that are smoothed out and shaped as time goes on. every seen the berms in a dualcross mtn bike race, more like that size.

  2. Ace,

Yeah sortof. but trying to make it so you dont have to throw your board on edge to get it around. cool picture by the way. wheres that?

I am thinking more of a real gs course slope, but building up troughs, that are smooth and berm like (25 meters). so you dont have to lay it out to get some direction. Like a snake run corner in a good concrete bowl, such as whistler bowl, but lower walls. all you have to do is put your board in the berm and go with it. no real edging needed.

  3. Hey Rob, I have a pair of these, 9.5 (?) in my garage. a bit beat up. I hacked the heels off at an angle, figured that one out on the 1st day on them. they are blue tops and black bottoms. I do miss a solid shank thick soft boot but with a soft rubber sole. another good solution is to run a step in boot (from a non highback step in binding) in a soft binding, does a similar thing.

  4. An idea has been growing in my head.

GOAL: Expose snowboarders to alpine riding and racing.

WHERE: working with a ski area, ideally at the edge of a park, or going in or out of the park. open to the public.

HOW: Set a gs course, let the berms build up to knee high over a couple of weeks. maintain it as a smooth consistent C shape w/shovels/rakes and slipping (cat cant fit in there). Have a sign at the top that introduces riders about racing (gs, sl, sbx) and let them know how to get involved. how to run the course.

WHY:The advantage is that it doesn't require sharp edges, special equipment or the ability to read a line and is fun and it flows. building a stoke for racing/carving.

CHALLENGES: Ski hill may be shy in keeping something open to public they cant groom/control easily. Maintaining the course regularly.

And maybe Rob Stevens could run it on his noboard :)

here is a link to a bermed GS we did in June a couple years

    What do you think?

  5. I am not looking for liners, just the shells. I have ridden most boots and many different liners out there, and am fairly happy with what I am on. I have surefoot liners, and they work fine for what I do. I am looking for these boots for some women riders. the liner really doesn't replace what the boot does, but I agree it makes a big difference and is critical to the total package.

ps: staying up late as a big northwester storm here at mt. hutt s rolling in to shut down the mtn for the next couple days... (130 kmh winds they say). so no riding tomorrow

and posted the olympic selection criteria yet? Congrats on Mingini, I believe he's training w. You guys

SBX is a strange one, lots of variables, strange to see so many different people (non national team riders particularily) in top 8,

you never see that in alpine it seems

  9. wow. what a thread. we certainly need to harness this passion to build alpine bigger (recreationally and competitively) so the builders have more $ for R & D.

  10. Today was the GS. 1st set was a bit straighter and open (max distance), and ran low 56 for men, 2nd run was a bit tigher and turnier (25-26 m) and ran 1:03

    Mens

Kristin (SSWSC) won the second run and his first Nor Am win today.

Michael Trapp (SSWSC) achieved his first nor am podium today with a 2nd

Darren Gardner (TEAM CSC) achieved his first nor am podium with a 3rd

Cody Ratcliffe (TEAM CSC) won the first run, and finished 4th.

    Womens

Erica (USST, SSWSC) won both runs, and the day.

    Lynn was 2nd. (independent).

Madeline Wiencke (SSWSC), her 3rd Nor Am podium

it was -25 and windy. a real challenging day for sure. The terrain moves like real GS terrain, turny, steep, flat, chicane section.

Today (sunday) was -31 plus wind, so the slalom was cancelled. tough decision for the jury for sure.

  11. Well, it would be good to have a masters session Monday night. I had my baby last weekend, so couldnt make monday night. but Jordan and Ivan were there, not sure who else attended. Depending if its warm enough to ride, we will meet at 6:30 in the east side of the daylodge. oh yeah, check out the facebook group calgary masters snowboard team.
