  1. Hi, I'm getting my first hard boot setup and need more info about bindings. I can't justify spending the $$ for the top-of-the-line Bombers, and the only used options I see for sale are Burton plates which seem to be very inexpensive and not have a great reputation. Is there an in-between option, at around $150? I'm not aggressive and weigh 160lbs so massive strength or durability shouldn't be a big factor. Thanks, Michael
  2. I see these for sale relatively often for not much $. How would they be for a new carver? I'm 160#, been softbooting for 2 years and am getting pretty good at carving on my setup. I'm not very aggressive and spend most of my time on a small east coast mountain (Crotched Mtn) with fair amount of crowds and not-so-wide trails. If they are suitable, what length should I look for? Anything special I should know about them? Michael
  3. Hello, Anyone out there have **big** boots for a new carver? (I am size 13 U.S. which translates to 31 mondo or possibly 30.) Don't want anything too stiff as I am not overly aggressive and would be coming off my soft setup. From what I've read it would be nice if they had a thermoflex liner so I could adjust to my feet.... Thanks, Michael
  4. Look at any good pro surfer video and you'll see them pumping all the time. it's the way they accelerate on the face of the wave and allows them to do manuevers that ordinary mortals can't come close too. A good longboarder will pump occasionally too to pick up speed on the face of the wave. Michael
  5. Bobdea, Thanks for the advice. Maybe try a 35/30 setup or something similar? Michael
  6. Hello everyone, Just got hooked on carving and this is my first post here at the forum! At age 42, this is my second season snowboarding after having skiid a lot in my teens. Once I realized how FUN carving is, it's all I want to do. I swung my bindings forward to 51/42 and have been having a blasts on the green trails. Have got the shoulders/hips aligned to the front of the board, etc. I have decent soft boots (Burton Ruler) and a regular freestyle board (K2 Union). Question: How far can I go on this setup? I'm not very aggressive and only moderately athletic and have been having a blast on even the gentlest slopes. I see videos of super carvers and "want" to do that, but realistically I probably won't have the time or physical skills to get to that level. Plus, where I ride in Southern NH we don't have a lot of wide flat slopes, and there are a fair amount of crowds. Should I put another season under my belt with the current setup? It does seem to carve a nice short-radius turn which is handy around here. Spring for an all-mountain board & keep the soft boots and bindings? Or is there another progression that might work? Suggestions from anyone who has been down this road would be appreciated. Michael
