  1. Great to see another women wanting to join the hardbooters club. :) I'm currently putting together a few days of carving just for the ladies, and would like to extend the invite. See the post "All the ladies in the house". I know that your on the West Coast, but hey if were coming to the East, we'd love to have you join us.

One recommendation I will make about boards. Before you go spend the cash on a board, demo, demo, demo. This will help you get a better feel as to what characteristics you want in a board. I've got a Donek 163 FC1 that I am looking to sell, but again, I would recommend demo'ing other rides before you buy. Good luck to you, and if you ever get out to the East, send me an email, and maybe we can ride together.

  2. "is the role of women important in the progression of this sport??"

"is it at all possible that a rise in the number of visible female hardbooters would further bring hardbooting back to a "more accepted" place in the snowboarding world??"

Yes, of course the role of women is important to the progression of the sport. Just as much as the men, I think! However, when people see a women on the hill riping turns and looking good, they may say to themselves, "well hell, if SHE can do it, so can I". Honestly, at this point, the more people in general that are seen on the mountains riding alpine, will help lead to a constant progression in the sport. Let's face it, alpine is a small niche market. Not sure where everyone else rides, but I've seen many new faces riding alpine over the past few years at Stratton alone, women included. I am asked on a regular basis about my equipment when I'm riding the lifts. I've even had people stop me on the hill to ask what the heck is on my feet! I love it and I get excited telling people about it. I even go as far as telling them where they can rent the equipment to try it! The more people I can touch with this topic the better.:)...just my two cents.

  3. Hi Ladies,

Just got back from yet another weekend of meek snow conditions. I think we all need to do a snow dance!

Ok, so here's the deal. We are going to do this at Stratton. Dates are January 6th, 7th & 8th (thursday - saturday). Sunday the 9th is optional. This way we get 2 days of the hill to ourselves. I am able to secure discounted tickets during these days, which will be $20 per ticket, per day. This is a great deal! I need for everyone that is interested, to send me an email w/your full name and contact info. Please get your info to me as soon as you can.

A few other things worth mentioning:

    - I've got someone who's willing to take lots of video of us riding. If you've always wanted to watch yourself, here's your chance. This is a great way to improve your technique. We'll be able to watch this after each day

    - We may also have 1 or 2 riding clinics being offered during these days. I'm currently in discussion w/a few amazing riders (yes, they are MEN!), that may be able to give us a few hours of their time, along w/some valuable feedback. More details to come...

    - Dinner(s) and bonfire at Cheri's house.

If anyone has questions, please feel free to email me direct at stephanie@casualracing.com. I'm really looking forward to this, and hope to hear from many of you.

  4. Ok ladies, I've only received 3 emails from interested parties. Could it be that you are not really interested? If so, that's cool. The 3 ladies that have responded and myself can get together for a few days of carving. We won't need to use secret passwords and channels to keep the leg humpers away! Although, I'd really love for this to evolve into a little more than that.

There are some suggestions for areas, but other than the deal I know I can get at Stratton, nothing else has been presented. I thought that being able to get a cheap ticket for participants would be nice. Again, if you have input and can find a good deal, please let me know. I'd like to get the details figured out in another week or so. If I don't hear back from you ladies, I'm going to go w/the deal I know I can get at Stratton, plus dinner at Cheri's. Whatever we do, it will be fun:D

    Don't let this die!

  5. Here's a thought:

I've got an in for some very cheap tickets for Stratton in the early part of January (2nd or 3rd week). Prices could be $0-$20 tops per day, per ticket. Thats a real good deal! Stratton is a good carving mountain for all abilities, with great grooming. Definately not the steepest terrain, but it has its challenges. Plus Cheri's offer for dinner would make this a very reasonable couple of days! For all you guys out there that are reading this post (obviously a lot of you!), please note that these discounts will only be given to the ladies in attendance.

Ladies, if you are interested in attending, please send me an email at stephanie@casualracing.com, and include all of your contact information (address, phone, email). I would like to try to get something planned now, while the snow is still not falling!

  6. Just want to comment that this is all still very much up in the air! I'm taking any and all suggestions as to where all us ladies should go. Nothing has been shot down as far as I can see. Here are the suggestions that have been made so far:

    Okemo

    Killington

    Stratton

    Mont St. Anne

    le Massif

    Any other suggestions??

Andrea, FYI I think I posted just as you posted your suggestion for Killington. You know I would never shoot you down babe!

  7. Hey alpinegirl, thanks for keeping this post alive. I'm really charged on this idea! For all ladies reading this post, here is some food for thought:

    Would you prefer...

    - midweek

    - friday & saturday

    - sunday & monday

    - one day only

Areas that are good carving hills in VT:

    - okemo

    - stratton

    - killington (not great carving, but centrally located)

Canada is not out of the question at all! Andrea, where would be a good place to carve up there? I too could always use an excuse to go to canada.

Keep your input coming ladies. I really think we could have a blast, and learn along the way.

    :D

  8. I've been checking out this board a bit lately, since the season is upon us and have noticed quite a few new ladies posting up. Maybe you're not new, but just starting to post in this forum. Either way, it is great to see more women joining the carving scene every year.

I'm thinking that we will need to have The 1st annual Women's Expression Session this year (WES'05). Just a fun idea. Maybe, if there is any interest, all us ladies can gather for a day on the hill of carving it up.

I love to ride w/my hubby but I think it would be cool to say "Sorry honey but I'm going to rip it up w/the ladies today!"

    Thought?? Ideas??

  9. I figured since it was brought up I'd throw in my 2 cents. I contacted Warren Miller entertainment about a month and a half ago. Told them that they need to start including more alpine footage since we a growing community, not just in the states but internationally. Gave them the link to BOL, and also informed them about SES '05. I got a response back, which was a little generic, but it was a response basically saying "glad to hear you love the videos", "we'll look into the information you provided", "keep rockin on your alpine board".

Like I said, generic, but they acknowledged my email. I think that would be unreal to have Warren Miller camera crew at SES to film. BIG DREAMS!

  10. Very well said Andrea! What a great event the ECES is. I can't speak for SES, because I haven't been yet. The keyword there is "yet". All I can say is that the many people that I have crossed paths with over my years of riding have just been amazing. Everyone is so nice, and so willing to help out. I wish that Alex and I could have been there for 2 more days, but had a blast the time we were there. Looking forward to next year being even bigger and better. And hey, all the women out there, get your girlfriends out here. It's so great to see more women get involved. Guys, get your wifes/girlfriends out there with you. This way you won't have to worry about what she might say when you come home with that new board. You can tell her it's for her!

A huge thanks to everyone that put this year together: Jack, Curt, Ken, Todd, Mike, Shaggy, Fin, Sean, Bob and everyone else (sorry if I've left anyone out). You guys all rock!!
