  1. i had previously been so focused on staying centered that i wasn't continuing to pressure the nose of the board through the turn finish.

Now you have a clear understanding why pressuring the nose is so important in your normal stance. Squeeze the turn with you knees, don't use your upper body to apply the pressure. It's kinda like a graceful dance under the pressure of 3g's.

  2. Ridge top winds will blow from the northwest at 15-25 mph with ridge top temperatures rising to around 20 degrees. Down at 8,000’, the temperatures should rise to near 30. We have mountaintop clouds and light snow showers this morning, but they should burn off later in the day. Temperatures should continue to warm over the next several days and be near freezing on the ridge tops this weekend.

For the extended forecast, this weekend will be very warm with high clouds and strong southerly winds, which should finish off all our nice snow. Then, we have a potentially significant storm for Tuesday and Wednesday with strong southwest winds, warm temprature and snow.

Not looking well for the weekend. Avalanche potential is pretty sizable at the highest ridges and peaks today and tomorrow but will mellow out soon. The snow will be... well... ridable until the next storm.

The UAC forecasts are the most accurate to rely on so lets keep our fingers crossed for snow.

  3. Gasp.....how could someone possibly race at a World Cup level with those wimpy bails!

Imagine how much faster he could be.....

Pretty cool shop project. Snowpro or F2 jerry-rigged to an alum plate and some riders. Looks like a nice set-up...

    K

I imagine the bails were like that for a reason.

Advancements in snowboard technology have to start someplace.

  4. Oh my gosh the is the best thread. Almost everyone is saying what they would do, refuses to back down (pride won't allow it), and with the up most enthusiasm that their personal view on the sport is right.

“She’s 20 years old,” Foley said. “If she got caught up in the moment, she got caught up in the moment. It’s not the end of the world for me. When I saw her go off the jump, I didn’t see anything weird about it. I didn’t go, like, ’Oh, no!’ Especially because Nate and Seth grab method almost every run.

Snowboard cross Olympic Gold winner Seth Wescott said, “the trick she tried is second nature to us. The people who criticize, don't understand the sport at all.” Todd Richards said from the announcers booth that if he were in Lindsey’s boots and had a chance to do “the most stylish trick in snowboarding” he would have probably gone for it too.

I guess all the critics in here just don't understand snowboarding... according to Seth... who Jack knows personally BTW.

Yet every time I strap in for a race, or pick up the clubs, I am fiercly competitive, with myself. I want to ride, or play, to the best of abilities.

You don't need to do that inside of a race or competition. So why do you?

In Team sports, I can hold my head high at the end of the game, win or lose, if I know I left nothing on the field.

That's fine, but why are you in the competition to begin with?

    Quote:

I agree that there are many people who compete for the sole reason of showing how good they are, and I believe that they miss the true essence of sport.

Or maybe they're just honest about why they like to compete. I think most of us including me like to include other senses of satisfaction, like competing for personal achievement, or just for fun, or for fitness, or whatever. But at the end of the competition, even if only for a fleeting moment, you enjoy the raw sense of pride knowing that the people you beat have to look at you and know that at that moment, you are the superior player. Bonus if there are any spectators.

Not that there's anything wrong with that!

Woah! Now your just getting down on their level. Nice good will ending though.

“I was having fun,” she said. “Snowboarding is fun. I was ahead. I wanted to share my enthusiasm with the crowd. I messed up. Oh well, it happens.”

"I think it's silly for athletes to look at a sport to get better deals and endorsements," Jacobellis said. "They should do it because they enjoy and love it."

You guys... I don't think she is taking this serious enough. :nono:

After biffing on the method air landing, Jacobellis jokingly added "As a freestyler, I bow my head in shame."

Ha! The New York Times took that quote out of context. Pfff.. not suprised, controversy make them money. Does not deserve a quote. Click link

"If she got caught up in the moment, what are you going to do?" Foley said. "And if people think that's a big deal, they still miss the point of snowboarding."

Oh, well okay... if you say so.

To sum the post up, it all comes down to this- beatdeadhorse5.gif Hey Nate, has yours started moving yet? I can't seem to get mine going.

  5. antiperspirant is BAD for you. sweat is a natural function...trying to stop it is like...well...would you stick a cork up your butt?

Why yes, a cork up my butt will stop the excess leakage. Good idea!

If you put antiperspirant all over your body then I would say yes, that is definately bad for your body because you need to sweat. If it's under the arm or on the feet, then at least 90% of my body can still sweat. Also, for some, it would be nice for everyone around them if deodorant or antiperspirant was used.

My feet put out an unbelievable amount of sweat. They saturate the socks and liner and that makes my feet cold when I slow down on a cold day.

Great advice from the omniscient dsub. How do you know all this stuff all time? I like aluminum under my arm pits and on my feet thank you. It keeps me on track with my ten year plan to be admitted into a nursing home for alzheimers.

  6. Hello,

When I said that Miller should step aside , I was really saying that if you go to the games with a "Don't care to finish the race Attitude." Then why bother to compete in the games. I mean no in the olympics is going to give up their postion, unless you get hurt. I just thought it was a stupid comment on his part. But he is who he is.

After all he did very well in yesterday race, however was beaten several times by faster skiers. He is an outstanding skier with great skill of balance. But why use that kind of attitude remarks about yourself. Not professional.

What is being a professional anyway. I mean, are there any rules of conduct that Bode is supposed to adhere to? Could they have taken his comment out of context? Was he tired of microphones shoved is his face with questions that pretty much ask, "Bode, Bode, why did you suck on that run?" We don't know. All we get is a glimse and sound bites.

Ditto, the networks & the sponsors make ****loads of money from the life work of these athletes. I would'nt sell my gold though, to earn one in the ollympics, if that is you're life's pursuit is your resume. The Olympics used to be a very special event(I remember my parents getting up in the middle of the night to watch an event live), now it's a packaged product, for sale by the network pimps.

If there were no big bad money whores, who would fund the race events?

  7. lots of speculation and hearsay.

The athletes are people and can decide to do whatever they wish. If the ones at the top don't have the same values as you, well, thats their choice. And, if they complain about sellouts yet still compete; so what.

Some people try hard for goals all their life yet never achieve them; that's life.

  8. But I'm not looking to work a board that is versatile into diff sized arcs.
I'm looking for that board that no matter how hard I push the thing, it stills holds big open arcs, at speed and while on rail.

Well, you've answered your own question: Sidecut.

A board that is stiff doen't necessarly mean it will ride well and the length of the board doesn't imply stability. And, if you find the board that makes the same turn no matter how hard you push it, let me know.

It you want to put all your eggs in one basket, buy a board a retail or have one custom made. Buying used race stock boards in the classified saves money and resells with minimal loss. You can also get an idea of what brand of board you like, produced at a custom level, and then decide if you want to spend the money.

  9. today i was walking back to my car and I got a wiff of what seemed to be a heineken. Oddly enough, it turned out to be my boots. Defintly gotta air them out and some febreeze should do. the viniger thing is a final solution.

If you eat enough garlic it will change that smell in your boots to something else you consume. ;)

  10. The Billy that is married. He can be a brother and treat you like family, make you feel comfortable in no time.

I miss The Canyons too, couldn't afford it this year. The snow is typical Utah best. The backcountry is 5% fluff, super stable and a much better place to be than dodging the holiday crowds today.

  11. If you pressure the nose hard enough, you can get it to turn tighter than that.

If you are switching from a freecarve board at 15m to race stock at 15m for the first time; the stiffness of the board may give you the impression that the sidecut is larger than it really is.

I've watched Billy Bordy rail his Burner on tight runs at The Canyons and cut an arc smaller than others on a 15m radius board.

  12. Geez guys, talk about taking apost and running with it...take a chill pill. I said nothing about being pissed about loss of "National Pride" or implied that the nation was let down - I said I felt (that means it's my opinion) the sponsors would be P.O.'d. Whether it's VISA or whomever, the face time and advertising opportunities from an Olympic Gold would far outstrip any face time Lindsey's getting now.

I think someone said "... somone should step up and take his spot by beating him (Bodie)" ...Ligety beat him, and has a good shot to do it again.

I don't really go for the sob stories about what it took to get there either - you get a chance to do something like compete at that level, in this sport, and you are fortunate...the sacrifices are part of the deal. Maybe if there was less laughing and joking and snowball fights at alpine races, and more focus, we could beat the Europeans a bit more often - after all, we ultimately ARE in it to compete and win.

You freely throw out your opinion, look foreword to hearing others.
