Phil
The Klug site is giving tips for learning to carve. When someone is learning to carve, I believe that rotating is counter productive. To learn to carve it is generally better to learn to tip the board on edge and keep pressure along the length of that edge. Rotation causes uneven pressure along your edge which makes it especially hard to learn to carve. See for yourself. Stand up and rotate to your left and to your right. As you do this, you will find that your ankles are making opposite movements. One is dorsiflexing and the other is plantar-flexing. So you have pressure on your heel of one foot and the toes of the other. If one does this while learning to carve they are more likely to skid.
