hip proectors

Sometimes knowing what's not going to work is helpful: I would stay away from anything that doesn't have a dedicated "hard" plate in it. ANY hip protector without a hard plate, like the ones that are just gel, are not going to be effective (please, if anyone has found one let me know....). I saw a troy lee designs (usually a higher-end brand) hip protector that looked great, and was pricey ($80), but when I physically held them I realized they were just gel padding and wouldn't cut it.

I don't personally own these, but this is the style/type of protection you are looking for: http://www.xsportsprotective.com/dainese-performance-shorts.html.

My advice also translates over to snowboarding.
