willywhit
holy shizzle batman ! Jay, Vermont - March 2, 2008 A bus carrying University of Vermont students rolled over in Jay Sunday Morning. Police say two busses carrying UVM students were traveling along Route 242 and were just a few hundred feet away from the Jay Peak Ski Resort when the lead bus overturned with 22 students on board. "She came around the corner, hit the brakes, lost control of the bus, which subsequently rolled over the in the snow bank," said Vermont State Police Sgt. Larry Smith. Four of the students along with the bus driver, 64 year-old Norma Bessette of Milton, were transported to North Country Hospital in Newport. They were all treated for what police described as very minor injuries. The rest of the students on board went skiing for the day. Police are now trying to figure out what caused the crash. They say road conditions were definitely a factor. Some light snow had fallen overnight so the roads were snow covered. "The bus driver was probably going too fast for the roads. Had she been going slower, we would not have had the accident we had. She was doing 30, and that was probably a little too fast with the equipment on the vehicle and road conditions," said Vermont State Police Sgt. Albert Stringer. While Bessette may face a citation for going too fast, police think maintenance problems with the bus may have been the biggest factor. Their preliminary investigation revealed the tires may not have had enough tread on them. The condition of the brakes is also being looked at. Police say if they determine maintenance problems were the biggest factor, the bus company, Mountain Transit of Milton, could be fined or charged.
