Guest OCD Posted March 22, 2004 Report Share Posted March 22, 2004 I have the opportunity to take a trip to Salt Lake over the Easter weekend and was hoping to get away from the fun but v.slushy conditions in Southern California. Could anybody let me know what the conditions are usually like in the spring. Is it worth the trip is what I would like to know. Any info about resorts would be appreciated too. Thanks, Rich. Even summer conditions are great - here I am skiing at Alta, middle of July: <a href="http://www.wendychao.com/ski/devils_castle'>http://www.wendychao.com/ski/devils_castle" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.wendychao.com/ski/devils_castle'>http://www.wendychao.com/ski/devils_castle/shorts_small.jpg"border="0"></a> After the massive snowfall this past season, the conditions this spring should be awesome. It's usually nice corn or loose granular conditions, sunny all the time, and highs in the 40s and 50s. My brother and I try to make it to the last day at Alta every year (around mid-April). It's a lot of fun - you can see some photos of the event <a href="http://www.wendychao.com/ski/alta'>http://www.wendychao.com/ski/alta" target="_blank">here.</a> Solitude usually closes the same day as Alta, and Snowbird is sometimes open until July 4th. These are my favorite resorts, and have the best snow (in my opinion). But watch out - there may be a an 80-inch base, but there are 90-inch rocks! The Canyons Resort used to have free skiing the last couple of weeks that it's open; I don't know if they still do, but it's great fun (even though you're skiing on dirt sometimes). Just don't use your best skis, or plan to get then stone-ground before next season; and remember to wear sunblock (like SPF 45). Bordy Posted March 22, 2004 Report Share Posted March 22, 2004 Unless it gets cold its going to be slushy, Hard in the morning soft afternoon, You have to chash thye sun or shade depending on what type of snow you want. Bring the lightest weight most waterproof(slushproof) gear you have! As long as it get below 34 or so at night the mornings are bullet proof new england style ice it lots of fun! The long range forcasts are calling for higher than average temperatures so maybe I'll hit the parks when carving is not an option. Rich. Kirk Posted March 23, 2004 Report Share Posted March 23, 2004 Yep, Rode Powder Mtn. today - no powder to be found. Bring a cup and some flavoring and you got yourself a nice slush puppy. Typical spring conditions - still lots of fun! May want to bring something to clean your base with as well.
