I'm replying to an old thread but I was wondering......did anyone ever try their HyArc? I never did see a review of the ride and I plan to give my HyArc a ride this Saturday. Should be fun, but hopefully not painful.

So this afternoon I was snowboarding with my daughter and her friend. I pulled ahead on a run then stopped along the side, dropped to my knees and was getting my camera out to snap some pic's (there were very few people out on the runs today). I all of a sudden hear my daughter yell 'dad', I turn to my right and see a black blurr then 'whack'....a freak'n out of control 13 yr old girl going at high speed smacks into me then all of her gear flies..... I yelled out asking if she was ok, then commented about her high rate of speed and that she needs to stay in control, blah blah blah. I was lucky I had my board behind me and she struck that instead of ramming her ski's in to my back, side or legs.. Lucky in the end, nobody was injured, but that was a close call.

4-corners in Maple Valley is where I hit the most. Found the Pharaoh, Diablo and Barfoot in Selah, WA Goodwill (my hometown).

I have both a Brenter C4 (with foot ski's) and a Geary snowbike with pegs. I just got the Geary so I am still on the learning curve with the pegger bike.

Did you really use poles when riding your Hyarc board? I have a lot of folks who want to give my board a try so I'll be sure to take some video. I'm also breaking in a snowbike, giving that sport a try. Always good to have lots of options....

I stopped by Goodwill again today and they had this old Rad Air 52 board with early Rossignol step in bindings. I try to buy pre 4-hole style boards for my vintage collection so I let this pass for someone else. Interesting design and heavy as heck.

A related video was linked to the one posted here showing a skier and snowboarder collide (both happen to be friends). The boarder took the worse of it by far and I would put a little more fault on this accident to the boarder, but it all appears to have happened so quick, just shows accidents happen.

and off of shopgoodwill.com I was the only bidder on a HyArc. Snagged it for $7.95
and it was for 'local pickup only'. Also found a couple good sets of baseless bindings. I've never tried them before so one of these days, possibly vintage day at Hyak I'll give them a try. The Barfoot was the most expensive at $29 but well worth it. All came with bindings too.

Found this board last night at the local Goodwill. I'm always searching the goodwill stores for vintage snowboards but this is my first race board I've found. Looks like it has never been used.....and cost a grand total of $9.95. I've had a good year at goodwill stores this winter finding some good vintage stuff. Too bad it wasn't longer, but I guess it will fit the wall better (lol).

Yep, I have had photos "Stolen" many times. One of the reasons I often use "Watermarking" . using the content /description from other auctions is also very common. I will tell what really irks me is when someone steals my photos, my verbage and then runs an auction at the same time as mine!! Ebay doesn't get very excited about it either. Just too common. "Hot Linking" is even worse. Not only are they stealing your work / photo but they are stealing your bandwidth. I have turned the table on that more than once. I just change the photo that they have linked to to something less appealing :)
A few years back I had found where someone had linked one of my photo's from a vintage toy site I used to run to a website of theirs so I just substituted a porn pic. Took them a few days to realize what had happened, but I think they got the message.

Great score, and that was a good price. I was searching last year for a Tanker or Doughboy but those long boards are hard to find at decent price. Ended up finally getting a Doughboy last summer and took it to the powder last week..

Wow, I didn't know someone else was trying this 'hinge' concept? Funny thing, I just found me a Hyarc snowboard at Goodwill for $9. Can't wait to test it out on the slopes.

I have a similar Rossi board but mine is all white with the rooster on the bottom. I'd guess it to be around a 1993-95 range because of the 4-hole pattern. It looks like a good rider but you didn't mention the length?

We received a little over a foot over the MLK weekend then last night was hit with 2' and by tomorrow is suppose to be between 2'-3' more. Temps staying in the mid-upper 20's so far. Now I have a lot of shoveling to do, but might hit the slopes with the longboard during my lunch. (working from home because they closed the pass). Hope you all can get a wiff of this storm passing through the PNW. Good to finally get some decent snowfall.

The storms are coming. It has snowed over 3' here at Snoqualmie Pass since Saturday and we are suppose to get another 2 feet by tomorrow. I'm currently snowed in at my place (roads closed). Snow should be hitting the SLC area heavy this week.

I can't believe with talk of early snow conditions Mt Baker was not mentioned anywhere?? Baker has been open since mid Nov and has around 5' of snow so far. Pic below was taken Dec 2.

There are no above average carving runs on white pass, unless your using hyak as a standard. 
I know what the elevation rise is, I was referring to the dbl chair on the west side when I said '500, and that is approximately correct. I also said there's good tree riding. I don't see how it is significantly better then Baker, Stevens or Crystal.Well, when you come out with a statement of saying WP has a vert of 500', and now you say your talking about a double chair on the west? Makes no sense. With that logic I could say "Crystal only has 800' of vertical because I only count the Rainier Express chair".
The initial question was "where to ski close to Tacoma". There are 3 ski areas that are within the driving time asked. Snoqualmie Pass, Crystal Mtn and White Pass. Snoqualmie is the easiest drive, being all multi-lane interstate. Crystal Mtn is closer, but will take about the same amount of time from Tacoma because of slower roads, and White Pass is about an hour further.
If your son is new to the area I would suggest Snoqualmie Pass. There are 4 areas all owned by the same company and depending on experience level he can ride anything from beginner terrain at West to advanced at Alpental for the same ticket. Crystal is nice, but it is almost $60/day which can get a bit expensive and they charge the same for a weekday as they do weekend. White Pass is a personal favorite for many reasons.

It's pretty small, but cheap. Some OK runs for carving on the front, good begineer runs on the back, though really short, about 500'. Good off piste powder in the trees.
You don't have a clue as to what you are talking about. White Pass has a base of 4,500' and top of 6,000' (1,500' vertical). There are great tree runs and easy accessed backcountry and good ski runs throughout the area. White is not the biggest, but it is one of the better ski areas in WA IMO.

Hyac. If you would like to work as an archivist your efforts would be welcome! I can take hours upon hours to confirm just one board some times.
With trying to keep up my own website as well as the lost ski area history sites for WA and OR (which I don't seem to find enough time for) I doubt I'd be able to do it....but it would be fun.

Bryan, I'm sorry man, but those watermarks absolutely ruin your whole site. I know, ebay scams, but I don't think it's worth it.
I would also have to agree..... Many of the photo's on your site are very tough to see with all the letters covering the details of the boards... FWIW
The newer photo's I've noticed are not as bad. Don't take this as a negative, just trying to give input from a visitors point of view.

Nice blue board...... I wish I still had my old boards that I rode (only have one-Gnu Antigravity) but sold them off at the time and thought I was getting a good deal. My Burton Elite 150 sold for $150 back in '94, wish I still had that old indistructable board, though it was a horrible ride on hardpack. I think I got $75 for my Burton AsymAir 6...man I hated that 3-hole design for the bindings. That is one thing I never quite understood about Burton was the 3-hole thing.....
I also have my Burton work boots and outland pants I bought in '93, though I finally bought new boots a couple years ago and ride with cheap bibs instead of the pants........ I'd like to see a more extensive old-school listing of snowboards from around 1980-1993 of multiple brands broke out by the year. If someone else doesn't do somthing like that, maybe I'll take on the task?? (yea, like I have the time)......

Ok, I decided that the HyArc is one of the worst ideas ever to come along for snowboarding. One of the problems I had to deal with was the snow was hard pack and then the other was the fact that this ridiculous thing could not hold an edge to save its life. The board will be heading to the wall and will not be seeing any more snow as long as I have it.
