  1. I received the same Husky to Silversn0w suggestion after posting in WTB.  When I reached out to the email, I received a photo of exactly what I was looking for (Apex Allflex mounting hardware), but now no response and the email is disabled. If it was a scam I got lucky, because I would have paid for the item.

  2. Does anyone know if Apex is still in business?  I placed an order in July, was billed and emailed a receipt, as one would expect, and then ....nothing.  No product and no response to multiple emails and phone calls. Just crickets. I know there 's probably SOME delay associated with summer but a little love would be nice.

I use an old school webbing leash (from Intec Titaniums) like this.   Loop end to front binding and clip the other end around the rear binding bail.   Thrown over the shoulder It makes for a hands free board sling when carrying from the parking lot.

I use the same leash and do exactly the same thing.

  4. Not quite. If you look at UPZ chart, you'll see that a size 8 liner corresponds to MP 26.5.

I don't know if UPZ boots are actually larger than the number says, or if the shape is simply better. However, I (and others that I have heard of) can downsize with UPZ, compared to other hardboot brands.

E.g. I had a Deeluxe MP 29, which fit (shell/finger test was also o.k.). With UPZ, I am comfy in a size 10 liner, which corresponds to MP 28.2. The shell also seems shorter than the Deeluxe, though about equally long on the inside.

Thanks Aracan. I'd worn 27.5 boots from 3 other manufacturers and was trying to make the UPZ numbers make sense. Love the boots.

  5. I'm looking at a used pair of UPZ boots and the seller only has this information:

    THE TONGUE IS MARKED 7-9.5

THE UPPER SHELL IS MARKED 8.5-12.5

THE LOWER SHELL IS MARKED 8.5-9.5

ON THE OUTSIDE NEAR THE HEEL THEY ARE MARKED 312 MILLIMETERS

Does anyone know what MP size that would be?

Looking at the sizing chart, http://www.skibootsizingcharts.com, the only way I could make sense of UPZ boot sizing stamps is this. The liner has a size printed on it (7.5, 8, 8.5, etc) which is the Mondo size minus 20cm. The lower shell can accept 3 different liner sizes which are embossed in the plastic toward the front of the heel. I have 27.7 cm feet, I ordered Mondo 27.5 boots from UPZ, the liner says "7.5" and the lower shell says "7/7.5/8" There's no way I could fit a US or even a UK size 7.5 boot. I've had 3 pairs.

It sounds like in Zoltan's case those boots could either be Mondo 28.5, 29.0 or 29.5 depending on the liner. I could of course be completely wrong.

  6. Hi John, It was the front boot that popped out of the binding on about the 10th run. So the inserts, in my case at least, were OK. It was warm in the afternoons so the early morning snow was pretty firm -which was perfect for practicing the technique. I started intentionally, consciously exhaling just prior to heelside turns, really settling into the low stance and then abruptly angulating. It works so well. I'm trying to to gain the discipline where my first reaction to the unexpected is to sink lower and angulate more vs stiffen up, go upright and angulate less. It's working. I also understand what you were saying about how speed helps. Unlike tires with a constant amount of grip, the faster you go, the more g available you have to put weight over the carving edge -the harder you can carve. It's so sweet to take that principle and feel it work. Thanks!

  7. An update on training results. I went to Mammoth last week and finally got to apply what I'd learned.

Setup changes: I put Cateks on the slalom board and the F2s and Donek plate on the Kessler 185. Much better feel for the edge with the Cateks although when cranking the back knee toward centerline for the basic stance it twists the sh*t out of the board.

Day 1; Steady progress all morning on the slalom board. Confidence and aggressiveness building. super fun. so I brought out the Kessler and applied the same techniques. OMG I don't think I was even carving this thing before. It was just insane. Unreal edge hold and an amazing tendency to carry energy through turns. Chop, ruts, bumps who cares. Jus get er up to speed, hunker down and geevum. 18m sidecut needs a lot of real estate. Confidence and aggressiveness building even more. and then....just approaching the fall line, in the about the hardest, fastest turn I've ever done, I'm suddenly sitting on the front binding with my front leg straight out to the side. My initial response was puzzlement ("What the...?") followed by concern ("Hmmm... My front foot is loose. That's not good.") followed immediately by a long, thorough thrashing. A very sore back knee and upper abdomen caused me to call it quits, feeling lucky.

Day 2: Sore and timid i wussed around skidding all day. I did see a guy on an alpine deck carving the crap out of a pretty steep and firm black run, impressive.

Day 3: 800MG of Motrin, an apple fritter and a pot of coffee and I'm good to go. Spent all day on the slalom deck. Funnest carving day of my life. John, your techniques work so well I just can't believe the difference. Still need to work on rotating the hips more and need to tweak the back binding somehow so neutral knee-over-centerline doesnt twist the board so much. I can't wait for "Carving 102."

  8. I had my first training session with John Gilmour yesterday. John is the consummate professional. His excellent, responsive communication made setting up the session easy. We looked at my equipment and setup which John said was good to go as a starting point. On the way up the lift we covered safety topics and clearly defined and agreed upon the the objectives for the training session. Next, he quantified the problem by following me on a 70% effort run. "Your center of mass is moving all over the place usually somewhere other than where it needs to be" he said with a smile. He then demonstrated the proper technique and walked me through the human origami associated with proper body position. Always checking for comprehension, praising and reinforcing correct technique and using a cause and effect dialogue instead of criticism to correct bad technique. Within about half an hour he had me consistenly carving better than I ever have in the past while expending less energy in the process. Simply amazing! Why I waited 8 years to get a lesson is mindbogglingly stupid. Oh and HOLY SH*T -you should see John carve, on a Rossi Judge in soft boots, no less. I can't wait to go again!....

  9. F2s All-Mountain board. Very used. Edges are still good, Base has multiple scratches and gouges from lots of early and late season riding. Nothing heinous just lots of little ones especially near the edges. A good base grind should clean most of them up. Had 1 small core shot that was professionally repaired about 5 years ago. The repair is still fine after 50 or so days of riding on it. $40+ Shipping

F2 Freeecarve bindings. F2's entry-level hardboot bindings, good useable condition. No Cants or Lifts. $40 + Shipping.

  10. I recommend you check out the Ride Board Section for your area and try to hook up with some local hardbooters. The ones I've met around the country have been a phenomenally friendly and helpful bunch and could probably steer you in the right direction. Just a suggestion.

  11. Time to cull the herd a bit.

Volkl 173. Very Used. Bought it 3 years ago from a pro womens racer and used it as my day in day out freecarve board for about 60 days. Edges were thin when I got it and are very thin now. Base has some scratches. Good early/late season board or as a starter. SOLD.

TD1 Standards. 0/3 4X4 disks. Purple bumpers. Allen set screws in the toe clips were replaced with hex bolts because the set screws would poke into the shell of my boots. $100 SHIPPED SOLD

  12. Is anyone out there using UPZ boots and TD1/2/3 or Catek bindings? The 6mm heel bail doesn't seem to fit properly onto the ledge of the boot. The smaller F2, Phiokka Macho and Burton heel bails fit fine. Two possible solutions are grind out some material off the ledge or get the longer DIN sole heels. Any thoughts on alternatives?
